No: the Grand Exchange no longer has a 2,147,483,647 GP ceiling on the total value of an offer. Since Jagex’s 30 September 2026 update, an offer can use coins and platinum tokens together, up to an approximate combined-currency ceiling of 2.149 trillion GP. But an individual item stack—including a stack of coins—still cannot exceed 2,147,483,647. Buy limits, eligibility rules, and GE tax are separate restrictions that still apply.
What is capped: an item stack or a GE offer?
Jagex’s 30 September 2026 “GE Improvements: Beyond Max Cash” update separates the old max-cash figure from the value a GE offer can handle:
| Rule | Current limit | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| One item stack, including coins | 2,147,483,647 | The maximum quantity/value held in a single stack remains capped. |
| Combined GE currencies | About 2.149 trillion GP | An offer can exceed the old max-cash figure by using coins and platinum tokens together. Jagex describes the ceiling as 2.147 billion coins plus 2.147 billion platinum tokens. |
Enter an offer above the old maximum as usual. When it completes, the GE uses the necessary combination of coins and platinum tokens; it may return coins as change if tokens were used. This changes the offer-value ceiling, not the stack limit.
Known platinum-token issue
Jagex lists a known issue in which GE transactions can convert platinum tokens to GP. Its temporary advice is to keep the exact purchase amount in coins in your inventory to avoid the issue. The same update says coins may sometimes appear with an unnecessary placeholder in the bank; right-click it and choose “Release” to remove it. These are update-specific issues, not permanent rules.

How GE tax works
Tax applies to eligible sales, including high-value ones. Jagex confirms that tax is capped at 5 million coins per item. The OSRS Wiki describes the general rate as 2% of the sale price per item, rounded down, while noting exemptions for bonds and certain low-value or early-game items. The effective amount therefore depends on the item and sale; check the live offer interface for the amount shown on a particular transaction. See the OSRS Wiki’s Grand Exchange tax information.
What GE buy limits restrict
Buy limits restrict purchases, not all trading. Jagex says existing restrictions, including buy limits, were unchanged by the 2026 high-value update. The OSRS Wiki describes the limit as an item-specific quantity that can be bought during a four-hour period. The timer starts when the first item under that limit is successfully purchased. Some related items share a limit, so buying one version can reduce the remaining allowance for another.
There is no single quantity that applies to every item, and limits can change. Check the item’s current GE interface for its displayed limit. The Wiki says there is no corresponding restriction on selling items.
Why an item or account may be blocked from a GE trade
A buy limit is only one possible reason an offer cannot proceed. The OSRS Wiki distinguishes whether an item is tradeable at all, whether a tradeable item is accepted by the GE, and whether a particular account can use the GE for it. Its examples include items tradeable player-to-player but excluded from GE trading, such as partially charged items and certain minigame supplies. It also documents limited GE access for Ironman accounts and restrictions affecting new free-to-play accounts. Check the current account interface or official guidance before relying on a specific example, since account rules and exemptions can change.

- Untradeable item: it cannot be exchanged through the GE or ordinary player trade.
- Tradeable but GE-ineligible item: it may be exchangeable directly with another player but cannot be listed on the GE.
- Account restriction: the account’s mode or status may limit access to an otherwise eligible GE offer.
- Reached buy limit: the account has purchased its allowed quantity for that item or a connected limit group during the applicable period.
- Unmatched offer: the item and account are eligible, but no seller or buyer has yet matched the price and quantity.
These causes are distinct. A failed purchase does not necessarily mean the item has a buy limit or that the GE is broken.

The 30 September 2026 update says guide prices can move by up to 20% per update, rather than 5%, and are updated every three hours rather than every 24 hours; low-volume items also receive updates. A guide price is still only a reference. It does not guarantee an immediate match, so set an offer price with current supply and demand in mind.
