Offensive Security officially adopted the shorter name OffSec on March 1, 2023. The company introduced a new logo and color system, updated its web and email addresses, and refreshed the appearance of certificates and digital badges. OffSec said the change reflected the name people already used and its plans to expand cybersecurity learning beyond traditional penetration-testing training.

What changed on March 1, 2023?

Offensive Security’s press archive dates the announcement to March 1, 2023, and the company’s support FAQ says that “OffSec” became its official name from that date. The announcement was a corporate identity refresh rather than a new product launch.

  • The company began replacing its previous logo and colors.
  • Website links moved from Offensive Security domains to OffSec domains.
  • Department email addresses changed after the announcement.
  • Certificates and digital badges received updated visual designs.

OffSec said the old and new branding could appear together temporarily while the transition took place.

Why did Offensive Security adopt the name OffSec?

According to the OffSec Team’s March 2023 announcement, the shorter name was already widely used for the company. The team described the change as a natural progression and said it better represented the organization’s present and future direction. Its stated rationale was not that the old name was inaccurate, but that “OffSec” was the name customers and the wider security community commonly recognized.

The company summarized its strategic intent with the sentence: “Most importantly, ‘OffSec’ speaks to our present and future expansion.” That is OffSec’s explanation of the strategy, not independent evidence that the rebrand itself produced business growth or better training outcomes.

Was this only a visual rebrand?

For customers, the immediate change was mostly presentation and identity. OffSec’s Brand Refresh FAQ said the refresh introduced no new products or services and did not change prices. Existing customers were not told to buy a new course or certification because of the name change.

The practical credential changes were cosmetic. People who had already downloaded a wallet card or certificate PDF were advised to download a new copy to receive the revised design. The underlying credential was not described as being replaced by a different qualification.

How the refresh fits OffSec’s learning strategy

OffSec presented the new identity alongside a broader learning-library narrative. The company said it intended to teach skills beyond penetration testing, with material for learners ranging from entry-level students to people pursuing advanced cybersecurity roles.

Subject areas named by OffSec

  • Cloud Security
  • Web Application Security
  • Software Security
  • Security Operations
  • Exploit Development

This list describes the company’s stated direction and the areas it highlighted in 2023. It should not be read as an independent ranking of course quality or proof that the rebrand expanded the market.

The security-mindset model

OffSec also linked its identity to a hands-on learning philosophy. The OffSec Team wrote that “Developing a security mindset involves a cycle of trial, failure, adaptation, growth, and triumph.” In practical terms, that model emphasizes attempting a task, diagnosing what went wrong, changing the approach, and trying again. It is OffSec’s educational description, not a comparative study demonstrating superior results over other training providers.

What customers needed to do

  1. Use the current OffSec website links. Bookmarks and saved links using the former Offensive Security domains could need updating.
  2. Expect email-address changes. Department contacts moved to OffSec addresses after March 1, 2023; messages sent during the transition could encounter mixed branding.
  3. Refresh downloaded credentials. If you had a wallet card or certificate PDF saved locally, download a new copy for the updated appearance.
  4. Do not assume a new purchase is required. The FAQ said the refresh itself did not add services or alter prices.

What the 2023 refresh did not establish

The official announcement and FAQ did not provide a material statistic measuring the rebrand’s effect on enrollment, certification success, hiring, or cybersecurity outcomes. They also did not establish that changing the name caused the company’s later product or subscription developments. Claims about improved learning results or commercial growth therefore go beyond what OffSec documented in those materials.

Later subscription context: Learn Unlimited and Learn Enterprise

A separate OffSec support article dated June 24, 2026 says Learn Unlimited was retired effective January 1, 2026. The article describes Learn Enterprise as the unified subscription direction for individual practitioners and organizations, combining course and certification access with organizational capabilities.

Those capabilities include skill assessments, labs, simulations, learning-management features, and analytics. They are later subscription developments, not products or services introduced by the March 2023 brand refresh. Anyone evaluating access should check OffSec’s current terms because subscription names, eligibility, and included features can change independently of the rebrand.

What “OffSec” means for learners and employers

For learners, the main implication is continuity of the provider’s identity while its advertised curriculum spans more cybersecurity domains. A certificate bearing the refreshed design belongs to the same broader OffSec brand introduced in 2023; the visual update alone does not signal a new certification standard.

For employers and training organizations, the name change is useful mainly as a record-keeping detail. Update internal bookmarks, vendor records, procurement references, and contact lists, but assess courses, exams, labs, and organizational features on their current terms rather than treating the rebrand as evidence of capability.

Bottom line

Offensive Security became officially known as OffSec on March 1, 2023. The company said the shorter name matched established usage and signaled expansion into a wider cybersecurity learning library. The refresh changed logos, colors, links, email addresses, and credential artwork, while the FAQ said it did not itself change products, services, or prices. Later moves such as the retirement of Learn Unlimited and the shift toward Learn Enterprise belong to a different period and should be evaluated separately.
