A Windows network adapter reset can interrupt the connection OBS uses to send video to YouTube. First confirm Windows is back online, then check whether OBS reconnected and whether YouTube Live Control Room is still receiving the stream. Those are separate checks: an OBS reconnect does not by itself prove that YouTube still considers the event live.
Why a network adapter reset can interrupt an OBS stream
OBS sends video directly from your computer to YouTube’s streaming service; there is no intermediate OBS streaming server. The path runs through your Windows network adapter and local network, across the internet route, and to YouTube’s ingest server. Resetting the adapter can interrupt that path, even if the adapter reconnects afterward.
OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server. Too many dropped frames can disconnect the encoder. That guidance helps frame the symptom, but it does not establish that every adapter reset ends a YouTube live event or identify which part of the path failed in a particular case.
Check whether the stream is actually offline
- Confirm Windows connectivity. Try opening an ordinary webpage. Then check that the adapter you intend to use is enabled and connected. If web access has not returned, troubleshoot Windows networking before changing OBS or YouTube settings.
- Check OBS’s status and log. Look for a disconnected or reconnecting status and dropped-frame information. Do not rely only on the appearance of the OBS interface; confirm that it has re-established its connection.
- Check the YouTube event. Open YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream tab and inspect the intended event in Live Control Room. Check whether YouTube is receiving data. OBS reconnecting and YouTube recognizing the event as live are distinct states.
- Allow reconnect, then verify. If OBS is attempting to reconnect, let that process run while you confirm that Windows connectivity is stable. If needed, use OBS’s reconnect controls or restart the connection only after checking the event state. Do not assume that reconnecting the encoder restores the same live event.
Troubleshoot the connection one change at a time
Review OBS network settings
In OBS, open Settings → Advanced and check the Network section. During troubleshooting, OBS recommends leaving Bind to IP set to Default. On Windows, you can test Enable Network Optimizations and Enable TCP pacing; some users report that these options help with disconnections, but they are not guaranteed fixes. Change one option at a time and check whether the symptom changes.

Dynamic Bitrate Adjustment can reduce bitrate when the connection is congested. It may help keep a stream going under congestion, but it does not repair the underlying connection and can reduce video quality. Treat it as a trade-off, not a cure for an adapter reset.
Isolate software and route problems
- Check whether a firewall or security program, VPN, or bundled network-management tool is affecting the connection. OBS specifically identifies network optimization software such as Lenovo Vantage or Killer NIC as possible contributors.
- If you briefly disable security software as a diagnostic test, restore protection afterward. Do not leave the computer exposed as a workaround.
- Check the network adapter manufacturer’s support page for a current driver. Note the installed driver version before changing it, so you can identify what changed if the problem persists.
- Test changes individually. Simultaneously changing a VPN, driver, OBS option, and router setting makes it difficult to identify the cause.
Check Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and network hardware
OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming and lists modems, routers, cables, network cards, switches, and extenders among hardware that could be faulty. Microsoft’s Ethernet troubleshooting guidance also identifies the PC, cable, adapter, router, ISP, and USB-to-Ethernet adapter as possible parts of an Ethernet failure path.

- Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
- Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
If you are on Wi-Fi, test a stable wired connection if one is available. On Ethernet, check that the cable is seated and try a known-good cable or port if you can do so without disrupting other equipment. These are fault-isolation tests, not proven fixes for this particular reset-triggered symptom. Replace hardware only when testing points to a fault.
When to reset the YouTube stream key
A Windows adapter reset is not, by itself, a reason to replace your stream key. Reset it only if the key needs replacement—for example, if it may have been exposed. YouTube’s documented path is YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream tab → Stream key → Reset. After YouTube generates a new key, copy it into OBS’s stream settings. A newly generated key must be updated in the encoder; it is not enough to reset it in YouTube.

If the stream still will not reconnect
Collect evidence before making further changes. Record the time and method of the adapter reset, the adapter and driver details, your Windows version, the OBS log, and what Live Control Room shows about the event and incoming data. This information can help distinguish a Windows or local-network issue from a problem farther along the route or with the event state.
If the connection remains unstable after checking Windows, OBS, and your local network, contact your ISP with the incident details. Some parts of the internet route are outside your control. The available guidance does not establish a specific OBS bug caused by Windows adapter resets, so avoid assuming that a particular component is at fault without evidence.
