What happened before Ronaldo left Portugal’s camp?
Portugal was in Copenhagen preparing to face Denmark in the Nations League. Ronaldo had spent the full match on the bench against Norway. Jesus then said Ronaldo would not start against Denmark, according to AFP.
Ronaldo’s explanation, as reported by AFP, was: “Following the national team coach’s press conference, and after having a conversation with the Portuguese Football Federation president, I decided to leave the national team’s training camp.” The statement identifies the immediate context he gave, but does not disclose what was said in his conversation with the federation president.
How did Jorge Jesus respond?
Jesus stood by his decision not to play Ronaldo against Norway, according to Al Jazeera. Sky Sports reported that Jesus denied there had been an incident with Ronaldo, while also noting reports of a rift. Those reports do not establish what happened in private, so the alleged tension should not be treated as confirmed.

Why did Ronaldo leave Portugal’s training camp, and will he play again?
Ronaldo said the press conference and his conversation with the federation president preceded his decision to leave. The detailed reason remains unresolved in the coverage: Euronews reported that Ronaldo promised to explain his reasons in due time. The reports reviewed do not establish whether he will play for Portugal again.
Leaving this particular camp is not the same as announcing retirement. It is best understood as a departure during preparations for the Denmark fixture, with Ronaldo’s future international status still unknown.
