Our verdict on Scaleway Elastic Metal

Scaleway Elastic Metal provides dedicated physical servers without a hypervisor, combining bare-metal resources with management through a cloud console, API, CLI, Python SDK, Go SDK, and Terraform. It is designed for teams that need physical infrastructure while still connecting servers to services such as Object Storage, Load Balancers, Managed Databases, Managed Kubernetes, and Private Networks. Servers are available in Amsterdam, Paris, and Warsaw, with Linux or Windows Server installation handled from the console.

The EM-A116X-SSD plan costs €27.99 per server per month before tax and includes 4 CPU cores / 4 threads, 32 GiB RAM, 2 × 1.02 TB SSD, and 500 Mb/s public bandwidth, with a maximum of 1 Gb/s. Elastic Metal also supports hourly or monthly billing, configurable public bandwidth, flexible IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, and remote KVM access. The entry plan is a straightforward option for workloads that need dedicated compute and SSD storage, but it does not provide an included server backup feature. Backups are customer-managed through Object Storage, so teams should account for that operational responsibility.

The strongest fit is an API-driven infrastructure workflow: REST APIs, SDKs, CLI tooling, Terraform, and integrations with Scaleway’s cloud services support provisioning and broader application architectures. Private Network connectivity can link Elastic Metal with other services, while server reinstall and operating-system installation are available from the management console. Choose Elastic Metal when bare-metal performance, automation, and cloud-service integration matter more than a fully managed server experience. Teams seeking a free plan or included server backups should consider an alternative with those capabilities.
