A successful click is not proof that authentication finished: redirects may still be setting cookies. Then check which browser storage the application uses, save state only after authentication succeeds, and assert both the destination URL and a signed-in UI element before capturing the page.
1. Confirm the login really completed
Use an application-specific success condition rather than a click result or a fixed delay. Playwright notes that authentication can involve several redirects while cookies are being set. Wait for the final URL or for a stable element that appears only when signed in, then save the authentication state.
For example, adapt this pattern to your application’s final route and signed-in control:

Do not save state merely because the button was clicked or because an arbitrary number of milliseconds elapsed.

2. Save and reuse state at the right time
Playwright’s recommended pattern is to authenticate in a setup project, save browser state after success, and configure test projects to reuse it. Put the authentication directory in .gitignore: saved state can contain cookies and headers capable of impersonating an account. Regenerate it when it expires.
Whether one state file is safe for parallel tests depends on your application’s server-side behavior. If tests mutate shared account data, use separate accounts and per-worker state rather than having parallel tests interfere with one account. 3. Check which storage the application uses
A state file can be valid yet incomplete for an application whose authentication depends on storage that the standard workflow does not persist. Identify the mechanism used by the app and confirm the installed Playwright version supports any options you rely on.

4. Assert the destination and capture useful evidence
In the failing test, assert the expected URL and a stable signed-in element before taking a screenshot. These checks turn “the screenshot looks wrong” into a clear failure that identifies whether navigation or authenticated UI state is missing.

5. Troubleshoot the redirect symptom

The symptom alone does not establish a single root cause. Without the test, app configuration, storage mechanism, and redirect sequence, an expired state, premature state capture, missing storage, or app-specific redirect behavior remain possibilities to investigate—not conclusions.
