If your Pixel Watch says Disconnected, first check that Bluetooth is on, Airplane Mode is off on both devices, the phone has internet access, and the Pixel Watch app has nearby-device permission. Then restart the watch and bring it close to the phone. If the problem happens only when you leave the phone behind, check whether your watch is a Wi-Fi or LTE model: Wi-Fi models depend on the phone or an internet connection, while LTE needs compatible hardware and an active, correctly provisioned carrier eSIM.

What should I check before resetting my Pixel Watch?

Start with the simple connection checks; they address common causes without erasing watch data or changing a mobile plan. On both the phone and watch, make sure Bluetooth is on and Airplane Mode is off. Confirm the phone itself can reach the internet, and allow nearby-device access for the Pixel Watch app on the phone.

  1. Check Bluetooth. Turn it on in the phone’s Bluetooth settings and on the watch if you are pairing or reconnecting.
  2. Turn off Airplane Mode. Check both devices. A watch or phone left in Airplane Mode may look disconnected even when the other connection settings are correct.
  3. Check the phone’s internet connection. Open a webpage or app on the phone. Phone connectivity matters for setup, syncing, and texts; a watch connected to the phone is not a substitute for the phone being online.
  4. Allow nearby devices. In the phone’s app permissions, make sure the Pixel Watch app is allowed to access nearby devices. Exact menu labels can vary by Android version.

Move the watch and phone closer together before trying to pair again. For Fast Pair, Google specifies a distance of no more than 0.5 m (1.6 ft). Make sure the watch has charge; Google’s setup guidance also calls for Wi-Fi and Location to be on during pairing. If setup spends more than 20 minutes sharing information between the devices, use Google’s Wear OS setup-troubleshooting flow rather than treating it as an LTE failure.

How do I reconnect a Pixel Watch to my phone over Bluetooth?

If the watch shows Disconnected while your phone is nearby, restart the watch first, then check Bluetooth and Airplane Mode. Save unpairing and factory reset for a pairing that is still broken after those steps.

  1. Restart the watch: press and hold the crown for 3 seconds, scroll to Restart, and tap it.
  2. If the screen is unresponsive, hard-reset it: hold the crown and side button together for about 35 seconds, or until the G logo appears. This is a forced restart, not the same as a factory reset.
  3. Check the phone: confirm Bluetooth is on. On Android, the general path is Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth; menu wording can differ by phone.
  4. Check the watch: make sure Airplane Mode is off in Settings > Connectivity or Settings > Connections, depending on the software version.
  5. Update both devices if an update is available, then check whether the connection returns.

If the connection remains broken, the companion app or the phone’s saved Bluetooth record may be holding a stale pairing. In the Wear OS app, the generic recovery route is Advanced settings > Forget watch; then remove the watch from the phone’s saved Bluetooth devices and pair it again. Pixel Watch owners should use the Pixel Watch app for the Pixel-specific unpair and setup steps.

When pairing cannot be repaired, remove the old connection and set up the watch again. On the watch, use Settings > Disconnect & reset; in the Pixel Watch app, the corresponding option is System > Reset and unpair watch. On the phone, forget the watch in its Bluetooth settings, restart the phone, and start pairing again with the devices close together. A reset deletes the watch’s apps, settings, and data, so treat it as a last resort and read any eSIM prompt carefully before confirming.

A Google Issue Tracker report dated 30 October 2026 described a Pixel Watch 4 Bluetooth drop after the watch left Wi-Fi coverage on Android 17 QPR3 beta 3; restarting the phone restored the connection in that report. It is a report about a beta build, not evidence that all Pixel Watch 4s or production Android versions have this fault. If your issue closely matches that sequence while using beta software, restarting the phone is a reasonable troubleshooting step.

Why does my Pixel Watch show a Wi-Fi or network error?

A Pixel Watch can use Wi-Fi to reach the internet when Bluetooth is unavailable, but that does not make every Wi-Fi network usable. The watch can join saved networks or a network you add manually, but it cannot complete a sign-in page or connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

If the Pixel Watch app reports a Network error, first check that the phone is online. Google notes that a watch with Wi-Fi enabled can automatically join Wi-Fi networks saved on the phone. To check or add a network on the watch, swipe down, open Settings > Connectivity > Wi-Fi, turn Wi-Fi on, and choose Add network if needed. Enter the password on the watch.

Google states: “Your watch can’t connect to Wi-Fi networks that take you to a page before you can connect (for example, Wi-Fi networks at places like hotels or coffee shops). It also can’t connect to 5GHz networks.” In practice, look for a compatible 2.4 GHz network without a captive-portal sign-in page. Repeatedly entering a hotel or café password will not bypass a captive portal the watch cannot use.

Wear OS guidance says a supported watch can remain connected to the phone at a distance if both devices have internet access. If the phone is off or offline, or the watch’s Wi-Fi is off or unsupported, a disconnected indicator can appear. Wear OS also describes a cloud sync setting in the Wear OS app for using Wi-Fi or cellular data on the watch; that toggle is not available on iPhones. Pixel Watch owners should use the Pixel Watch app for the Pixel-specific setup rather than looking for a Wear OS app menu that may not apply.

