Parrot043 GCam 8.4 is a real community-made Google Camera port based on Google Camera 8.4.300, but it is not an official Google app and no single APK is guaranteed to work on every Android phone. The safest approach is to match a Parrot043 build and XML configuration to your exact model, Android version and Camera2 API support. The V4.1 file dated October 5, 2025 is the newest entry found in one community archive, not a verified official “latest” release.

Quick verdict

  • Real port: Yes. Parrot043 is associated with modified GCam 8.4.300 builds.
  • Official Google software: No. The APK is distributed outside Google Play and is not supported or endorsed by Google.
  • Universal compatibility: No. Results depend on the phone, Android release, chipset, camera drivers, Camera2 API and package variant.
  • Best starting point: Android 10 or newer with a known GCam community for your model, although individual builds may behave differently.
  • Best practice: Test the APK with default settings first, then use an XML made for the same phone and build.

What Parrot043 GCam 8.4 is

“GCam” is the community name for Google Camera ports. Parrot043’s version modifies the Google Camera 8.4.300 base so it can run on selected non-Pixel phones. It is an APK rather than an app delivered through Google Play. Search results may call it “GCAM,” “Google Camera port,” or “Parrot043 GCam”; those terms can refer to different builds, so check the exact filename and package before installing.

The original 8.4.300 release was documented on October 10, 2022 by AndroidSage. That page is useful historical evidence, not proof that its old download links or Android support claims remain current.

Which Parrot043 APK should you choose?

There is no independently verified official Parrot043 download site in the available listings. Treat Telegram posts, file-hosting pages and archives as third-party distribution unless the file’s source and signature can be verified.

Compatibility: check the phone, not just Android

AndroidSage’s 2022 article mentioned Android 13, 12, 11, 10, Android 9 Pie and Android 8 Oreo. That was a build-era claim, not a promise for current devices. The V2.3 community listing says Android 10+, which is likewise specific to that listing.

Use this checklist before downloading

  • Record the exact phone model and Android version.
  • Identify the chipset. Snapdragon phones often have broader GCam support, but model-specific testing matters; MediaTek, Exynos, Kirin and Unisoc phones can also work and can also have restricted camera access.
  • Check whether Camera2 API is enabled and whether third-party apps can access the cameras you need.
  • Find a recommendation or XML for the exact model, preferably for the same Parrot build.
  • Decide whether you require the front camera, ultrawide/telephoto lenses, reliable stabilization, 4K video or social-app integration. A port may support only the main camera or still be weaker than the stock app for video.

Android 14, 15 or newer phones may run an old 8.4 port, but preview, storage and auxiliary-lens problems are more likely when the port has not been adapted to the newer release. The GCam Handbook explains why both hardware and Android configuration affect compatibility.

Features you may get

Depending on the phone and configuration, Parrot’s 8.4.300 builds are associated with HDR+, HDR+ Enhanced, Night Sight, Astrophotography, Portrait, Google Lens, Motion features such as Action Pan and Long Exposure, manual controls, auxiliary-camera selection and video frame-rate or stabilization controls. A 2022 report also described newer 8.6-era features being incorporated into the 8.4.300 mod.

These are available capabilities, not guaranteed results. Device-specific changelogs mention macro and additional-lens controls, focus-distance settings, Lens-menu activation and Movement stabilization in V1.4 (changelog). V1.5 notes include manual white-balance changes, Android 13 language selection, additional-lens vibration feedback and a 32-second maximum astrophotography shutter setting (changelog). Earlier V1.3 notes describe auxiliary-lens, AF/AE-lock and Pixel 6 AWB changes (changelog). A feature can be disabled, unstable or absent on your model.

Download and install safely

Before installation

  1. Back up important photos and any working GCam configuration.
  2. Download one clearly identified APK from a source you can evaluate; do not collect several unidentified “fix” files.
  3. Scan the APK with a reputable antivirus or multi-engine service. If a published hash, package name or file size is available, compare it with the listing.
  4. Keep Google Play Protect enabled. Google says it checks apps installed outside Play and can warn about, disable or remove harmful apps (Play Protect guidance).

