Short answer: choose PagePeeker if you mainly need managed website thumbnails and its call-based plans fit your display and caching needs. Choose Browserless if you need a configurable screenshot endpoint inside a broader browser-automation workflow, including full-page or element captures and raw HTML input. Neither vendor’s published material establishes that it renders more accurately or reliably on your particular sites, so test representative pages before committing.
How PagePeeker and Browserless differ
These services solve overlapping but not identical problems. PagePeeker presents itself as a managed website-thumbnail service: its product pages describe creating and embedding thumbnails, with plan-based API call allowances. Browserless offers a screenshot endpoint as one part of a broader browser automation service, alongside APIs for rendered content, scraping, PDFs, and browser functions.
That distinction matters more than a simple feature count. If your application needs conventional thumbnails, PagePeeker’s service-oriented model may be a natural fit. If you need to tune browser rendering or combine screenshots with other browser tasks, Browserless offers more directly documented capture controls. Neither description alone tells you how either service will handle your target pages.
Compare the controls and workflow you need
| Decision point | PagePeeker | Browserless |
|---|---|---|
| Product shape | Managed website thumbnail and screenshot service; the vendor describes automatic scaling and embedding. PagePeeker product page | A screenshot endpoint within a broader browser automation platform. Browserless screenshot documentation |
| Capture controls | Premium customizations listed by the vendor include dimensions, full-page capture, compression, overlays, wait times, and CDN upload. Basic and Advanced do not list full-length screenshots in the pricing table. PagePeeker pricing | The REST API documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP, full-page and viewport capture, element and clip controls, raw HTML input, and script/style injection. Browserless screenshot documentation |
| Sessions and interaction | The reviewed public product material does not establish session persistence behavior; ask the vendor about login or multi-step interaction requirements. | REST calls are single-action and stateless. The vendor says persistent multi-step workflows require browser-session or BrowserQL approaches. Browserless REST overview |
| Usage accounting | Plans use monthly API call allowances. The FAQ says calls include displaying an existing thumbnail and checking availability, not only creating a new render. PagePeeker FAQ | Pricing uses units, with concurrency, session duration, and overage details on the pricing page. Compare those definitions with your workload rather than treating a unit as equivalent to a PagePeeker API call. Browserless pricing |
| Bot defenses | The cited public material does not establish how the service handles bot-protected target sites. | Browserless warns that target-site defenses can produce blank pages, CAPTCHAs, or access-denied captures; documented mitigations are not guarantees. PagePeeker’s FAQ says unused monthly calls do not roll over and that pay-as-you-go may be discussed for customers exceeding five million calls a month; check current billing terms with the vendor. Its pricing table is the source for the plan-specific cache periods above. Do not compare the headline quotas without including cached-image displays, availability checks, Browserless unit consumption, concurrency, and the features your workflow requires.
Which service should you try first?
Try ScreenshotNeo first if clean screenshots and predictable billing matter
ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Its responses identify page verdict and billing status, and bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. It may suit a developer who wants clean captures, visible billing outcomes, or an MCP tool for AI-agent workflows.
Choose PagePeeker for thumbnail-first managed delivery
PagePeeker is worth evaluating when your primary output is a conventional website thumbnail and its available dimensions, cache behavior, and API-call accounting match your product. The Basic and Advanced rows list thumbnails up to 480×360 and do not list full-length or mobile/tablet screenshots; check the current plan table if those are requirements. Premium’s customizations and price need confirmation from the vendor.
Choose Browserless for configurable rendering or adjacent browser tasks
Browserless is a better candidate when the screenshot endpoint’s documented controls—such as full-page or selector capture, raw HTML input, and script/style injection—fit your implementation, or when screenshots belong alongside other browser automation tasks. For a logged-in or multi-step workflow, its stateless REST endpoint is not the same as a persistent browser session; evaluate the browser-session or BrowserQL approach instead.

Test the pages that matter
There is no established head-to-head accuracy, speed, or uptime result for these vendors. Before selecting a service, test the same representative pages with your actual viewport, output format, wait strategy, and expected traffic. Include a dynamic page, a long or lazy-loaded page, and any page with bot defenses that you are permitted to access. Inspect the returned image, dimensions, missing content, and billing behavior; use vendor claims as plan information, not as proof of your own results.
Take a screenshot with the Browserless REST API
Browserless documents the endpoint as an authenticated POST /screenshot request. Its documentation summarizes the method this way: “Send a POST request to the /screenshot endpoint with a URL and optional Puppeteer-style screenshot options.” The token is passed as an authentication query parameter. Keep it on a trusted server, not in public browser code, source control, or logs. The service returns image bytes with a content type selected by the requested format. See the official screenshot API documentation for the current request schema and deployment-specific endpoint details.
Example request shape
Use the endpoint URL and token format for your Browserless account. The body below illustrates the documented JSON request shape; confirm exact accepted option names and account endpoint in the current docs.

For an element or clipped region, use the corresponding selector or clip options documented by Browserless. To render supplied markup rather than a live site, send raw HTML in place of a URL; the documentation says not to include both in the same request. Custom scripts and styles can be injected before capture. Treat the endpoint schema as authoritative because supported options can vary by API version.
Long pages and lazy-loaded content
For pages that load content as you scroll, Browserless recommends scrolling before capture and combining scrollPage with fullPage. Validate the resulting image dimensions and storage cost: full-page images can be much larger than viewport captures, and an oversized capture may not suit your downstream thumbnail or storage limits.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo makes a screenshot with one GET request. For example, this cURL call requests a WebP image of a page:

The Browserless image is blank, blocked, or shows a CAPTCHA
Browserless says target-site bot detection may result in blank pages, CAPTCHAs, 403/access-denied pages, or missing elements. Confirm the target is reachable in the intended environment and inspect the rendered result rather than assuming a successful HTTP request means the page rendered correctly. Browserless documents an /unblock API and proxy options as possible mitigations, not universal fixes; see its REST overview and screenshot documentation.

The capture misses content near the bottom
Lazy-loaded elements may not exist until the page is scrolled. Follow Browserless’s guidance to scroll before combining scrollPage with fullPage, then inspect the output dimensions and final image.
The request is rejected when sending markup
Browserless documents raw HTML input as an alternative to a URL, not a field to combine with one. Send one input form per request and check the current screenshot API schema for its exact property names.

A multi-step or logged-in flow does not preserve state
Browserless REST calls are stateless single actions. If a workflow depends on navigation, interaction, and then capture within a persistent session, use the vendor’s browser-session or BrowserQL approaches and confirm that they cover your use case.
Costs do not match the number of new renders
With PagePeeker, displaying a cached thumbnail or checking availability can count as an API call according to its FAQ. Unused monthly calls do not roll over. With Browserless, compare your observed unit use and concurrency with the current plan terms; do not assume one screenshot equals one PagePeeker call or one Browserless unit.

Can PagePeeker capture a full-page screenshot?
Its pricing table lists full-page capture as a Premium customization and does not list full-length screenshots on Basic or Advanced. Verify current availability and limits with PagePeeker.
Are PagePeeker’s rendering times a benchmark against Browserless?
No. The 10–20, 5–15, and under-5-second ranges are PagePeeker’s plan-table estimates for Basic, Advanced, and Premium, respectively. They are not independent measurements or a head-to-head comparison.
Does Browserless guarantee it can screenshot any website?
No. Its documentation warns that target-site bot defenses can block or alter captures, and its mitigations are not guarantees.
