A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Choose OBS if you want a visual studio with scenes, overlays, and hands-on monitoring; choose FFmpeg if you can manage a fixed, scripted command-line pipeline. Neither encoder guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 streaming. Stable upload bandwidth, monitoring, tested recovery, and the right to broadcast every track matter just as much as the software. For a continuous lofi broadcast that should keep running without a computer left on at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: it loops uploaded videos on YouTube, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.
OBS or FFmpeg: which fits your lofi stream?
Both OBS and FFmpeg can send an encoder feed to YouTube. The practical difference is how you build and operate that feed—not a proven difference in 24/7 reliability. YouTube’s requirements apply whichever encoder you use, and the official sources do not establish that one is intrinsically more reliable than the other.
| Consideration | OBS | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | A visual production with scenes, overlays, source changes, or an operator who wants a graphical interface. | A stable, repeatable input-to-output pipeline managed by someone comfortable with command-line tools. |
| Changing the stream | Convenient when you expect to adjust visual sources or scenes while operating. | Can suit a fixed feed; configuration and changes are managed through the command line. |
| Monitoring and recovery | The interface helps with hands-on observation, but unattended operation still needs external checks and a recovery plan. | Monitoring and restart behavior need deliberate process or service design. No particular restart command or recovery guarantee is established here. |
| YouTube setup | The OBS project’s service configuration lists YouTube RTMPS and legacy RTMP settings; confirm the current options in your installed build. | Match the chosen FFmpeg build and output configuration to YouTube’s published encoder requirements. |
| 24/7 suitability | Depends on the whole setup—machine, source, network, monitoring, and recovery—not the software choice alone. | Depends on the whole setup, including input failures, looping, process recovery, network interruptions, and monitoring. |
This is a workflow comparison, not a performance test. No comparative uptime, CPU, or memory result is established. See OBS, its maintained YouTube service configuration, and YouTube’s encoder settings.
Set up YouTube streaming before choosing an encoder
YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its encoder workflow supplies a stream URL and key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a public command, screenshot, or tutorial. Check current account eligibility and setup in YouTube’s getting-started guidance.

- Confirm eligibility. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Create or select the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Obtain the stream URL and key using YouTube’s current encoder workflow.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the URL and key in OBS or the equivalent settings for your FFmpeg pipeline. Keep the key private.
- Use secure ingestion where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS. OBS’s maintained service configuration lists the primary RTMPS endpoint
rtmps://a.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2and a backup endpoint, as well as legacy RTMP entries. Endpoint configuration can change, so verify it in your OBS build and Live Control Room rather than relying on a copied setting.
Use YouTube-compatible video and audio settings
YouTube’s current encoder settings list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR) encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. The recommended keyframe interval is two seconds and it should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube specifies a 44.1 kHz sample rate and recommends 128 kbps. Select the video bitrate for your actual resolution and frame rate using YouTube’s current bitrate table; a single bitrate is not appropriate for every stream. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers on different devices and network conditions.
OBS’s service configuration also lists H.264, HEVC, and AV1 and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. Confirm the available codec and encoder options in your installed OBS version. For FFmpeg, check that your particular build and output pipeline can produce the settings YouTube requires; exact version-specific command syntax and a validated 24/7 command are not established here.

YouTube also supports HLS ingestion for applicable workflows. It has higher latency than RTMP and has requirements including TS segments, a rolling playlist, HTTPS POST/PUT, and segment durations between one and four seconds. An ordinary lofi stream generally does not need HLS unless its codec or workflow calls for it. Consult YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance before selecting it.
Plan for bandwidth, monitoring, and recovery
Encoder settings alone do not make a stream safe to leave unattended. YouTube recommends having upload bandwidth above the total outgoing bitrate, with 20% headroom, and advises testing the encoder and monitoring the stream’s audio and video quality. A stream that starts successfully has not yet demonstrated that it will survive a long run.

Before going live
- Measure the connection’s upload capacity under conditions resembling the planned broadcast. Leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom above the total outgoing bitrate.
- Test the full path from source through encoder to YouTube, including the intended resolution, frame rate, and audio.
- Confirm the stream is visible in YouTube and that audio and video remain correct.
- If you need a local recording, test that the file is actually created and playable, and confirm there is enough local storage for the intended recording period.
- Decide how you will notice an interruption and what you will do if the source, encoder, or network fails. Do not treat a successful launch as proof of unattended reliability.
During an unattended run
Arrange checks for whether the stream is still live and whether picture and sound are healthy. Plan how you will respond to an encoder stop, a lost source, or a network interruption. OBS provides a GUI for hands-on observation; an FFmpeg setup needs its monitoring and restart behavior designed deliberately. The materials here do not establish a specific recovery command or guarantee for either encoder.
Know what YouTube does—and does not—archive
A continuous 24/7 broadcast is not a reliable way to create one complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If a complete archive matters, record locally and check the recording and available storage rather than depending on YouTube to save the continuous stream. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Clear music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If copyrighted material remains in a stream, YouTube may interrupt or terminate it. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and confirm that the rights cover broadcasting the music on your channel.
YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the necessary rights for their live content, including music licensing rights. This is a platform requirement, not legal advice; see YouTube’s livestream terms.
