OutThink announced a $10 million seed round on 19 October 2022 to expand its enterprise human-risk-management software. AlbionVC led the financing, with Gapminder, TriplePoint Capital, Forward Partners and Innovate UK also participating. OutThink said the round brought its total funding to $11.4 million and would support technology leadership and international distribution.

What the 2022 funding announcement said

OutThink, a London-based cybersecurity software company, presented the financing as a step toward scaling a SaaS platform for managing employee-related security risk. The company said its enterprise annual recurring revenue had quadrupled in the preceding year, but it did not publish a base value or independent verification for that claim.

What OutThink’s platform was designed to do

In 2022, OutThink described its product as enterprise SaaS intended to identify, understand and manage human cybersecurity risk. Its proposition combined security-awareness activity with behavioral information and targeted interventions, rather than treating annual training as the entire solution.

  • Behavior and attitudes: the company said it sought to improve employees’ security attitudes and behaviors.
  • Machine learning and language analysis: OutThink said it used machine learning, natural language processing and applied psychology.
  • Security-stack integrations: the announcement described integrations with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Delivery channels: training could be delivered through email, Slack and Microsoft Teams, according to the company.

Those are vendor descriptions of the announced product, not independent assessments of accuracy, effectiveness or return on investment.

How OutThink describes the platform now

OutThink’s current platform overview presents a broader enterprise human risk management platform than the one outlined in the 2022 financing announcement. The following are current company descriptions; availability and positioning can change.

CyberQ A named component of the platform’s human-risk capability set.
Human risk intelligence Risk information and analysis focused on people and behavior.
Conditional access and self-remediation Controls or guided remediation linked to a person’s risk state.

The overview also describes a maturity path in which some capabilities may be future-facing. A feature appearing on the overview should therefore not automatically be read as proof that it is available in every edition or deployment.

Company-reported scale metrics

On its current platform overview, OutThink reports 100+ enterprise deployments, 10 billion behavioral data points and operations in 80+ countries. These are company-published figures; the page does not explain the methodology or provide a separate date for each metric. They should not be treated as independently audited market-share or performance measurements.

Why the round mattered to OutThink’s strategy

The financing gave OutThink capital to hire or strengthen technology leadership and pursue distribution outside its existing markets, according to the company. That strategy fits a human-risk platform that depends on integrations, behavioral data and organization-wide adoption. However, the announcement alone cannot show whether international expansion occurred at the planned pace, how the product changed as a result, or whether customer outcomes improved.

What the company’s leadership and investor said

OutThink founder and CEO Flavius Plesu said: “The idea for OutThink was born out of frustration that first generation SAT & Phishing platforms were failing – overpromising and grossly underdelivering.” The statement explains the company’s motivation and positioning; it is not an independent comparison of security-awareness or phishing products.

AlbionVC investment director Cat McDonald also expressed confidence in the team’s understanding of customer needs and progress. That is the lead investor’s view, rather than external validation of the platform’s results.

How to interpret the story as a cybersecurity buyer

OutThink’s pitch sits in the human-risk-management category: software that connects awareness training, phishing exercises, behavioral signals and interventions. When evaluating any platform in this category, buyers should ask:

  • How specifically does training personalize to a user’s observed risk?
  • Which identity, endpoint, email and security-information systems integrate with the service?
  • What risk measures are available to security and compliance teams?
  • Which intervention channels are supported, and how are employee privacy and consent handled?
  • What evidence demonstrates reduced incidents or improved behavior, rather than only training completion?
  • Which listed capabilities are generally available, limited-release, or planned for a later maturity stage?

The available material does not provide a controlled comparison with competing vendors, so it cannot support ranking OutThink against the market.

Bottom line

OutThink’s $10 million seed round was a historical financing announcement from 19 October 2022, led by AlbionVC and joined by four named participants. OutThink said it raised its cumulative funding to $11.4 million and would invest in technology and international distribution. The company now describes a wider platform spanning adaptive training, AI-assisted content and phishing simulation, threat analysis, nudges, cyber ranges, risk intelligence and remediation. Those capabilities and the company’s scale figures remain vendor-reported descriptions, not independently verified performance results.
