For longer runtime, turn on Battery Saver: open Settings > General > Power and enable the Battery Saver toggle. Meta says the mode reduces power consumption, but it does so by lowering brightness and refresh rate and limiting rendering and processor boosts. There is no published figure here for how many extra minutes it provides.
Use Battery Saver when runtime matters most
Meta documents Battery Saver under Settings > General > Power. The final menu label or layout may vary with Horizon OS updates. Meta describes the mode as extending runtime by reducing overall power consumption, but does not publish a measured before-and-after battery-life result. Your actual runtime gain therefore cannot be stated as a fixed number.
Battery Saver is the clearest built-in setting to try when you are willing to trade some visual smoothness and rendering headroom for lower power consumption. It is not a free performance boost.
What Battery Saver changes
According to Meta Horizon OS Developers’ Battery Saver documentation, updated April 8, 2026, the mode makes these changes:

- Brightness: It gradually lowers display brightness to 40%. If you manually change brightness while Battery Saver is active, the gradual reduction stops. When you turn Battery Saver off, brightness gradually returns.
- Refresh rate: It lowers the display refresh rate to 72 Hz. Because the system caps frame rate to the display’s refresh rate, this also caps FPS at 72.
- Rendering: It enables fixed foveated rendering level 3, which reduces rendering resolution in peripheral areas.
- Processing: It disables certain CPU and GPU boosts.
These are documented system behaviors, not a guarantee that every user will notice each change equally. The practical tradeoff is lower power consumption in exchange for reduced brightness, a lower refresh-rate ceiling, and less available rendering and processor headroom. Quest 2 and Quest 3 have different performance headroom
Meta’s developer comparison describes different hardware capabilities and app targets for Quest 2 and Quest 3. The figures below are developer-facing specifications and guidance, not consumer benchmark results.

The approximately 2.5× figure describes Quest 3’s GPU performance relative to Quest 2 in Meta’s developer comparison; it does not mean changing a setting will make a headset run 2.5 times faster. Refresh-rate targets are also app-development guidance: they do not guarantee that a particular game supports every mode. Raising refresh rate is not a battery-saving measure. Keep ADB overrides in the developer-testing category
Meta documents Android system-property controls for developers testing device behavior, including ADB commands to set or read properties. Its reference notes that property changes do not persist after a reboot. These controls are not ordinary setup recommendations, and an override does not guarantee better performance or battery life. Do not assume every optimization tip helps
The documented settings above do not establish predictable performance or runtime benefits from disabling boundary features, changing tracking, clearing caches, or using third-party optimizer apps. Without evidence for a specific headset, software version, and use case, those are not reliable universal recommendations.
