If you need a phone app that plays a video file from your phone into YouTube Live, the official documentation reviewed here does not confirm that PRISM Live Studio Mobile, Streamlabs Mobile, or Larix can do it. They are documented as mobile live-production or encoder apps, but that is not the same as prerecorded-file playout. For an already-recorded video, the clearest documented options are StreamNeo, which loops uploaded videos from the cloud, or the AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder with its optional PlayToStream feature. If you want to produce a camera or screen broadcast from your phone, PRISM remains a relevant alternative.

First, distinguish phone streaming from prerecorded-video playout

A mobile streaming app can send a phone camera or screen to YouTube without necessarily being able to play a full-length video file as the live program. Likewise, a recording or video mode may mean creating content on the phone; it does not establish that the app can take an existing local file and send it as a live broadcast.

YouTube describes three ways to stream: a webcam, a mobile device, or an encoder, which may be software or hardware. Encoder streams use YouTube’s stream URL and key. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

Option What the official documentation establishes Best fit
StreamNeo Uploads videos and loops them from the cloud to YouTube; one always-on stream per slot. Keeping uploaded prerecorded videos live on YouTube without leaving a computer running.
PRISM Live Studio Mobile YouTube connection, custom RTMP, live broadcast, screen casting, overlays, and recording/video modes are described. Local-file playout as the live output is not confirmed. Live camera or screen production from a phone.
Streamlabs Mobile YouTube and custom RTMP destinations and adjustable audio/video settings are described. Local-file playout is not documented on the cited support page. Phone-based live production, not a confirmed prerecorded-file solution.
Larix YouTube lists it among mobile encoder apps; the reviewed material does not establish local-file playout. Mobile encoder workflows when the source is a live feed.
AJA HELO Plus with optional PlayToStream YouTube’s encoder directory describes scheduling prerecorded media and streaming it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. A dedicated hardware workflow for scheduled prerecorded-media playout.

Descriptions and feature packaging can change. For phone apps, check the current app documentation and test the exact file-playback workflow before relying on it for an event.

Which alternative should you choose?

1. StreamNeo: cloud looping for uploaded videos

For a YouTube channel that needs prerecorded videos to stay live, StreamNeo is the most direct fit: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps looping from the cloud, so your computer and home internet connection do not need to stay on. Each slot supports 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot. Storage is 10 GB per slot, pooled across active slots.

Every slot includes the same product; only the billing length changes. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Billing options are:

  • Daily: $0.99 per day
  • Weekly: $2.99 per week
  • Monthly: $9.99 per month
  • 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
  • Yearly: $89.99 a year

Plans can be canceled any time. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Contact support about five or more slots.

2. PRISM Live Studio Mobile: for live phone production

PRISM is a sensible choice if your actual source is a live phone camera or screen, rather than an uploaded video file. Its mobile product page describes YouTube connections, custom RTMP, screen casting, overlays, and broadcast and recording modes. The cited pages do not confirm importing a local, full-length recording and playing it as the outgoing live source. The overview’s references to adding videos and photos to a production do not establish that specific capability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

PRISM’s FAQ says the app supports live broadcasting, video recording, and photos, and describes connecting platform accounts or entering custom RTMP details. It also states that 3.5mm, USB, or Bluetooth microphones can be used with a mobile device for live streaming or recording. See PRISM Mobile, its FAQ, and the PRISM overview.

PRISM’s RTMP Overlay feature receives another device’s RTMP feed as a source or overlay; it is not documentation of a phone-local video player. See PRISM’s RTMP Overlay guide. The product page states that free users are limited to a single channel; confirm current plan terms before depending on them.

3. Streamlabs Mobile and Larix: mobile encoder options, not confirmed file players

Streamlabs’ cited support page describes YouTube and custom RTMP destinations and adjustable audio/video settings, but does not document local-file playout in its mobile app. YouTube’s encoder directory lists mobile encoders including PRISM and Larix; that listing is not proof that either app can play an existing video file to the live output. See Streamlabs Mobile support and YouTube’s encoder directory and setup guidance.

4. AJA HELO Plus: documented hardware playout

YouTube’s encoder directory describes the AJA HELO Plus and says its optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media and stream it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This is the clearest documented prerecorded-media hardware option in the sources cited here, but it is not a phone app. Confirm the exact model, configuration, current availability, and whether PlayToStream is included or optional before purchasing.

How to set up a YouTube encoder stream

This encoder route applies to a compatible software or hardware encoder. It does not make an undocumented phone app capable of local-file playback; the encoder must actually support the media source you intend to use.

  1. Check YouTube access first. For YouTube’s mobile-live route, the current Help page lists at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and enabling live streaming. Those are mobile-route requirements; do not assume they apply identically to every encoder setup. Review YouTube’s mobile live requirements.
  2. Open YouTube Live Control Room and obtain the stream URL and key. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses these connection details. Treat the key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Enter it only in the encoder you intend to use.
  3. Configure the encoder’s source and output. Select the prerecorded-media source only if the chosen encoder explicitly supports it. Set output options supported by both the encoder and YouTube; consult the current encoder and YouTube guidance for the appropriate resolution, bitrate, and keyframe settings, rather than assuming camera-stream settings will suit file playout.
  4. Start a test stream and check the preview. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder ahead of the event and previewing the stream in Live Control Room. Verify the intended audience access before starting the public broadcast.
  5. Monitor the broadcast and archive. Check audio and video during the stream and confirm that the local archive is growing where your workflow records one. A phone microphone or tripod can improve a live camera setup, but neither adds prerecorded-file playout.

Copyright and channel eligibility still matter

Using an encoder or a cloud service does not change YouTube’s rules for the content or the channel. Make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material you broadcast, and review YouTube’s current live-stream eligibility and content rules before scheduling a stream. A prerecorded broadcast is still a YouTube live stream; the tool does not grant permission to use copyrighted material or guarantee monetization. For a one-off video that does not need a live event experience, consider whether an ordinary YouTube upload would serve viewers better.

Troubleshooting

The app connects, but I cannot select a video file

Account connection and camera/screen streaming do not prove local-file playout. Check the app’s current documentation for an explicit file-playback-to-live feature. If it is not documented, use a workflow that does document prerecorded playout, such as the AJA HELO Plus feature noted above, or cloud looping with StreamNeo.

YouTube does not show the stream preview

Confirm the encoder is using the stream URL and key from the intended YouTube setup, that it is actively sending, and that you are checking the corresponding Live Control Room event. Re-enter the key carefully if necessary, and do not expose it publicly. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guidance for the current connection workflow.

The planned phone stream is not available on the channel

Check YouTube’s mobile-live requirements: the page lists a minimum of 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days, and live streaming enabled. These conditions are described for mobile live streams, not as a universal statement about all encoders.

The stream starts but audio or video is wrong

Preview before going public, check the selected source and audio input, and monitor both picture and sound during the broadcast. With a prerecorded file, verify the file itself and the encoder’s playback settings; with a camera stream, verify the camera and microphone inputs. YouTube recommends advance setup and monitoring, but exact encoder controls vary by product.
