But if you prefer iOS or Apple’s display-continuity approach, waiting for Duo may make more sense.
Why consider Galaxy Z Fold8 before pre-ordering iPhone Duo?
1. Fold8 is available sooner, with published portability measurements
Samsung lists Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201 g, 4.5 mm thick unfolded and 9.7 mm folded. The company calls it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. Its cover display measures 5.5 inches and its main display measures 7.6 inches.
Apple’s announcement gives iPhone Duo’s display sizes but does not publish its weight. That means the available figures do not establish whether Fold8 is lighter than Duo; they do let you judge Fold8’s own size and weight before buying. If a foldable is needed before October 23, Fold8 has the timing advantage.
2. Its screen proportions target reading and multitasking
Samsung says Fold8’s 7.6-inch main display uses a 4:3 aspect ratio for immersive viewing, reading and gaming. The 5.5-inch cover display is intended for tasks such as messaging, browsing and short-form video. Samsung also describes Galaxy AI and Gemini experiences optimized for its foldable form factors.

Those claims make Fold8 a plausible fit if you want a larger, squarer canvas for books, documents or multiple apps. They are manufacturer descriptions, not results from independent testing, so they do not establish how well a particular app or workflow performs.
3. You can buy it through several channels before Duo ships
Samsung says Fold8 availability began August 7, 2026, through Samsung.com, carriers, retailers and Samsung Experience Stores, with rollout to 106 markets. Apple schedules Duo pre-orders to begin October 16, 2026, and general availability for October 23. Availability can differ by market and retailer, so check local stock and delivery estimates if timing matters.

Apple describes Duo as its first foldable iPhone, running iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI on an A20 Pro chip. If your everyday apps, devices and services are already centered on iOS, that ecosystem may matter more to you than getting a foldable earlier.

You prefer Apple’s approach to the two displays
Duo has a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says the displays share an aspect ratio to support continuity as you move between them. The company also says the inner display’s nano-texture finish is intended to reduce glare and crease visibility.
You value the announced materials and design features
Apple lists grade 5 titanium, a precision hinge and a dual-battery architecture among Duo’s features. These are design specifications and claims, not evidence of longer battery life or greater hinge durability in everyday use.

Does Galaxy Z Fold8 support S Pen, and what about magnetic charging?
Fold8 does not support S Pen. Samsung says its official magnetic cases align the phone with compatible wireless chargers and magnetic accessories. Check that a case listing explicitly names Galaxy Z Fold8 and that the charger or accessory is compatible before purchasing; magnetic alignment does not by itself establish charging speed or compatibility with every accessory.
Which should you choose?
Choose Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want a foldable now, value its published 201 g weight and folded dimensions, or prefer Samsung’s Android foldable experience. Wait for iPhone Duo if iOS, Apple’s display-continuity design or its announced materials matter more to you than having a device sooner.
