Odd Town is designed for very modest PC hardware and is marked Playable on Steam Deck. The Steam listing asks for Windows 7 or later, a 2.4 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, Version 9.0c graphics support and 1 GB of free storage. The Epic Games Store listing gives the same processor, memory and storage figures but specifies Windows 10, a GeForce 6600 GT and DirectX 9. Use the requirements for the storefront you plan to use, with Steam as the clearest primary purchase reference.
At a glance: can your computer or Steam Deck run Odd Town?
Most older Windows desktops and laptops that can run basic 3D games should meet Odd Town’s published minimum. Its listed memory and storage demands are small, and the CPU requirement dates from an era of dual-core processors. The important qualification is graphics compatibility: the Steam page describes the requirement as “Version 9.0c,” while Epic names a GeForce 6600 GT and DirectX 9.
On Steam Deck, the answer is also yes, but the badge is Playable, not Verified. SteamDB reports that SteamOS runs the game successfully, the default graphics configuration performs well, and every function is reachable with the default controller layout. Some in-game text can be small, and an external Bluetooth or USB controller may require one manual input-device change.
Odd Town’s published PC requirements
The following table separates the two storefront descriptions instead of combining them into one fictional specification. Neither listing publishes an official recommended configuration.

The figures are minimum requirements shown by the Steam and Epic listings in 2026. “Minimum” means the publisher’s baseline for launching and running the game; it is not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution or visual preset. Because no recommended specification is listed, there is no official CPU, GPU or RAM target for higher settings.
Why the operating-system requirements differ
Steam says Windows 7 or later, whereas Epic says Windows 10. That difference may reflect storefront certification or listing maintenance rather than a different game build, but the available specifications do not explain it. If you are buying through Epic, treat Windows 10 as the applicable requirement. If you are installing through Steam, the store’s stated minimum is Windows 7 or later, subject to the operating system still supporting your drivers and the Steam client.
What “Version 9.0c” means in practice
On Steam, “Version 9.0c” is the entire graphics entry. Epic is more explicit, pairing a GeForce 6600 GT with DirectX 9. The safest interpretation is that the PC needs hardware and drivers capable of the DirectX 9-era feature set, not necessarily that it must contain that exact Nvidia card. Integrated graphics should be judged by their documented DirectX support and driver condition rather than by brand name alone.

How to decide whether an old Windows PC is enough
Start with the machine’s actual hardware and the storefront you will use. A computer can exceed the CPU and RAM figures yet still fail to start if its graphics driver lacks the required API support.
- Check Windows. Open Settings > System > About and confirm the edition and version. Steam’s listing allows Windows 7 or later; Epic’s listing specifies Windows 10.
- Check the processor. In the same About page, read the processor model and clock information. The published baseline is a 2.4 GHz dual-core processor or better. A modern processor with more cores is not automatically disqualified because the requirement describes a minimum, not a maximum.
- Check memory. Look for installed RAM under Settings > System > About or in Task Manager’s Performance > Memory view. The listings name 2 GB as the minimum. Windows itself also consumes memory, so a system that barely meets the figure may have little headroom for other applications.
- Identify the graphics device. Press Win+R, enter
dxdiag, and inspect the Display tab. Record the GPU and the installed driver. Compare the device’s documented DirectX capability with the DirectX 9-era requirement; do not rely only on the amount of video memory. - Confirm free space. In File Explorer, right-click the destination drive and choose Properties. The game requires 1 GB of available storage according to both storefront listings. Leave additional room for temporary files, updates and the operating system.
- Update the graphics driver. Install the newest driver offered for the GPU by its manufacturer or by Windows Update. Very old hardware may have no current driver, which is a practical compatibility risk even when the specification appears to qualify.
If all five hardware checks pass, the remaining uncertainty is software-specific: an unsupported driver, unusual laptop graphics switching or a storefront client that no longer runs on an older Windows release. Close browsers and other heavy applications before launching on a low-memory machine.
Steam Deck status: Playable, not Verified
Steam’s badge system distinguishes “works” from “works without user intervention.” Valve defines Verified as a game that “works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box.” Valve describes Playable more cautiously: “The game functions on Deck, but may require manual work from the user.” Manual work can include choosing a community controller layout, opening the on-screen keyboard or using the touchscreen in a launcher.

