First, what are you looking to replace?
Meta announced Muse in September 2026 as a personal AI agent for its AI glasses. Muse is an AI feature, not a glasses model, so an “alternative to Meta Muse” can mean a different kind of hardware or a different assistant on camera glasses. Those choices address different concerns.
- Avoid glasses-based image capture: Look at camera-free glasses, such as Even Realities G2. That changes the feature set and does not settle how microphones, companion apps, or cloud services handle data.
- Keep visual capture but use another AI provider: Solos AirGo V2 and HTC VIVE Eagle are reported to offer non-Meta assistant options. Provider choice alone is not proof of better privacy.
- Keep Meta glasses and review the controls: Meta describes settings for captures, voice, notifications, and shared information in its app. Those controls may address specific concerns without replacing the hardware or assistant.
In a Reddit discussion, one user asked for “more freedom from Meta AI” and control over where photos, video, and audio go. That is an example of an individual’s concern, not evidence of what any product can do or a representative survey.
Camera-free glasses: Even Realities G2
A September 2026 TechRepublic comparison describes Even Realities G2 as camera-free and display-oriented, and presents it as a privacy-conscious alternative. Its lack of an onboard glasses camera makes it the most direct option named here for someone who wants to avoid glasses-based image capture.

Camera glasses with another AI provider
These products may fit people who want camera functions but prefer a choice of AI engine. The reporting identifies supported providers, not a privacy advantage over Meta.

Compare the practices for the exact model and services you will use. Look for clear answers to these questions rather than treating “camera-free,” an LED, or a choice of AI provider as a complete privacy policy.

- Capture: Does the frame have a camera? What can its microphones capture, and when are they active?
- Processing: Are photos, audio, or assistant requests processed on the glasses, on a phone, or by a cloud service?
- Retention and accounts: How long are captures and conversations kept? Are they linked to an account, and can you delete them?
- Notice and safeguards: Is recording indicated in a way people nearby can see? What happens if a status light is blocked or damaged? Do not assume another brand uses safeguards like Meta’s.
- Fit and availability: Confirm the current model, regional availability, prescription options, price, and phone compatibility with the manufacturer. Those details are not established consistently for the alternatives covered here.
Meta’s controls and privacy claims, in context
If the issue is how Meta glasses handle data rather than the presence of a camera, Meta says its Meta AI app offers preferences for captures, voice, and notifications, and lets users manage information shared with Meta. Meta also says captures remain on the glasses until moved to a phone, and that taking photos or recording video for the gallery or streaming activates notification and capture LEDs. Its privacy FAQ also says voice recordings can be deleted.
Meta advises users to ask permission before photographing or recording people and to avoid sensitive locations or places where privacy is expected. These are the company’s recommendations, not independent regulatory findings. Bystander privacy remains relevant even when the wearer has app controls.

Meta says its second-generation glasses disable the camera if the capture LED is blocked, and that it is updating devices to disable the camera when LED tampering or destruction is detected. Those are manufacturer statements about its own safeguards, not evidence about competitors. See Meta’s July 2026 explanation.
For cloud processing, Meta Engineering describes Private Processing as confidential-computing infrastructure using confidential virtual machines, intended to keep off-device data inaccessible during covered AI workloads. The company also says deeply personal, stateful assistant work requires cloud processing and that its system has focused to date on discrete tasks such as summarizing a message. This description does not establish that every Muse interaction or glasses workload is covered. It is Meta’s account of its design, not independent verification of each workflow.
