Finish the missable content first, then use the post-ending free-roam window for cleanup before choosing New Game Plus (NG+). In particular, complete side tales as soon as they appear, finish the purple-icon True Ending chain before entering Mirage Estate in Pangzhen, make manual saves before major transitions, and settle on the weapons and Phantom Edges you actually want to develop. NG+ is an optional replay rather than an automatic post-credits jump, so there is no need to select it immediately.
Phantom Blade Zero is available on the US PlayStation Store and Steam as of October 30, 2026; the US listings show October 28, while some other regions show October 29. The timing matters because older pages still describe the game as an upcoming pre-order.
What should I do before New Game Plus?
Use this order: clear time-sensitive side tales, complete the True Ending requirements, preserve manual saves, improve a flexible combat loadout, finish the story, explore again in post-story free roam, and only then select NG+. The distinction between missable quests and recoverable collectibles is the key to avoiding a second campaign solely to repair a preventable mistake.
- At every new region: talk to NPCs, inspect the journal, accept available side tales, and finish objectives that are reachable before the next main-story advance.
- Before major exits: create a separate manual save. PowerPyx’s 2026 trophy roadmap reports 20 manual slots and three rotating autosaves; PlayStation’s listing confirms manual saving, but not that slot count.
- Before Mirage Estate: finish the purple-icon quests required for the True Ending.
- Before the finale: complete Bloodline Awakening and its five Long Pillar encounters, then heed the final warning at the Bell.
- After the ending: use free roam to collect ordinary items and complete tales that remain available, while remembering that already-failed side tales do not come back.
- At the final decision: keep a pre-NG+ save if the game allows it, verify your preferred build, and start NG+ only when you no longer need the current run for cleanup.
That sequence follows the post-release trophy and ending walkthroughs rather than assuming that every quest or item follows the same reset rule.

Is New Game Plus automatic after the ending?
No. NG+ is an optional campaign replay. The trophy roadmap says free roam remains available between the ending and entering NG+, giving you a chance to revisit accessible areas and gather remaining recoverable items.
Think of the ending as a decision point, not a forced mode switch. If a collectible, ordinary exploration objective, or still-active tale is available in the post-story state, complete it there. Do not expect that window to restore a quest that already shows a red failed marker in the journal; the roadmap specifically separates missed tales from cleanup content.
The practical routine is simple: finish the final boss, return to the world, check your journal and collection screens, make a final manual save, and then choose NG+ from the available post-story option. If you want to preserve a particular inventory state or experiment with a different ending route later, keep an earlier save as well.

Which side quests are missable?
Some side tales fail when the main story crosses a regional or chapter transition. The exact trigger is not documented for every tale, so completing a quest when it first appears is safer than trying to identify the last possible moment.
At the start of each region, speak to every available NPC and inspect the journal before following the next critical-story marker. A red failed label is the clearest indication that a tale has been lost on the current run. Maintaining several manual saves lets you return to a point before the transition instead of replaying the entire campaign.
Weeping Valley Creek
Begin the first objective of A Severed Mindseal before leaving Weeping Valley Creek. The roadmap does not establish its exact failure trigger, which is why treating it as an early priority is prudent.
Crimson Forest
- Complete Apprentice Healer before meeting Jing Ye.
- Finish A Healer’s Mercy and deliver the Flesh Lily to Yu’er before meeting Bai Chilian.
- Accept Secrets of the Baishan Sect before meeting Bai Chilian.
These are documented, trophy-relevant examples, not a guarantee that they represent every time-sensitive tale in the game. Continue checking the journal after each story advance.
Village of Lu
Accept The Journey Home and Young Master Lan, and complete each tale’s first objective before entering Pangzhen. Doing only the acceptance step is not the same as progressing the opening objective, so check the journal for completion status.

After Mirage Estate
The True Ending guide recommends clearing other available side tales before progressing through Mount Soulrend because some can become unavailable. A later warning called The Last Chance appears at the Bell before the final boss; treat it as the final opportunity to resolve remaining eligible content.
How do I get the True Ending in one playthrough?
Complete the purple-icon quest chain before entering Mirage Estate in Pangzhen, then finish Bloodline Awakening and all five Long Pillar encounters before proceeding to the ending. The independent ending guide says this route can be completed on a first playthrough, so NG+ is not required for the True Ending.
Before entering Mirage Estate
When approaching Mirage Estate through the Green Serpent House, work through the purple-icon quests listed by the guide:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Sha-Chi Powered Boat
- Allure of Vanity
- Illusory Pipa
- Pillars of Kunlun
- Whence the Weeping
- The Herald’s Illusion
- Crimson Manor
- Secrets at the Heart of the Lake
The game reportedly displays a warning when required quests remain. Stop at that warning, open the journal, and resolve every outstanding purple objective instead of assuming the transition can be reversed.
After Mirage Estate
Complete Bloodline Awakening and its five Long Pillar encounters before advancing to the ending sequence. The guide places these requirements after Mirage Estate and recommends finishing other side tales before pushing through Mount Soulrend. At the Bell, The Last Chance is another warning to stop and check the journal before the final boss.
Quest names and cutoff details come from dated post-release walkthroughs, so a future patch could alter triggers or wording. The in-game warning and current journal state should take precedence over a static checklist.
Can I clean up collectibles after beating the story?
Usually, yes for ordinary recoverable exploration items and still-available tales: the trophy roadmap explicitly says free roam remains available after the ending and before NG+. That does not make every missed objective recoverable.
Use the post-story interval to revisit regions, open remaining routes, and check collection or journal entries. A tale that failed earlier is excluded from this cleanup opportunity, so the correct response to a red failed marker is an earlier save or a later NG+ run, not waiting until the credits have rolled.

