Our verdict on Axibase Time Series Database
Axibase Time Series Database is a specialized system for collecting and analyzing time-series data from IT infrastructure, industrial equipment, and financial markets. It suits teams that want SQL-based monitoring with control over deployment, retention, alerting, visualization, and ingestion. The product supports web access, Linux, APIs, and self-hosted installations, with standalone and enterprise cluster deployment models. Its built-in SQL Console provides SQL querying and analysis, while portals, charts, and visualization components support monitoring workflows.
The free Standalone edition is free of charge and permitted for production use, making it the clearest fit for teams that need a self-hosted time-series database without a paid standalone license. The Scale-out edition adds a cluster-oriented deployment model, but it requires an active support agreement. Its distributed storage options use HBase with HDFS, Amazon EMRFS, or Azure Storage. That makes the scale-out path more suitable for organizations prepared to operate the associated infrastructure and support arrangement than for teams seeking a simple single-node installation.
Axibase also has a broad data-ingestion and integration surface. Data can arrive through CSV bulk import and streaming, REST insertion, Kafka, JDBC, TCP/UDP, and collector-based ingestion, with integrations including AWS, Docker, HTTP, JMX, JSON, SNMP, Socrata, OSISoft PI, Graphite, StatsD, and tcollector. Configurable retention days, series-retention days, persistence filters, scheduled deletion, and a rule engine for streaming analysis and alerting add operational control. Choose ATSD for free SQL monitoring with varied ingestion needs and deployment flexibility; choose an alternative if scale-out must avoid an active support agreement or distributed-storage dependencies.