The test timestamp matters because compatibility can change after a game or Proton update. The record describes the tested build, not a permanent guarantee for every future version.
Set the recommended Proton runtime
- Open Odd Town in your Steam library on the Deck.
- Select the gear icon, then open Properties > Compatibility.
- Enable the option to force a compatibility tool if Steam has not already selected one.
- Choose Proton Stable, the runtime named by the compatibility record.
- Launch the game and check text size and controller behavior before changing other settings.
For the built-in Deck controls, the default layout is reported to expose all game functions and display controller icons. If you connect a Bluetooth or USB controller and input still comes from the Deck, open the Quick Access Menu, go to the controller settings and switch the active controller to the external device.

Working around small text
Small or difficult-to-read in-game text is the specific usability caveat reported for Odd Town. Increase the game’s own text or interface scale if an option exists, move closer to the Deck screen, and use the system magnifier or display scaling only if it improves readability without obscuring controls. The compatibility record does not promise a universal text-size fix, so treat readability as a personal-screen test rather than a guaranteed setting.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Steam or Epic: which PC listing should you follow?
Both storefront descriptions identify The Flying Baguette as developer and Hyperstrange as publisher, and both list Windows as the platform. Steam categorizes the game as Action, Adventure and Indie and gives the release date as October 15, 2026. Epic also lists the same developer and publisher and identifies Windows support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe practical difference is the requirement wording. Steam is the more useful reference for a Steam purchase and for Steam Deck play because it includes the Deck compatibility status and the SteamOS context. Epic’s page is the relevant authority for an Epic purchase and sets Windows 10 as its operating-system minimum. Do not mix the Steam Windows 7 statement with an Epic installation and assume the stricter storefront will accept it.

Installation checklist for a low-spec PC
- Use the store client for the edition you purchased and keep it updated.
- Install to a drive with more free capacity than the game’s listed minimum, so updates and temporary files do not fail.
- Close unnecessary launchers, browsers and overlays before starting the game on an older system.
- Run
dxdiagafter a driver update to confirm that the intended GPU is active, especially on a laptop with switchable graphics. - If the game opens to a black screen or immediately closes, test a lower display mode, disable overlays and verify the installation through the storefront client before replacing hardware.
These steps address common causes of failure without implying that a dock, dedicated controller or PC upgrade is required. The published requirements are low; the documented Deck caveat concerns input selection, not extra accessories.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The game will not launch on Windows
First confirm that you meet the operating-system wording for your store, then update the graphics driver and run the storefront’s file-verification tool. A machine can satisfy the processor and memory figures while lacking a usable DirectX 9-era graphics path. Check dxdiag for driver errors and test again after restarting Windows.
Performance is poor despite meeting the minimum
Minimum specifications do not define a target frame rate or resolution. Reduce the game’s resolution or visual options, close background applications and make sure the laptop is using its intended graphics processor. Because no recommended PC specification is published, there is no official hardware tier to guarantee a particular quality preset.
Controls do not respond to an external Deck controller
Keep the controller connected, open the Quick Access Menu and manually select it as the active controller. The compatibility record specifically warns that Bluetooth and USB devices may need this switch; the default built-in configuration is otherwise reported to provide access to all functions.
Text is hard to read on Deck
Check the game’s interface or text-size options, then adjust the Deck’s display or accessibility settings. The reported issue is legibility of some in-game text, not a failure to render the game.
Bottom line
Odd Town is a low-spec Windows release whose published baseline is suitable for many older PCs. Verify the graphics API and driver rather than looking only at CPU and RAM, and follow the operating-system requirement for the store you choose. On Steam Deck, it runs successfully with good default performance and complete default-controller functionality, but its Playable badge means you may need a small manual adjustment—most notably selecting an external controller or coping with small text.
