The Origin PC Neuron 4000X reviewed by HotHardware in April 2022 was a fast, well-built gaming desktop, but its $4,797 test price bought a very specific high-end configuration—not a timeless value verdict. Its Core i9-12900K and RTX 3080 Ti performed strongly in the reviewer’s benchmarks, while the CPU reached 95°C in a sustained stress test with the included 240mm-class liquid cooler. Treat the results and prices below as historical measurements of one machine, not as specifications or prices for today’s configurable NEURON.

What did HotHardware review?

HotHardware’s April 2022 review covered a particular NEURON 4000X configuration in a Corsair 4000 Series mid-tower. It paired Intel’s 12th-generation Core i9-12900K with an ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. The tested system cost $4,797 at the time of that review.

Component HotHardware’s 2022 sample
Processor Intel Core i9-12900K, 16 cores and 24 threads: eight performance cores and eight efficiency cores
Motherboard MSI MPG Z690 Force WiFi with DDR5
Memory 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB, two 16GB modules at 5200MHz
Primary storage 1TB Corsair MP600 CORE Gen4 SSD with Windows 11
Secondary storage 2TB Samsung 870 QVO
Graphics card ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
CPU cooler Corsair iCUE H100i Elite Capellix AIO liquid cooler; HotHardware described it as using 120mm radiator fans
Case Corsair 4000 Series mid-tower with tempered-glass front and side panels
Price as tested $4,797, as reported by HotHardware in April 2022

HotHardware also cited a historical $2,299 starting price for a lower-spec NEURON with a Core i9-11700K and GeForce RTX 3060. That was a different configuration and a 2022 price, not a current entry price or the cost of the reviewed machine. Read HotHardware’s full review and test context.

How fast was the Neuron 4000X in the review?

HotHardware placed the sample near the top of its Cinebench R20 results, at the top of its Speedometer 2.0 chart, and at the top of its PCMark 10 comparison. In 3DMark Time Spy it finished near the top. Those are positions within that review’s comparison set, not claims that this machine beats every system or remains competitive with current hardware.

In the games HotHardware tested, the RTX 3080 Ti system frequently matched or traded blows with a more expensive Falcon Northwest system equipped with an RTX 3090, including at 1440p and 4K in the titles discussed. The article cautioned that its comparisons were affected by differences in systems, operating systems, and browsers, so the results should be read as that review’s observations rather than a controlled universal ranking.

What were its temperatures, power use, and noise?

The clearest trade-off in the measurements was the CPU’s behavior under a sustained combined load. In HotHardware’s 2022 testing, Prime95 drove the i9-12900K to a peak of 95°C; after about 15 minutes, reported clock speeds were around 4.05–4.2GHz. HotHardware judged that the CPU could benefit from a larger cooler. During its gaming run, the CPU temperature was about 83°C.

Review measurement Reported result Conditions and qualification
CPU temperature 95°C peak HotHardware, 2022; Prime95 stress test. Around 4.05–4.2GHz after about 15 minutes.
CPU temperature About 83°C HotHardware, 2022; during the review’s gaming run.
GPU temperature 66°C core; roughly 75°C memory HotHardware, 2022; Furmark test.
Power draw About 88W HotHardware, 2022; idle measurement.
Power draw Low-500W range HotHardware, 2022; Metro Exodus Ultra game loop.
Power draw Approximately 735W from the wall HotHardware, 2022; combined Prime95 and Furmark full-load stress test, not typical gaming consumption.
Noise About 42dB HotHardware, 2022; measured two feet from the case front under a full gaming workload.

These are measurements of one sample under the named review conditions. They do not establish what another NEURON configuration will draw, how hot it will run, or how loud it will be. The high stress-test CPU temperature matters most to people who expect long, CPU-heavy workloads; the GPU temperatures and gaming noise were among the aspects HotHardware viewed favorably.

How is the case and connectivity?

HotHardware praised the Corsair 4000 Series case for its practical mid-tower size, cable-management room, fan positions, and upgrade flexibility. Its review described support for up to six 120mm fans or four 140mm fans, a front 360mm radiator, or a roof-mounted 280mm radiator. The sample had fans in available positions.

The reviewed case’s front I/O was limited to a combo headphone/microphone jack, one USB-C port, and one USB-A port. Rear ports depended on the selected motherboard and graphics card, so the tested sample’s motherboard configuration does not define rear I/O for every configurable build.

What did setup and ownership look like?

The review sample arrived in a wooden crate with foam protection, cables, and manuals. It came with Windows 11, Corsair iCUE, and MSI Center; HotHardware described the preinstalled software as minimal. Those details describe the unit the reviewer received, not a guarantee about current packaging or software bundles.

CORSAIR’s November 23, 2021 announcement said initial shipments of Intel 12th Gen and DDR5-equipped ORIGIN desktops, including NEURON, were underway. That release provides company context for the platform, not independent proof of benchmark performance. Read CORSAIR’s announcement.

Is the Origin PC Neuron 4000X worth it?

For the specific configuration tested, HotHardware recommended the system, citing its build quality, component selection, performance, GPU thermals, acoustics, and fair pricing for that reviewed configuration. The reviewer also flagged the high cost of absolute top-end builds and the case for a larger CPU cooler with the i9-12900K. That is a 2022 reviewer’s verdict; it is not a current market comparison.

Whether a present-day NEURON is a good buy depends on its actual parts and price. Compare the whole configuration rather than the product name: processor and graphics card for your workload and target resolution, cooling for sustained CPU loads, noise and power draw, storage and memory, case expansion and front I/O, and the warranty/support package. If a build allows component choices, check what stepping down from the premium parts saves before paying for hardware you do not need.

Does the current NEURON match the 2022 review PC?

No. ORIGIN PC’s currently accessible NEURON page lists a newer configurable product family with current-generation AMD and Intel processor choices, newer graphics cards, DDR5 memory, NVMe storage, and multiple warranty options. It also describes current support offerings. The page does not establish that the 2022 review’s i9-12900K/RTX 3080 Ti configuration remains orderable, that current pricing matches the old figures, or that today’s builds reproduce HotHardware’s benchmarks. No current price is established here. Check ORIGIN PC’s current NEURON configurations and options.
