Our verdict on A-Packets

A-Packets is a web-based analyzer for PCAP and PCAPNG files, aimed at security analysts, network engineers, SOC teams, DFIR practitioners, and consultants. It presents decoded traffic through HTTP session reconstruction, host and service mapping, network flows, wireless artifacts, extracted files, credentials, TLS metadata, and anomaly findings. Its scope suits investigations that need more than packet inspection, particularly when analysts must connect traffic to hosts, content, authentication artifacts, or possible network attacks.

The product’s breadth is its main strength. A-Packets can reconstruct HTTP requests and responses, identify forms and transferred content, map ports and services, inspect SSIDs, access points, probes, and WPA/WPA2 handshakes, and extract images, office files, and payloads. It also includes credential and authentication-artifact detection, DNS failure analysis, TLS/SSL issue analysis, and REST API automation for uploads and scheduled analysis. That combination gives teams several investigation paths from one uploaded capture, while the web interface and API support different operating models.

Pricing separates public analysis from private work. Free Public Analysis requires no registration, accepts PCAP and PCAPNG files, and creates a public result page, making it suited to sanitized captures. The published annual plans list Starter Workspace at $99, Professional at $199, and Advanced at $399; their stated highlights include private storage, private reports, a REST API key, and detection of DNS failures, credential leaks, TLS/SSL issues, and network attacks. Starter Pack includes private storage and private analysis credits. Choose A-Packets for broad artifact and threat analysis across web, API, or self-hosted deployment. Avoid the free option for sensitive captures.
