The best starting point is the fastest stable mode: choose Performance for a 60 FPS combat target, Balanced on PS5 Pro only when you have a 120Hz VRR display, and Quality when image detail matters more than response. On PC, apply the recommended preset, choose the appropriate upscaler at Balanced, cap the frame rate, reduce visual distractions, and add frame generation or ray tracing only after the base frame rate is stable.

This guide covers the cited PS5 Pro targets, PC settings, controller sensitivity, remapping limits, hardware requirements, and fixes for common frame-pacing and input problems. Phantom Blade Zero is a timing-sensitive action game, so consistent response is usually more useful than a sharper but slower picture.

Which PS5 or PS5 Pro mode should you use?

Use Performance unless you specifically have the display and preference that make another mode worthwhile. The cited comparison assigns Performance an upscaled 2K image at 60 FPS, Balanced an upscaled 4K image at 40 FPS, and Quality native 4K at 30 FPS.

Performance: the default for combat

Performance is the safest recommendation for parries, dodges and camera corrections because its cited target is 60 FPS. The image is reconstructed to an upscaled 2K output rather than rendered at native 4K, but the higher update rate gives controls more frequent response opportunities and makes motion easier to follow.

  • On-the-Go Convenience: With an integrated handle and lightweight design (2.8 lbs), our lap desk is portable for travel or moving around the house, offering flexibility in any space.

Choose this mode on a standard 60Hz television, a 120Hz display, or whenever a missed timing window is more frustrating than softer fine detail. It is also the appropriate starting point if you are unsure which mode your display supports.

Balanced: the PS5 Pro compromise

Balanced targets upscaled 4K at 40 FPS. It is the middle option for players who want more image detail than Performance without accepting Quality’s 30 FPS target.

The cited guide recommends a 120Hz display with variable refresh rate for Balanced. A 40 FPS signal fits cleanly into a 120Hz refresh cycle, while VRR helps the display follow small fluctuations. Balanced is unavailable on non-Pro PS5 hardware, so a base PS5 cannot use this as a compromise mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your screen is 60Hz only, Balanced’s 40 FPS target does not receive the same presentation advantage described for 120Hz VRR. In that case, Performance is generally the more useful choice for action, while Quality remains the image-first option.

Quality: the visual-showcase mode

Quality targets native 4K at 30 FPS. Use it for environmental detail, screenshots, or slower exploration when maximum spatial resolution matters more than camera and control response.

Thirty frames per second is a deliberate trade-off, not a sign that the console is malfunctioning. If combat feels less immediate after selecting Quality, switch back to Performance rather than compensating with extreme sensitivity changes.

What does ray tracing do on PS5 Pro?

Treat the PS5 Pro ray-tracing option as an image-quality toggle, not as a guaranteed performance upgrade. The cited comparison reported no observed performance change with the option in its test, but that is a reviewer observation rather than a universal benchmark for every scene, patch or display.

Enable it only after deciding which frame-rate mode you prefer. If the resulting reflections or lighting are not worth any possible image or pacing trade-off, leave it off.

How do you choose a mode for your display and priorities?

Match the mode to the complete setup rather than to the console name alone. The three choices differ in response, resolution and display requirements.

Priority Use Reason
Most responsive combat Performance 60 FPS cited target with upscaled 2K output
Higher resolution with smoother-than-30 presentation Balanced on PS5 Pro 40 FPS upscaled 4K target, recommended with 120Hz VRR
Maximum console image detail Quality Native 4K at a 30 FPS target
Standard 60Hz screen and uncertain support Performance Avoids relying on the 120Hz requirement associated with Balanced

Also check the television or monitor’s input settings. A console mode cannot create 120Hz or VRR if the display, HDMI input, cable path or system setting does not support it. If Balanced is missing, first verify that the console is a PS5 Pro and that the display is configured for its high-refresh input; on non-Pro hardware, the mode is not available according to the cited guide.

What are the best PC graphics settings for Phantom Blade Zero?

