Is Arturs Silovs starting against Montreal?
His start is not confirmed in the available game-day preview. NHL.com’s August 22, 2026 season preview called Silovs likely to start the season as Pittsburgh’s primary goalie, but that was a preseason projection about his season role—not confirmation for this specific game. Montreal’s preview directs fans to its social accounts closer to puck drop for the official lineup. Follow the Penguins’ game-day updates and the Canadiens’ preview for the latest status.
Silovs’ role and recent numbers
Silovs signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract to remain with Pittsburgh on July 5, 2026. NHL.com’s August season preview described him as likely to start the season as the primary starter, while also naming Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist as competition. The report provides context, but it does not establish the current depth-chart order or who gets this start.

Silovs’ high-pressure experience
Silovs has handled significant games earlier in his career. A Pittsburgh report says he entered Vancouver’s 2023 first-round playoff series against Nashville after Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith were injured, then recorded a shutout in Game 6. In the second round against Edmonton, he made a career-high 42 saves in Game 3. He was also named best goaltender at the 2023 World Championship while helping Latvia win bronze. These accomplishments describe past experience, not current form.
