Choose Chromatic first if your visual tests are built around Storybook stories; evaluate Percy if you need its documented range of integrations or BrowserStack’s promoted real-device coverage. Both connect visual testing to frontend development workflows, but their usage units differ, so the headline free-plan allowances are not directly comparable. For Indian teams, confirm billing, tax, payment and data-residency terms with each vendor rather than assuming a US-dollar listing is your local quote.
What Percy and Chromatic do
Percy, offered by BrowserStack, captures visual changes and supports review in a CI/CD workflow. BrowserStack describes reviewing changes with every commit. Its documentation lists integrations including Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Puppeteer, Ember, Storybook, React Styleguidist, Gatsby, Jekyll, Appium, Tricentis Tosca and Maestro. BrowserStack also states that Percy can test across 20,000+ real devices; that is the vendor’s coverage claim, not an independently verified measurement. BrowserStack Percy documentation
Chromatic turns Storybook stories into visual tests: its service builds and publishes Storybook, then runs tests in cloud browsers. Its documentation also covers Vitest, Playwright and Cypress. The documented review flow captures baselines, lets teams accept or reject visual changes, and reports status checks on pull requests. Chromatic documentation Chromatic quickstart
Both are cloud visual-testing services for frontend workflows. Neither should be selected solely from a list of integrations: verify that the exact framework, test architecture and review process your team uses are supported on the plan you intend to buy.

Which fits your team’s testing workflow?
Choose Chromatic to evaluate first for Storybook-led component work
If your team already maintains stories for components or a design system, Chromatic offers a direct route from those stories to visual tests and baseline review. This can make it a natural first trial for teams whose key question is whether a component changed visually, rather than how a full application journey looks across many device conditions.
Evaluate Percy for broader documented integrations or real-device needs
Percy may be a better candidate when the test suite is built around a framework in its documented integration list, or when real desktop and mobile device coverage is a requirement. Treat BrowserStack’s 20,000+ device figure as a vendor statement. Identify the specific browser, operating-system and device combinations important to your users, then confirm the available matrix and plan limits.

Do not assume one has exclusive support for a framework
Both vendors document Storybook, Playwright and Cypress workflows. Compare how each fits your existing setup: what produces the test states, how baselines are reviewed, how pull-request checks behave, and who needs to approve changes. For an end-to-end application, trial representative pages; for a component library, trial representative stories.
How their pricing and usage units compare
The following are vendor-published listings observed on October 3, 2026. They are not Indian localized quotes, and pricing or allowances can change.

Why 5,000 does not mean the same thing on both services
Percy defines a screenshot as a page or component rendered at a particular browser and responsive width. Its example counts two pages tested on two browsers and three widths as 12 screenshots, even though the interface presents two snapshots. Chromatic’s prices are expressed as billed snapshots, and its TurboSnap feature is described as reducing billed usage by testing affected files. The units and accounting rules are different; do not compare 5,000 screenshots with 5,000 billed snapshots as equal capacity.

Estimate actual use before picking a plan
- Count the pages or stories that run in CI, not just the number of features in the application.
- Multiply by the browser and viewport matrix your team actually needs. For Percy, each browser-and-width rendering contributes to its screenshot count.
- Estimate how often the suite runs, including pull requests, commits and any scheduled runs.
- For Chromatic, account for which files are affected and how its billed snapshot rules apply; verify the current TurboSnap behavior and plan terms.
- Check overages, add-ons and current allowances directly with each vendor before committing.
Chromatic’s comparison page claims TurboSnap can produce up to 85% faster test runs and average 41% cost savings. These are Chromatic’s own comparative claims, not independent benchmark results. Chromatic comparison page
What Indian teams should confirm before purchase
The vendor pages reviewed do not establish India-specific rupee pricing, GST or invoice treatment, accepted payment methods, or data-residency terms. Ask Percy and Chromatic for the terms that apply to your purchasing entity in India. Do not treat a dollar-denominated plan as the final local price or infer local availability from the listed plans.

- Ask whether the quoted amount is billed in USD or another currency and how foreign-exchange charges are handled.
- Confirm applicable taxes, invoice details and payment methods with the vendor or its billing team.
- Ask where screenshots, baselines and related project data are stored and what residency options, if any, apply.
- Verify procurement, retention and access-control requirements against your organization’s policies.
How to make a fair pilot
- Select representative UI. For a component team, use a set of real Storybook stories; for an application team, use the pages and workflows most likely to produce meaningful visual changes.
- Use the same change set. Run both services against the same code changes and comparable browser or viewport coverage where their plans allow.
- Exercise the review flow. Have developers, QA and designers review expected and unexpected changes, accept intentional updates, and inspect pull-request status behavior.
- Record operational friction. Note setup effort, test reliability, baseline maintenance, feedback clarity and how long a representative CI run takes. Do not extrapolate a short pilot into a universal performance claim.
- Model the bill using each service’s units. Apply Percy’s screenshot permutations and Chromatic’s billed snapshot rules to your own run frequency and change patterns; include overage terms where applicable.
- Resolve procurement questions. Get written confirmation of India-specific billing, tax, payment and residency terms that matter to your organization.
ScreenshotNeo as a separate screenshot API option
Percy and Chromatic are visual-testing and review workflows; ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers, so it is an alternative to consider when the need is programmatic page capture rather than a direct replacement for their visual-baseline review systems. ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It can accept cookie-consent banners and remove 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be disabled. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents: take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf. ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo has 1,000 shots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Every feature is on every plan. If your task is visual regression review in pull requests, assess Percy and Chromatic for that workflow; if you need a screenshot endpoint or agent-driven capture, try ScreenshotNeo.