Start with the game’s recommended preset, then tune for a stable base frame rate. The order matters: an unstable native frame rate will remain unstable after frame generation, and a low-resolution output will not be rescued by adding every expensive effect.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Apply the recommended preset. This establishes a sensible baseline for the installed GPU before individual settings are changed.
  2. Select the right upscaler. Use DLSS on compatible NVIDIA hardware. Use FSR on AMD hardware or XeSS on Intel hardware. TSR is also exposed by the PC version and can serve as an alternative when the platform-specific upscaler is unavailable. Start at Balanced rather than jumping immediately to Performance or DLAA.
  3. Set a frame-rate cap. Cap to the display refresh rate when the system can sustain it, or use 60 FPS for steadier pacing on a lower-refresh setup. A cap prevents the renderer from constantly chasing an unstable maximum.
  4. Reduce distracting image effects. Lower motion blur and film grain for a cleaner view during sword exchanges. Set camera shake according to comfort; there is no requirement to keep the default effect.
  5. Leave NVIDIA Reflex on automatic. The in-game description says automatic mode turns Reflex on whenever DLSS Frame Generation or V-Sync is enabled. Keep that behavior unless you have a specific latency-management reason to change it.
  6. Delay frame generation. Leave Frame Generation off until the ordinary, non-generated frame rate is already stable. Generated frames increase displayed smoothness, but they do not replace the consistency or input response of the base frames.
  7. Disable ray tracing for a performance-first profile. Ray Tracing Quality may be greyed out during play. Change it from the title screen and restart the game for the setting to take effect.
  8. Tune heavy settings first if needed. Reduce shadows, reflections and view distance before cutting material or character texture quality. Leave High-Quality Hair off when chasing gameplay performance; the cited guide says it affects cinematics rather than gameplay.

Which upscaler should NVIDIA, AMD and Intel players use?

DLSS is the first choice for a compatible NVIDIA GPU, while FSR is the straightforward AMD choice and XeSS is the platform-appropriate option for Intel hardware. Balanced is the recommended starting quality because it preserves more detail than a Performance preset while leaving the renderer headroom.

DLAA prioritizes native-resolution image quality and therefore is not the first setting to try when the goal is steadier frame pacing. Move from Balanced to Performance only when the base rate cannot hold the desired cap, and move toward a higher-quality option only after confirming that the hardware has headroom.

When should you enable frame generation?

Enable it only after the base rate is consistent in the areas where you fight and move the camera. DLSS Frame Generation also requires compatible RTX hardware, a recent graphics driver and V-Sync turned off, according to the cited PC guide.

Frame generation is best viewed as a second-stage smoothness feature. It inserts additional displayed frames; it cannot fix a CPU or GPU that is already delivering irregular base frames, and it can make controls feel less direct when the underlying rate is too low.

Why is ray tracing unavailable in the graphics menu?

The setting can be locked while a session is running. Return to the title screen, change Ray Tracing Quality there, and restart as requested by the game. If it remains unavailable, check that the GPU and driver support the feature and that the selected preset has not disabled it.

What PC hardware does the game require?

The published S-Game requirements specify an SSD, 16 GB of RAM and substantial free storage. They describe targets with upscaling, so the figures are not promises of native-resolution performance.

Tier Processor graphics requirement Memory Published target Storage
Minimum GTX 1660 6 GB or RX 5500 XT 8 GB 16 GB RAM 1080p at 30 FPS with upscaling SSD; 145 GB installed; at least 300 GB free for preload processing
Recommended RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or RX 6700 XT 12 GB 16 GB RAM 1440p at 60 FPS with upscaling SSD; 145 GB installed; at least 300 GB free for preload processing

Update the graphics driver before launch, as the requirements guidance recommends. The 300 GB figure is free space for preload processing, not the final installed size; the published installed size is 145 GB. Keep the game on an SSD because an SSD is listed as required.

Settings cannot turn hardware below the published minimum into a system that meets the recommended 1440p/60 target. If the game is stuttering despite a sensible preset, check storage, driver version, background load and thermal limits before adding frame generation or raising image quality.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What controller settings should you use?

Use the documented defaults first: horizontal camera sensitivity 50 and vertical camera sensitivity 50 on the game’s 1–100 scale. Adjust in small steps only after you identify whether the problem is slow camera movement, overshoot or difficulty tracking targets.

Option Starting value When to change it
Horizontal camera sensitivity 50 Raise for faster turning or lower for finer control
Vertical camera sensitivity 50 Raise or lower independently if vertical aim feels mismatched
X-axis inversion Off Turn on only if you already use inverted horizontal controls
Y-axis inversion Off Turn on only if you already use inverted vertical controls
Controller vibration On Disable for comfort or battery-life reasons
Movement vibration On Disable if movement feedback becomes distracting

There is no universally correct sensitivity value. A faster setting can help a player who routinely runs out of turn range, while a slower setting can reduce accidental over-rotation during a parry. Change one axis by a few points, play long enough to encounter normal combat, and then decide whether another adjustment is warranted.

