Italian Pokémon Trading Card Game competitor Alessandro “iCaterpie” Cremascoli says The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) permanently banned him from future Play! Pokémon events after he complained about a judge at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. That claim remains unconfirmed: reports published by Dexerto and Epicflix did not include a disciplinary notice or a public explanation from TPCi as of October 27, 2026.

Cremascoli said he deleted the complaint roughly six hours after posting it. The available public record therefore shows an athlete’s account and community commentary, not an independently verified lifetime ban or a confirmed finding that naming a judge violated a specific rule.

Who is iCaterpie, and what does he say happened?

Alessandro Cremascoli, known in the Pokémon TCG community as iCaterpie, described himself as having devoted 25 years to the game. Epicflix’s 2026 coverage identified him as a two-time Italian national champion, while Dexerto reported that Limitless recorded him finishing ninth at the September 2026 Frankfurt Regional Championships, an event with 2,793 players according to GamingProMax.

On October 16, 2026, while preparing to travel to the Nice Regional Championships scheduled for October 17–18, Cremascoli said he had been permanently banned from future Play! Pokémon events. He linked the sanction to his treatment by a judge at the 2026 World Championships. His public statement included the lines “Tpci finally got me.”, “I dedicated 25 years of my life to this game.” and “I’m devastated. Pokemon is literally my life. I can’t stop crying.”

Cremascoli said he removed the complaint about six hours after publishing it. Community creator JenTCG said the deleted post named the judge and accused that judge of unfair treatment, while also warning that important context might be missing. JenTCG’s explanation is commentary, not an official account of why any discipline may have occurred.

Has TPCi confirmed a lifetime ban?

No public confirmation was included in the reports available through October 27, 2026. Neither Dexerto nor Epicflix published a TPCi disciplinary notice, a quoted company statement identifying the rule at issue, or documentation showing whether an appeal was available or completed.

That distinction matters. “Cremascoli says he was banned for life” is supported by his statement; “TPCi banned him for naming a judge” is not established by the public material reviewed. The exact sanction, its duration, its policy basis and its procedural history remain unresolved unless TPCi releases further information or Cremascoli publishes additional documentation.

What do Play! Pokémon rules say about suspensions?

Play! Pokémon’s published rules provide a framework in which serious conduct violations can lead to removal or suspension, but they do not show that those provisions were applied to Cremascoli.

Online-conduct policy

A February 6, 2025 Play! Pokémon announcement says profiles principally engaged in harassment or promotion of violent views can violate the online-conduct policy and face disciplinary action. The announcement says severe cases may result in immediate removal without the ability to appeal. It does not identify public criticism of a judge as an automatic violation, nor does it mention Cremascoli.

Inclusion Policy

The Inclusion Policy applies to players, organizers, Professors, staff and attendees. It says TPCi may discipline people up to removal from Play! Pokémon programs. The policy establishes broad authority to act on conduct concerns, but the public reports do not connect a particular clause to Cremascoli’s alleged sanction.

Tournament Rules Handbook

The official Tournament Rules Handbook says Pokémon Organized Play may impose disciplinary action, including suspension. It states that suspended players should not participate in or attend Play! Pokémon events as players, spectators, judges or in other capacities, and that players will be notified. Those provisions explain how a suspension can affect event access; they do not prove that Cremascoli received one, that it was permanent, or that he was notified for a specific reason.

What is known, and what is still unverified?

Question Publicly reported information Status
Who announced the alleged ban? Alessandro Cremascoli (iCaterpie), in a statement dated October 16, 2026 Self-report
What event did he connect it to? The 2026 Pokémon World Championships His account, also reported by Dexerto and Epicflix
What did the deleted post reportedly contain? A complaint about treatment by a judge; JenTCG said the judge was named and accused of unfair treatment Community commentary; the original post was deleted
Did a public TPCi notice identify the rule? No notice was included in the reports available through October 27, 2026 Unconfirmed
Is the exclusion definitely permanent? Cremascoli described it as permanent Not independently verified
Was an appeal offered or decided? The reviewed reports did not provide appeal information Unresolved

Why the wording matters for players and spectators

A lifetime exclusion would be an unusually consequential outcome for a long-time competitor, especially one who had recently remained active on the circuit. The Frankfurt result in September indicates that Cremascoli was still competing shortly before his October announcement, but it does not establish when any disciplinary process began or whether the result has any bearing on the alleged sanction.

The policies also distinguish between what conduct rules permit in general and what happened in a particular case. A complaint can be protected criticism, a policy violation, or something in between depending on its wording, context and the process used to assess it. Without the deleted post, a written notice or a company explanation, outside observers cannot determine which interpretation applies.

Readers should therefore treat the story as an allegation with a documented timeline, not as a confirmed finding that Pokémon banned a player merely for criticizing or identifying a judge.

What happened next?

Cremascoli made the announcement as he was preparing for the Nice Regional Championships on October 17–18. The available reporting does not establish whether he attended, whether event staff barred him, or whether TPCi later issued a clarification. As of October 27, 2026, the central questions—what rule was allegedly violated, what penalty was imposed, and whether any appeal exists—remain unanswered in public sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Could a Play! Pokémon suspension cover attendance as a spectator?

Yes. The Tournament Rules Handbook says suspended players should not participate in or attend Play! Pokémon events as players, spectators, judges or in other capacities. That is the general rule framework, not proof that it was imposed in this case.

Did deleting the complaint erase the alleged violation?

Deletion does not establish whether a policy was breached or whether organizers retained a copy. The public reports do not say what evidence TPCi reviewed, so the effect of removing the post cannot be assessed.

Where would an official explanation most likely appear?

A formal disciplinary notice, a statement from TPCi, or a direct update to the Play! Pokémon rules or event channels would provide stronger confirmation than community posts. None was included in the reporting available by October 27, 2026.

What should competitors do if they dispute a judge decision?

Players should use the event’s published appeal and judge-call procedures, keep factual records, and avoid posting identifying allegations before understanding the applicable conduct rules. The alleged Cremascoli case does not establish that public criticism itself triggers a ban.
