In April 2026, OpenAI launched the product as ChatGPT Pro $100. It sits between Plus and Pro $200 mainly through its usage allowance, not a completely separate feature set. As of August 18, 2026, this is a launched plan rather than an upcoming rumor.
What the original “Pro Lite” report actually showed
In February 2026, developer Tibor Blaho reportedly found references to ChatGPT Pro Lite, PROLITE and a $100 price in ChatGPT web-app and checkout code. The apparent purpose was to bridge the large gap between Plus at $20 per month and Pro at $200 per month. The reporting appeared on February 22–25, including iThome.

That evidence made the idea plausible, but it was not an official announcement. Code strings can represent an experiment, an unfinished checkout flow or text copied from another plan. A reference in frontend code is different from a public launch announcement and published terms.
What the leak suggested
- A U.S. price of about $100 per month.
- A middle position between Plus and the $200 Pro plan.
- Higher reasoning-model quotas than Plus, with media reports estimating roughly three to five times Plus usage.
- Possible exclusion of the highest-end Pro mode or similar functionality.
Those feature details were inferences from draft code or checkout copy, not specifications confirmed by OpenAI. Reports that mentioned unrestricted video generation, advanced voice or every top model may have been describing unfinished text rather than a final product; WinBuzzer noted that uncertainty.

What OpenAI launched in April 2026
OpenAI subsequently introduced a $100-per-month Pro option and kept the $200 Pro option. OpenAI’s release notes describe the rollout in April 2026; the English Help Center entry is dated April 28, while related launch materials reference activity around April 9. These dates refer to different announcement or documentation points, not two different products. See the release notes.
The current official name is Pro $100, not Pro Lite. OpenAI’s Pro-tier documentation describes two Pro choices that share core capabilities such as Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads. The primary distinction is how much you can use them.

The Codex reason for the new tier
Launch materials positioned Pro $100 for longer, high-intensity Codex sessions and other sustained advanced-model work. The launch included a temporary promotion of up to 10 times Plus Codex usage. That promotional allowance should not be treated as a permanent entitlement; separate model limits, standard tier allowances and anti-abuse controls still apply.

Both Pro tiers are not simply different feature bundles. Pro $100 costs half as much as Pro $200, but its documented usage multiplier is one-quarter as large: 5× versus 20× Plus. OpenAI describes the $100 option as an additional choice, not a replacement for Pro $200.

What “unlimited” means on Pro
OpenAI uses “unlimited” for access to some core models, but that does not mean every model and feature can be run without interruption. Pro access remains subject to abuse-prevention guardrails, model-specific allowances and account-level restrictions.
- Some models have their own usage allowance separate from general Pro access.
- The $100 tier has lower allowances than the $200 tier for certain models.
- Reaching an allowance can make a model temporarily unavailable until access resets.
- A time-limited Codex promotion is different from the standard recurring allowance.
In practical terms, Pro $100 provides broad or unlimited access to some core models while retaining limits around particular models, unusually intensive use and safeguards against abuse. It should not be read as unlimited simultaneous access to everything.

Who should choose each plan?
Choose Plus
- You use ChatGPT for normal writing, learning, research, file analysis and occasional coding.
- You rarely encounter usage warnings or waits.
- Keeping the bill near $20 matters more than sustained high-volume access.
Choose Pro $100
- Plus limits interrupt work repeatedly, especially in advanced models or Codex.
- You need Pro capabilities throughout the week but do not run several demanding projects continuously.
- The additional output or saved time is worth at least $80 more per month than Plus.
Choose Pro $200
- ChatGPT or Codex is a daily production tool.
- You run demanding or parallel workflows and cannot afford frequent allowance-related interruptions.
- You need OpenAI’s highest personal Pro usage level.
When neither Pro tier fits
Casual users and people who only occasionally need advanced models are unlikely to recover either Pro subscription’s cost. Teams that need centralized administration, workspace controls or enterprise security should evaluate a business-oriented offering rather than assuming a personal Pro plan supplies those controls. If you mainly want more messages, uploads or image creation at a lower price, OpenAI’s $8-per-month U.S. ChatGPT Go announcement describes a cheaper alternative, but Go is not positioned for Pro models or maximum Codex capacity: OpenAI’s Go announcement.

- Identify the exact model or feature that is stopping you.
- Record how often the limit is reached and how long it takes to reset.
- Separate a Codex constraint from a general chat constraint; the remedy may differ.
- Estimate whether the extra capacity saves at least $80 per month compared with Plus, or $100 compared with Pro $200.
- Check the allowance shown for your account, because model limits and promotions can change.
How to subscribe, switch or cancel
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings → My Plan.
- Review the Pro $100 and Pro $200 options displayed for your account.
- Alternatively, open the official pricing page at chatgpt.com/pricing.
- Confirm the recurring amount, local taxes, currency conversion and billing terms before payment.
- Use the same Settings → My Plan area to switch or cancel, subject to OpenAI’s billing-cycle rules.
Availability, taxes, currency and rollout can vary by country. The existence of Pro $100 does not establish that it is offered identically in every region, so the pricing page or your account’s plan screen is the authoritative check.

The bottom line on “Pro Lite”
The February leak was not pure vaporware: OpenAI later delivered a $100 Pro tier. However, “Pro Lite” was a leaked or informal label, not the final product name. The official offering is ChatGPT Pro $100, with about five times Plus usage, while Pro $200 remains the 20-times-Plus option for the heaviest individual workloads. Choose based on the limits your work actually encounters, not on the leaked name or the word “unlimited.”