Install the APK

  1. Open the file from Downloads or your file manager.
  2. If Android blocks it, open the prompt for the browser or file manager and enable Allow from this source. On Pixel software, the control is under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps; other manufacturers use different labels (Google’s installation instructions).
  3. Return to the APK and tap Install.
  4. Launch GCam and grant camera access. Grant microphone only for video and photos/media access only when needed to save or view images.
  5. Test the main rear camera, then Night Sight, front camera, video and other lenses separately. Do not load an XML yet.
  6. After testing, turn off Allow from this source for the browser or file manager.

Phones enrolled in enterprise management, using Advanced Protection or applying newer Android security restrictions may block sideloading or require an additional confirmation. Google documents these restrictions at Advanced Protection.

Using XML configuration files

An XML is an optional tuning profile for exposure, color, noise reduction, camera IDs and processing. It is not universal. Use one made for your exact phone, Android version and preferably the same Parrot package. An XML from another model can cause crashes, black previews, unusable exposure or broken lenses.

  1. Install and test the APK with default settings.
  2. Get a model-specific configuration from a reputable GCam community, using the GCam Hub recommendations as a starting reference.
  3. Follow that build’s folder instructions; paths differ by package name and Android version, and some ports require you to create the folder manually.
  4. Load the XML, restart the app if requested, and keep a copy of the default setup so you can remove the configuration if behavior worsens.

Troubleshooting and rollback

“App not installed”

  • Check free storage and download the file again from the same trusted source.
  • Uninstall a conflicting GCam package when its signature or package name clashes with the new APK.
  • Try a model-specific package variant; do not install a random fixer APK.

The app crashes immediately

  1. Open Settings → Apps → GCam → Storage (wording varies).
  2. Tap Clear storage or Clear data and relaunch with defaults.
  3. Remove any XML, then try the previous Parrot build or another maintainer’s build.
  4. If crashes continue, uninstall the port and use the stock camera.

Black viewfinder or black photos

Switch to the main rear camera, disable auxiliary lenses, clear app data, remove the XML and try another package variant. Camera API paths, RAW/YUV handling and vendor libraries commonly determine whether a particular lens works.

Front camera, saving or viewing problems

Front-camera failure can result from camera IDs, package type or vendor privacy restrictions; compatibility is not guaranteed. If images save but the in-app viewer fails, check the GCam Hub guidance and install Google Photos when recommended for that build. The Handbook notes that Android version, hardware and configuration can all be responsible.

Play Protect warning

Do not simply disable Play Protect. Recheck the source, scan the APK and inspect requested permissions. Google warns that harmful apps may pressure users to change settings or enable restricted access (restricted-settings guidance). Abandon the installation if a camera app requests SMS, contacts, accessibility, device administration, notification access, a VPN, a password or a separate activation app.

When another camera is a better choice

Option Choose it when Trade-off
Stock camera You need dependable video, fast lens switching, manufacturer processing and guaranteed updates May offer less Pixel-style computational photography
BSG GCam 8.4 Your model has a BSG-specific guide or XML Different package variants and settings; not automatically compatible with Parrot configs
BigKaka AGC The GCam Hub lists AGC support for your phone Requires its own build and configuration
Shamim SGCAM A phone-specific Shamim recommendation exists Device support remains model-dependent
Official Google Camera You use a Pixel and want Google-supported distribution The full Pixel app is generally unavailable on non-Pixel phones

For BSG alternatives, see the APKMirror 8.4.400 listing. AGC and Shamim recommendations are collected in the GCam Hub stable list.

Bottom line

Parrot043 GCam 8.4.300 is worth trying on a phone with strong GCam support, especially when a device-specific recommendation and XML are available. Treat V1.5, V2.3 and archive V4.1 entries as community builds, verify the file before installing, keep Play Protect on, and be prepared to clear data, remove a bad config or return to the stock camera. “Stable” describes a particular build-and-device combination—not every Android phone.