What does DualSense add on PS5?

The official PlayStation product information confirms vibration and trigger-effect support for the DualSense wireless controller in the PS5 version. Keep both vibration options enabled if you want those tactile cues; turn them off when they interfere with concentration, comfort or battery life.

Does Phantom Blade Zero support individual button remapping?

A current review reports three controller presets but no individual button remapping. You can therefore choose among the available layouts and adjust sensitivity, inversion and feedback options, but you should not expect a full per-button remapping editor.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a preset does not suit a physical need, use the console’s system-level accessibility controls where available rather than assuming the game menu offers a hidden remap screen. Check the preset descriptions before changing combat habits.

Which comfort and accessibility options are worth changing?

Camera shake, motion blur, subtitles, control reminders, tutorial reminders, vibration and difficulty can all be adjusted to match the way you play. These options affect readability and comfort more than raw frame rate.

  • Camera shake: Reduce or disable it if impacts make the camera hard to read.
  • Motion blur: Lower it for a sharper view while turning or dodging.
  • Subtitles: Enable them when dialogue clarity matters or audio conditions are poor.
  • Control and tutorial reminders: Keep them on while learning, then disable them to reduce interface clutter.
  • Difficulty: Choose the level that lets you practice timing without treating the default as mandatory.
  • Vibration: Keep it for tactile feedback, or disable it for comfort and battery reasons.

The game supports pausing and manual saving according to the cited product and review information. Use those options when adjusting settings between encounters rather than changing several variables during a difficult fight.

How do you troubleshoot stutter, blur or delayed controls?

Fix the largest source of instability first: confirm the base frame rate, then tune image quality and advanced effects. The following branches keep changes measurable without claiming a universal GPU result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If frame pacing is uneven on PC

  1. Turn Frame Generation off.
  2. Apply the recommended preset and select Balanced upscaling.
  3. Set a cap at 60 FPS or at the display refresh rate.
  4. Lower shadows, reflections and view distance.
  5. Verify that the game is installed on an SSD and that the graphics driver is current.

If the picture is too soft

Move from Performance upscaling to Balanced, or use the platform-appropriate higher-quality option if the base frame rate has headroom. Avoid jumping straight to DLAA unless the GPU can sustain the desired cap without sacrificing combat responsiveness.

If controls feel delayed after enabling extra features

Return to the stable baseline: disable Frame Generation, keep Reflex on automatic, check the V-Sync requirement for DLSS Frame Generation, and use a frame cap. On console, switch from Quality or Balanced to Performance and compare the response before changing sensitivity.

If the game looks sharp but combat is hard to read

Lower motion blur and camera shake, then review both camera sensitivity axes separately. Visual clarity and camera speed are independent; increasing sensitivity will not correct a blurred or shaking image.

How were these settings prioritized?

The recommendations rank responsiveness first because combat timing is central to the game, then image quality, display compatibility, stability and comfort. Console mode figures come from the cited PS5 comparison; PC upscaling, frame-generation, Reflex and menu behavior come from the cited PC settings guide; storage and GPU targets come from S-Game’s published 2026 requirements; controller and DualSense capabilities come from the official product information and a current review.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because the game is newly released, patches, drivers and display firmware may change menu behavior or performance. Treat the published targets as guidance for choosing a starting profile, not as a guarantee that every GPU or scene will produce the same frame rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a 60Hz television use the PS5 Pro Balanced mode properly?

Balanced is described for a 120Hz VRR display because its target is 40 FPS. On a 60Hz screen, Performance is usually the clearer action-focused choice, while Quality remains available for a 30 FPS image-first presentation.

Does frame generation make a low frame rate feel like native 60 FPS?

No. It adds generated frames to the displayed image but does not increase the consistency of the underlying frames or remove the latency of a weak base rate. Stabilize the ordinary frame rate before enabling it.

Why did my graphics settings change after a patch or driver update?

Launch-sensitive games can alter defaults, lock conditions or available options after patches and driver changes. Recheck the preset, upscaler, frame cap and ray-tracing state after an update instead of assuming the previous profile was retained.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is an SSD necessary if I have enough free hard-drive space?

The published PC requirements list an SSD as required, separate from the 145 GB installed-size figure and the 300 GB free-space allowance for preload processing. A large mechanical drive alone does not satisfy that stated storage requirement.