Why won’t my Pixel Watch LTE connect to mobile data?

Mobile data troubleshooting applies only to an LTE Pixel Watch. On the watch, open Settings > Connectivity: if there is no Mobile setting, the watch does not have cellular service hardware. For LTE to work, the watch needs a supported carrier plan and an active eSIM provisioned for that watch.

Google says an activated LTE watch that is physically away from its phone for an extended period switches from the phone’s Bluetooth connection to the carrier’s LTE network. Wear OS adds that mobile service is off by default while the watch is connected to the phone by Bluetooth, and the watch automatically connects to cellular when Bluetooth is turned off. If you want cellular to stay on more often, the mobile-network setting can be changed to Always on, but that can use more battery. Check that Mobile or Roaming data has not been switched off manually.

  1. Check the signal and SIM status: on the watch, go to Settings > Connectivity > Mobile > SIM status. Coverage and service availability depend on the carrier and location.
  2. Confirm the plan and carrier: the watch must be an LTE model with a supported plan. Google’s guidance requires the phone and watch to use the same carrier for its standard cellular setup. Supported-carrier availability differs by country and watch generation, so confirm that your carrier supports your specific model.
  3. Check the mobile-network setting: on the watch, confirm the network is set to Automatic if that option is available. On the phone, open Pixel Watch app > Connectivity > Mobile network, select the carrier, and complete any on-screen activation steps.
  4. Restart if the plan is enabled but the watch is not paired: Google notes that mobile service may not work in that state until the watch restarts. Use Settings > System > Restart, or hold the crown for 3 seconds and select Restart.
  5. Ask the carrier to check provisioning if the eSIM still will not register. The carrier can confirm whether the watch’s SIM or eSIM is active on the account.

Stale eSIM profiles are another cause of LTE failures, especially after changing devices or plans. If the watch has an old inactive profile, fully charge and power on the watch, check SIM status, then open Settings > Connectivity > Mobile > Advanced > Reset eSIM. Some operators require you to contact them to reactivate service afterward. If you accidentally deleted a profile, use Settings > Connectivity > Mobile > Advanced and follow the on-screen steps to add it again; the carrier may need to reactivate it.

Take care if the watch uses a Google Fi promotional data profile: Google’s offer instructions say to reset profiles not named Google, but not to remove a profile named Google. If roaming is the issue, do not assume all regions or carriers are supported. Google’s Pixel Watch 2 guidance describes roaming only when the carrier supports VoLTE and watch roaming; it permits roaming within the EU/UK/APAC or within North America, not between those regions. Enable Data Roaming under Settings > Connectivity > Mobile only when your plan and destination support it, and confirm details with the carrier.

Can a Pixel Watch use mobile data without making calls?

Yes. Some LTE data offers are not full carrier number-share plans, so a watch may have internet access and synced texts without LTE voice calling. Check the exact terms of the plan before relying on the watch as a phone when you leave your handset behind.

Google’s US two-year watch-data offer for eligible Pixel Watch 4 LTE and Pixel Watch 5 LTE purchases includes data and texting, but not LTE voice calling. Google’s terms say, “When your watch is outside the Bluetooth range of your paired phone, it can’t make or receive calls,” and “Voice calling over LTE is not supported.” The watch’s texts sync through Google Messages using the phone’s number, so the phone must be on and online; the watch does not receive its own number through this offer.

The offer is US-only and does not support roaming outside the US. It includes up to 500 MB of high-speed data per month; after that, speed drops to 256 kbps, with a hard cap of 1 GB per month. Activation must be completed within 60 days of watch setup in Pixel Watch app > Connectivity > Mobile network > Activate Google Fi data. Google’s eligibility terms list the Google Store and Best Buy from 20 August 2025, and Amazon purchases excluding third-party sellers from 6 February 2026; Alaska and other US territories are excluded, and users must be 18 or older. Existing Google Fi phone customers should not redeem the offer separately. After two years, continued full connectivity requires a separate carrier data plan; Google says Google Fi Wireless phone plans already include wearable data.

To verify whether the promotional profile is active, check the watch’s SIM status for Google or Google Fi. For a watch expected to make calls away from the phone, verify that it has a full carrier plan that supports LTE voice—not just the promotional data offer. Pixel Watch 4 LTE or 5 LTE hardware alone does not guarantee that a particular plan includes calling.

What still works when the watch is disconnected?

If the watch is not connected to the phone or internet, it can still do several local tasks: show the time and date, run alarms, timers and the stopwatch, display today’s calendar, count steps, measure heart rate if equipped, change watch faces, and play music already downloaded to the watch. Internet-dependent voice actions will not work offline.

