Check whether your Pixel supports HiLight
Google documents HiLight for Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. If you do not see the setting, first confirm your device model; the guidance does not establish support for other Pixel phones. Google describes HiLight as a subtle glow that indicates certain important activities. Google’s HiLight guide
Choose which HiLight cues to use
Open Settings > System > HiLight. Turn Use HiLight on, then select either or both available cue types:
- Speaking with Gemini: HiLight provides soft visual cues while you speak with Gemini.
- Calls from favorites: HiLight cues incoming calls from people you have marked as favorites.
Leave either option off if you do not want its cue. You can enable both, use only one, or turn off Use HiLight to disable HiLight.

Make favorite-contact calls easier to recognize
Enable favorite-call cues and check flash notifications
In Settings > System > HiLight, enable Calls from favorites. Google says this works with Phone by Google and WhatsApp. If flash notifications are enabled, HiLight will not appear for incoming calls. Google’s HiLight guide
Set a color for each favorite
- In Contacts, open the person’s contact and mark them as a favorite if they are not one already.
- Open that favorite’s contact settings and tap HiLight.
- Choose a color, preview it, and tap Done.
Google says the default HiLight color applies to favorite calls until you customize a contact. Update the contact information in Contacts first if it needs correcting.

Understand how Modes affect calls
HiLight glows by default when modes such as Flip to Shhh, Bedtime, or Do Not Disturb are enabled. If you want to disable HiLight for a particular mode, Google’s instructions are to open Settings > Modes, select the mode, then go to People > Calls > None and turn off Allow repeat callers. Important: setting Calls to None also turns off ring or vibration notifications for calls while that mode is active. This is not just a change to the visual HiLight cue.

Hide sensitive notification details from the lock screen
To control notification content shown on the lock screen, open Settings > Notifications > Privacy > Notifications on lock screen and turn Show sensitive content on or off. This controls lock-screen notification content; Google documents it separately from HiLight. Google’s lock-screen privacy guide

The lock-screen control lets you choose whether sensitive notification content is visible there. The reviewed Google HiLight guidance does not specify how HiLight collects or processes data, so it does not establish whether HiLight processes data on-device or elsewhere. Do not treat the lock-screen setting as a control for HiLight’s data handling.
