How progression works in Pets Survivors
The Steam listing describes a survival roguelike in which you face waves of enemies, defeat monsters for experience, and level up during a run. Each level-up presents a choice to upgrade a weapon, special ability, or pet. Those choices shape that run’s build and can create different playstyles.
Progression has two layers: upgrades selected during a run affect its build, while permanent upgrades can make you stronger across runs. The listing does not specify the permanent upgrades’ costs, effects, or purchase order.
Build a compatible pet, weapon, and ability combination
Think of “team building” as making your selected pet, weapon, and abilities complement one another. The official description encourages experimentation and finding synergies, but it does not identify specific combinations as best or confirm that several pets fight together.

- Choose a goal for the run. Decide what you want your build to emphasize before choosing an upgrade—for example, improving your weapon, ability, or pet.
- Support that goal when you level up. When the relevant option appears, favor upgrades that reinforce your plan. If another category offers a choice that fits better, treat the build as flexible rather than forcing a mismatch.
- Notice how the combination performs. Pay attention to which choices seem to help you survive longer, then experiment with different combinations in later runs.
This is a way to make choices more coherent, not a proven build recipe: the Steam description does not publish detailed stats or comparative results for particular pets, weapons, or abilities.
Use run upgrades and permanent upgrades for different goals
Run upgrades shape the build you are making at that moment: each level-up offers a choice involving a weapon, special ability, or pet. Permanent upgrades are a separate cross-run option for becoming stronger over time.

Keep those layers distinct when deciding what to do next. A run-level choice should support the build you are trying during that run; a permanent upgrade contributes to progression beyond it. Because the listing gives no costs, effects, or priority order for permanent upgrades, there is no documented basis for recommending one purchase first.

- Established: You gain experience by defeating monsters, level up during runs, and choose among weapon, special-ability, and pet upgrades.
- Established: Different choices can produce different builds, and the game’s description invites experimentation with synergies.
- Not established: A universally strongest pet, weapon, ability, or combination; the best build for a particular stage or difficulty; or an optimal permanent-upgrade order.
So treat each run as a chance to test a compatible combination rather than follow a supposed meta. The official listing does not provide the stats or tested comparisons needed to rank builds or promise a faster time to progress.