Separate three categories in your notes:
| Category | When to handle it | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Time-sensitive side tale | As soon as it appears, before the listed story gate | Can fail when the story advances; post-story free roam does not restore an already-failed tale. |
| True Ending quest | Before Mirage Estate, then before the finale as specified | Required for the True Ending route; heed in-game warnings. |
| Ordinary collectible or exploration item | During the first run or post-story free roam | Often remains available after the ending, subject to area access and the item’s own rules. |
This classification is more useful than treating every side activity as equally missable.
How should I use manual saves?
Create named or otherwise identifiable manual saves before leaving a region, before entering a major story location, before Mirage Estate, before Mount Soulrend, and immediately before the final sequence. PlayStation confirms that the game supports manual saving; the 2026 PowerPyx roadmap reports 20 manual slots and three rotating autosaves.
Do not rely on rotating autosaves to preserve a missed-quest recovery point. Keep at least one older regional save and one recent progression save rather than overwriting every slot with the latest position. Before NG+, retain a final pre-transition save if the interface permits it; this is a precaution, not proof that every inventory or quest state can be restored after starting NG+.

- Gate-before: made immediately before a named transition such as Mirage Estate.
- Ending-ready: made after True Ending requirements and final side-tale checks.
- Pre-NG+: made in post-story free roam after cleanup.
If a quest later appears as failed, load the most recent gate-before save and complete it before crossing the trigger again.
What should I upgrade before NG+?
Build for flexibility rather than trying to guess a single perfect NG+ weapon. S-Game founder and CEO Soulframe Liang says the game has more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary Phantom Edges, and that weapons can be reforged to reclaim upgrade materials: “You can always reforge it, get those materials back, and reinvest them in another.”
That means a first-run upgrade is not necessarily permanent. Experiment with the weapon class, defensive options, and Phantom Edges that match your preferred combat rhythm, then reforge if your priorities change. Keep enough resources for a functional alternate setup instead of spending every material on one untested path, but do not hoard everything out of fear that an upgrade choice cannot be undone.
Preparation checklist for your loadout
- Identify one reliable main weapon for unfamiliar encounters.
- Keep a second option that covers a different range, speed, or defensive need.
- Try several Phantom Edges while ordinary encounters are still available.
- Reforge equipment that no longer suits your play style and reinvest the recovered materials.
- Enter post-story free roam with a complete, usable build rather than unfinished experiments.
The developer’s weapon counts are published gameplay figures, not an independently audited inventory. They indicate breadth, not a requirement to master every weapon before NG+.

What is reported to carry over into NG+?
There is no fully corroborated official carryover list in the available material. A newly published Gamexplore guide reports that equipment, progression items, training, and archives carry over, while quests, maps, key items, and remaining days reset. Treat those categories as a provisional single-source report rather than guaranteed rules for every item or patch version.