Google’s cellular-versus-Bluetooth/Wi-Fi feature guidance distinguishes between functions that work on either connection and those that require LTE. Activity tracking, heart rate, exercise modes, Google Assistant, Fast Pair, wireless headphones, Google Wallet, messages when the phone is online, and downloaded music are listed for both connection types. Streaming music without the phone, calls without the phone, and other phone-independent notifications are LTE-only in that comparison. Actual availability can still depend on the app, account, region, and plan.

Why can’t I call or text from my Pixel Watch?

Calling and texting depend on the watch model and connection path. A Wi-Fi model needs its phone nearby over Bluetooth for calls, and the phone must be online for synced texts. An LTE model with a suitable carrier plan can place or receive calls without the phone nearby; a data-only promotional plan may not support voice calls.

Google states that a Wi-Fi Pixel Watch cannot make or receive calls or send and receive texts unless the phone is physically close. For LTE, confirm that Settings > Connectivity > Mobile is available and that the watch has an active carrier connection. Google says Pixel Watch syncs texts with the phone, so the connected phone must be online. Wear OS also cautions that some cellular features, such as voice calls, can work while the phone is away, while SMS, phone notifications, and some third-party apps may still depend on the phone being on.

If calls arrive on the phone but not the watch, check whether Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, Theater/Cinema, or Battery Saver is muting or pausing notifications. To move an ongoing call from the phone to the watch, tap the phone icon at the bottom of the watch screen and choose Pull call audio to watch. Calling and texting requirements include a Google Account and internet access; Google lists Android 10.0 or newer in its calling/texting requirements. Google explicitly documents Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 as Android-only; do not assume iPhone compatibility for later generations based on that older statement.

Will Emergency SOS work if my Pixel Watch loses its connection?

Emergency calling requires a working path to emergency services. Google says a Wi-Fi Pixel Watch relies on a nearby phone connected over Bluetooth; LTE hardware can call without a phone only when the watch has an active LTE connection.

There is also a time-sensitive change for Pixel Watch 2 and 3. The Verge reported on 8 October 2026, citing a Google community post, that free Safety Signal access over LTE without a mobile plan—including Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check—ends after 12 December 2026. Users receive a notification and email, followed by a 30-day transition period from that email. After the cutoff, those features remain available without a mobile plan only over Wi-Fi or while the watch is paired with the phone by Bluetooth. If you rely on these features, check the watch’s current connection and plan status rather than assuming free LTE access will continue.

When should I factory-reset a Pixel Watch?

Factory-reset only after restart, connection checks, and relevant Bluetooth or eSIM troubleshooting fail. It erases apps, settings, and data, and you may need your most recent PIN or Google Account to set up the watch afterward.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can reset from the watch at Settings > Disconnect & reset > OK, or in the Pixel Watch app at System > Reset and unpair watch. If a reset does not resolve a stale pairing, uninstalling the Pixel Watch app, forgetting the watch under the phone’s connected devices, restarting the phone, and setting up again can clear the old connection state. Keep the watch and phone close during setup.

Google documents a Fastboot recovery route for a watch that will not reset normally. Hold the crown and side button for about 20 seconds until the G logo appears. Tap the upper-left and lower-right edges together to enter Fastboot; use the side button to scroll to Recovery Mode and press the crown. At the No Command screen, hold the crown and swipe up, choose Wipe Data or Factory Reset, swipe right to confirm, then choose Reboot system now. This erases the watch. If the display remains dead, Google’s final hard-reset step is to try while the watch is on its charger, then contact Google support if it still does not respond.

Use the official Pixel Watch charging cable when charging or attempting the charger-based recovery step. Android Authority reported on 3 September 2025 that Google specifies its official cable and that another cable or cradle, or Pixel reverse wireless charging, will not charge the watch. Charging is not a fix for carrier provisioning, but a watch that is depleted cannot reliably complete setup or recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Pixel Watch need a Google phone to reconnect?

No. Google documents Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 as pairing with Android phones, and its calling/texting requirements list Android 10.0 or newer for supported phones. The available data does not establish iPhone compatibility for later Pixel Watch generations, so check the requirements for your exact model before buying or attempting a reset.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use hotel Wi-Fi on my Pixel Watch if I sign in on my phone first?

Not if the network requires a captive-portal page before internet access; Google says the watch cannot connect through that sign-in flow. A saved password on the phone does not remove the limitation, so use Bluetooth through the phone or another compatible network instead.

Will my Pixel Watch LTE call emergency services without a plan?

Google says LTE Emergency SOS needs an active LTE connection, and the Wi-Fi model needs its phone nearby over Bluetooth. For Pixel Watch 2 and 3, free Safety Signal access over LTE without a plan is scheduled to end after 12 December 2026, according to The Verge’s report of Google’s notice.

Can I keep my eSIM when I reset my Pixel Watch?

The reset flow may present an eSIM choice, so read it carefully: erasing a profile can require carrier reactivation. If retaining the line matters, do not confirm an option that erases the eSIM; if you already removed it, follow the watch’s re-add steps and contact the carrier if activation does not complete.
