Our verdict on AWS IoT SiteWise

AWS IoT SiteWise is a managed industrial IoT service for collecting, modeling, storing, processing, querying, and monitoring equipment data. It suits manufacturers, utilities, process industries, and other organizations tracking equipment across facilities. Its scope covers asset hierarchies, time-series measurements, metrics, transforms, alarms, dashboards, APIs, edge processing, and machine-learning anomaly detection. Deployment options include web, Windows, Linux, API, and self-hosted environments.

The published plans use usage-based pricing rather than conventional subscription tiers. The Data Collection Pack gathers data from OPC-UA, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP sources and transfers it to AWS services. The Data Processing Pack costs $200 per active gateway per month and adds transforms and metrics through SiteWise asset models, plus gateway-based SiteWise Monitor applications. SiteWise Monitor is priced at $10 per active user per month for managed web applications that interact with operational data, although it is no longer available to new customers. There is no free plan. Teams should budget around gateways, active users, and their processing requirements rather than a fixed package price.

Its main advantage is ecosystem fit: integrations include Amazon S3, AWS IoT Core, Amazon Timestream, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon Lookout for Equipment, AWS IoT TwinMaker, and Amazon CloudWatch. The ExecuteQuery API supports SQL-like telemetry queries, while configurable hot, warm, and cold storage tiers help organize time-series data. SiteWise Edge adds local collection and processing, and native machine-learning anomaly detection extends the service beyond basic dashboards. Choose AWS IoT SiteWise when industrial analytics must align closely with AWS services and edge workflows. Consider an alternative if you need a free entry tier, simpler flat pricing, or SiteWise Monitor access as a new customer.