Do not plan around an unverified percentage of transferred equipment, a specific enemy-scaling multiplier, or a claim that every currency and key item survives. The trophy roadmap and post-release guides establish that NG+ is an optional replay and that post-story cleanup exists; they do not establish a definitive inventory-by-inventory contract.
Before selecting NG+, record what matters to you: equipped weapons, Phantom Edges, upgrade materials, training progress, archive entries, quest completion, and outstanding collectibles. A screenshot or written checklist will reveal what changed after the transition and makes it easier to distinguish a reset that was expected from a problem that needs investigation.
Should I choose post-story free roam or NG+ first?
Choose post-story free roam first when your goal is cleanup; choose NG+ when you want a fresh campaign with an established combat setup. They solve different problems and should not be treated as interchangeable modes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Option | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Post-story free roam | Collect remaining ordinary items, revisit accessible regions, and finish tales that did not fail. | It cannot revive a side tale already marked failed, and access rules can vary by activity. |
| NG+ | Replay the campaign with whatever progression the game transfers and revisit encounters using a developed loadout. | Exact carryover categories and reset exceptions are not fully confirmed by official material. |
If you start NG+ before checking the post-story world, you may create unnecessary work. The safest order is cleanup, final save, then replay.
Are the difficulty modes the same as NG+?
No. The developer discusses difficulty choices including Wayfarer, Hellwalker, and Sixty-Six Days, but the available material does not establish that any of these modes is NG+ or document a universal unlock condition for them.
Do not infer a timed NG+ rule from the plot’s sixty-six-day premise. A named difficulty, a story countdown, and an optional campaign replay are separate concepts unless the game’s own menu or a later official update explicitly connects them.
What does the first-run timeline look like?
Use this chronological checklist while playing:
- Enter a region: talk to NPCs, inspect side tales, and make a manual save.
- Weeping Valley Creek: start A Severed Mindseal before leaving.
- Crimson Forest: complete Apprentice Healer before Jing Ye; complete A Healer’s Mercy, deliver the Flesh Lily to Yu’er, and accept Secrets of the Baishan Sect before Bai Chilian.
- Village of Lu: accept The Journey Home and Young Master Lan, and complete their first objectives before entering Pangzhen.
- Pangzhen: before entering Mirage Estate through Green Serpent House, finish the ten named purple-icon True Ending quests and respond to the warning if one remains.
- After Mirage Estate: complete Bloodline Awakening and all five Long Pillar encounters.
- Mount Soulrend: clear remaining eligible side tales before advancing.
- The Bell: stop at The Last Chance, check the journal, and finish anything still available.
- Finale: complete the ending, then return to free roam.
- Post-story: gather recoverable collectibles, verify the build and saves, and only then select NG+.
This is a risk-reduction route, not an exhaustive list of every side tale. The journal and in-game warnings remain the authoritative checks for a current build.
How long should I budget for a completion-focused first run?
PowerPyx estimates roughly 30–40 hours for a platinum-oriented run and one minimum playthrough. That is a guide estimate, not a guaranteed completion time: exploration pace, combat difficulty, optional content, and reloads can make an individual run shorter or longer.

Budget extra time before the finale for the purple-icon chain, Bloodline Awakening, the Long Pillar encounters, and a deliberate journal review. Rushing the final chapters to reach NG+ is more likely to cost time through a missed tale than to save it.
Does the Deluxe edition help with NG+ preparation?
Nothing in the available data makes the Deluxe edition essential for NG+ preparation. Its artbook and soundtrack are digital, and S-Game says the early-unlock Treasure Basin and Legacy outfit can be obtained through in-game progression. Treat edition bonuses as optional extras rather than prerequisites for a complete first run.
For platform setup, PlayStation lists vibration and adaptive-trigger support for the DualSense wireless controller for PS5. That is a compatibility note, not an NG+ unlock or evidence that buying another controller improves progression.

What if I already missed a quest?
First, check the journal for a red failed marker and load the newest manual save made before the relevant story transition. If no suitable save exists, finish the current run’s recoverable content, document what is missing, and plan to complete the failed tale in NG+ rather than assuming post-story free roam will restore it.
Do not discard the current run solely because one tale was missed. You can still pursue the True Ending requirements that remain available, complete ordinary exploration, and use the replay to target the specific failed quest later. Keeping separate saves prevents one mistake from erasing otherwise valuable progress.
How we chose this preparation order
The order prioritizes the evidence-backed risks: side tales with documented story cutoffs, the True Ending chain’s Mirage Estate and finale gates, the confirmed availability of post-story free roam, and the uncertainty around exact NG+ transfer rules. It also distinguishes official platform and developer statements from independent roadmap details, so a reported slot count or carryover category is not presented as a guaranteed system rule.
Frequently Asked Questions
When was Phantom Blade Zero released on PC and PS5?
As of October 30, 2026, it is listed on Steam and the US PlayStation Store. The US listings show October 28, while some regional listings show October 29, so older pre-order pages should not be treated as current availability information.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Can I earn the True Ending without starting NG+?
Yes. The post-release True Ending walkthrough says the required purple-icon quests, Bloodline Awakening, and five Long Pillar encounters can all be completed during the first campaign. NG+ is therefore a replay option, not a prerequisite for that ending.
How many manual saves does Phantom Blade Zero have?
PowerPyx’s 2026 trophy roadmap reports 20 manual slots plus three rotating autosaves. PlayStation confirms manual-saving support but does not independently publish that slot total, so keep multiple named checkpoints rather than relying on the reported number as an official guarantee.
Will a patch change which quests are missable?
It could. The detailed cutoff list comes from post-release independent guides, while the journal and any in-game warning reflect the rules in your installed version. Recheck those prompts after major updates instead of assuming an older walkthrough still describes every trigger.
