What happened in the Dunedin High Street fire?
Emergency services were called to High Street at about 2:30am on Friday, 2 October 2026, after a shed caught fire. Police say the fire damaged the shed and the exterior of a building. Their appeal describes the location as a property and does not specify the building’s use. The “house fire” description appears in the incident’s headline and in The Gist’s report.
The Gist reported that five crews attended, occupants were accounted for and no one was injured. Those details do not appear in the Police appeal.
Why are Police treating it as suspicious?
Police say they are making enquiries and treating the fire as suspicious. That describes the status of the investigation; it does not establish the cause or prove that a crime occurred. Police have not reported a determined cause or origin.
