Our verdict on Azure BareMetal Infrastructure
Azure BareMetal Infrastructure provides dedicated physical compute instances for specialized, business-critical workloads that require direct hardware control. It is aimed at organizations running workloads with large memory needs, specialized certification requirements, or close dependencies on Azure networking and management services. Customers receive root access and operating-system control, while Microsoft provisions the physical infrastructure and supporting network and storage environment. The service supports web and API workloads and is particularly suited to Azure-native certified deployments.
Pricing follows a contact-sales model, with Microsoft documenting workload-specific availability and custom consultation rather than a public plan structure. That approach fits organizations whose infrastructure needs require a tailored configuration, but it gives buyers less immediate cost visibility. The platform connects with Azure Virtual Network, Azure ExpressRoute, Azure Portal, and Azure CLI. Azure Portal provides resource visibility and lifecycle operations, while Azure networking and VLAN integration support deployments that need to remain closely connected to broader Azure services. Storage can be shared or dedicated through NFS, iSCSI, or Fibre Channel.
The main technical distinction is dedicated bare-metal compute without a virtualization layer for the hosted workload. Workload-specific certified SKUs and availability-zone support in selected Azure regions add useful alignment for qualified deployments. Customers still retain responsibility for operating-system licensing, application software, backup, and disaster-recovery design, so the service is better suited to teams prepared to manage those areas. Choose Azure BareMetal Infrastructure when certified Azure integration, root control, and dedicated hardware matter more than public pricing simplicity or a fully delegated recovery model.
