You can use an OVHcloud VPS to send prerecorded bhajan audio or video to YouTube Live, but the VPS is not a ready-made broadcasting service. You must secure and maintain the server, install and supervise a playback/encoder setup, provide a reliable network path, meet YouTube’s live-stream eligibility rules, and have rights to the recordings and visuals. This guide walks through that self-managed approach and its trade-offs.
What you need before you start
- An eligible YouTube channel: YouTube requires a verified channel that has not been restricted from live streaming during the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guide. Check your channel’s eligibility before configuring the VPS. - A bhajan feed: Decide whether you will send audio with a visual, a prepared video playlist, or another prerecorded format. The playback and encoding workload depends on that choice.
- Rights to the material: A song being devotional, traditional, or widely available does not by itself establish that a particular recording, arrangement, performance, or visual is cleared for streaming. A VPS that remains powered on does not, on its own, ensure that the stream remains live. The playback process, encoder, network connection, YouTube ingestion, and recovery setup all need attention.
Choose a VPS without guessing at a minimum size
There is no tested minimum VPS size established for a particular bhajan playback and encoding stack in this guide. Requirements depend on whether the VPS only sends audio, plays a prepared video, or performs video encoding, as well as the media format and chosen software. Do not treat an advertised plan as proof that a specific workload will run reliably.

Secure and prepare the server
Provision an operating system you can administer and follow OVHcloud’s guidance for its specific image. Before changing remote-access or firewall settings, preserve a recovery path so an incorrect rule does not lock you out.

- Connect using the access details provided for the VPS. Confirm that you can log in and perform administrative tasks with the operating system’s supported method.
- Update the operating system. Apply the security updates appropriate to the selected distribution and confirm the server still accepts administrative access.
- Harden remote access and network exposure. Use OVHcloud’s operating-system-specific SSH and firewall guidance. Consider tools such as fail2ban where appropriate, and expose only the services needed for administration and streaming.
- Plan backups and recovery. Know what is backed up, how to restore it, and how you would regain access if a firewall or SSH change goes wrong. Keep the media and configuration you need to rebuild available separately where appropriate.

Install and configure a playback and encoder workflow
The software depends on the feed you want to send: audio-only bhajans, a static-image presentation, prepared video files, or a playlist. Choose a playback and encoder stack that supports your media and can send a continuous stream to YouTube. No particular FFmpeg or OBS installation or command has been tested here, so use the software’s current documentation for installation and configuration rather than assuming a command will fit every server and file.

- Prepare the media and playlist. Verify file paths, playback order, audio levels, video dimensions if applicable, and whether the end of the playlist should loop. Check that each item is one you are entitled to stream.
- Install the chosen playback/encoder software. Follow its instructions for your operating system and confirm it can read and play the media locally on the VPS.
- Get the current YouTube ingestion credentials. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or select the stream, and copy the server URL and stream key shown in its encoder settings. YouTube can change or provide credentials according to the stream configuration, so use the current values displayed there.
- Prefer RTMPS where your encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP sent over TLS/SSL. Select the RTMPS server URL provided for your stream, rather than assuming a URL from an old tutorial is current. YouTube: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it in scripts, screenshots, logs, or support messages. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s current live settings and update the encoder.
- Set a recovery plan for the process. Configure suitable process supervision and alerts for the software you chose. A restart policy can help after a process exits, but it cannot fix an unavailable network, bad media, expired credentials, or a YouTube-side interruption. These implementation choices must be matched to your stack.
Check bandwidth, then test the full path
YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth at least 20% above the bitrate of the stream and warns that network disruptions can break a broadcast. Apply that margin to the actual outgoing bitrate and check the VPS network path, not just a plan’s advertised port speed. YouTube: Streaming tips.
- Start with a private or otherwise appropriate test stream. Use YouTube’s preview and confirm that the encoder connects to the intended channel.
- Listen and watch from YouTube’s side. Confirm that audio is audible and continuous, visuals are correct, and playback does not freeze or end unexpectedly.
- Test playlist transitions and looping. Observe at least one transition and a full loop if practical. Check what happens when a file is missing or cannot be decoded.
- Review YouTube’s stream health and monitor over time. YouTube recommends testing encoders, checking the stream preview, and monitoring audio/video quality. Set up alerts appropriate to your server and be prepared to inspect both the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room if output stops. YouTube: YouTube live streaming tips.
- Test recovery deliberately. Confirm that your monitoring can identify a stopped process and that your recovery procedure works. A server process restart is not proof that YouTube has resumed receiving a healthy stream.
Plan sessions and archives for a 24/7 channel
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a continuous 24-hour broadcast will be saved as one complete item; confirm YouTube’s current handling for longer streams. If keeping the recordings matters, consider planned sessions or segments and verify the resulting archives before depending on them. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder.

Segmenting can make archive management more predictable, but it adds operational work: decide when streams end and restart, how the encoder reconnects, and how the playlist resumes. Test the exact schedule and recovery behavior before leaving it unattended.
