If an OBS playlist stops after a Windows update, first check whether playback stopped inside OBS or whether YouTube ended the broadcast. For a multi-video playlist, verify OBS’s VLC Video source, VLC installation, and Loop Playlist setting; if the broadcast itself ended, review the event’s YouTube auto-start and auto-stop settings. Official documentation describes these controls but does not establish Windows updates as the cause of this specific problem.
First identify what stopped
Watch the OBS preview and check YouTube Studio. If the preview no longer plays the promo clips, troubleshoot the source in OBS. If OBS is still playing but the YouTube broadcast has ended or never started, check the scheduled broadcast settings in YouTube Studio. These are separate failure points: an OBS playlist loop does not control whether YouTube keeps a broadcast open.
Choose the right OBS source for your promo

For multiple promos, VLC Video is the documented OBS playlist source. Shuffle Playlist changes the order; it is separate from Loop Playlist, which determines whether playback restarts after the playlist runs out of files. OBS: VLC Video Source
Check the playlist and playback settings after an update
- Open the scene that contains the promo. In OBS, select the scene and confirm that the expected VLC Video source is present and enabled.
- Open the source properties. Select the VLC Video source and choose Properties. Confirm the playlist entries still point to files that exist and can be opened. An update coinciding with missing or moved files is a reason to inspect the paths, not proof that Windows caused the issue.
- Confirm VLC is installed and matches OBS. VLC Video depends on VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. OBS: VLC Video Source
- Enable Loop Playlist. If the playlist should run continuously, make sure this option is checked. It is the setting for restarting the source after it reaches the end of its media files. OBS: VLC Video Source
- Review Visibility Behaviour. Choose the behavior you want when the source is hidden or its scene is not visible. Depending on this setting, playback may continue, pause, or stop; a scene change can therefore look like a playlist failure. OBS: VLC Video Source
- Test the scene. Play the playlist through its end if practical, or test the relevant scene transitions and visibility changes. Confirm the next clip starts as expected.
For one clip, open the Media Source properties and check Loop instead; do not expect the VLC playlist controls to apply to a Media Source. OBS: Media Sources

If OBS keeps playing but YouTube ends the live broadcast
Review the auto-start and auto-stop controls for the specific scheduled broadcast in YouTube Studio. YouTube says that reusing stream settings also copies the auto-start and auto-stop selections, so a reused setup may carry behavior you did not intend for the current event. Check the event’s selections when YouTube ends the broadcast or does not start it as expected; these settings govern broadcast behavior, not whether the OBS playlist repeats. Prevent a repeat before the next store promo stream
- After an operating-system update, open the OBS scene and verify the source type, playlist file paths, and VLC installation.
- For a multi-item playlist, confirm Loop Playlist and choose the intended Visibility Behaviour.
- For a single clip, check the Media Source’s Loop option.
- Check the scheduled YouTube event’s auto-start and auto-stop selections if the broadcast itself is stopping.
- Run a short private or unlisted stream test before the next public broadcast. This is a practical check of the settings above, not evidence that Windows updates cause the symptom.
