Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Short answer: OBS can keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running from an Indian home connection if the computer stays on and the actual upload link remains stable at the chosen bitrate. A cloud service removes the home PC and home upload connection from the stream’s outbound path after you upload your video. For a channel built around looping prerecorded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Neither option bypasses YouTube’s eligibility, copyright, or archiving limits.
OBS or cloud hosting: what changes?
OBS is software running on your computer. It encodes the video and sends it directly to YouTube, so both the computer and its internet connection must keep working for the broadcast to continue. OBS notes that encoding requirements depend on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; a computer that can open OBS is not necessarily powerful enough for a continuous stream. OBS system requirements and OBS connection troubleshooting explain the relevant constraints.
With cloud hosting, a provider’s system sends the stream to YouTube instead. For StreamNeo’s prerecorded-video workflow, the local upload is needed to put the media in the service; the home connection does not then have to carry the live stream continuously. This changes which equipment and network the broadcast depends on, but not YouTube’s rules or the need for an authorized stream key and content.
| Decision | OBS on your computer | StreamNeo cloud streaming |
|---|---|---|
| What sends video to YouTube | Your computer encodes and uploads the stream. | StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube. |
| Home connection during broadcast | Must sustain the stream’s outbound bitrate for as long as it runs. | Does not have to carry the stream outbound after upload; it is still needed to upload media and manage the service. |
| What you keep running | The computer, OBS, and a working network connection. | No home computer or OBS needs to stay on. |
| Best fit | Creators who want local production control and can keep a suitable PC and stable upload connection running. | Creators looping prerecorded videos who want the stream to run independently of their home PC and broadband. |
For this specific prerecorded 24/7 use case, StreamNeo is the cloud option to consider first: it runs from the cloud, accepts uploaded videos at their original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. See StreamNeo for current service details.

Can OBS stream 24/7 on Indian broadband?
Potentially, but there is no single Indian-broadband speed threshold that guarantees a stable 24/7 stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance is based on codec, resolution, and frame rate—not country—and its bitrate numbers are recommendations for sending video to YouTube, not measurements of what an Indian ISP will deliver at your home. A speed test at one moment also cannot prove that the connection will stay stable overnight or when other people use the network.
Choose a bitrate and leave headroom
YouTube recommends that the total stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and advises leaving 20% room. Its H.264 recommendations include:
| Ingest resolution and frame rate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help recommendations for H.264, not guaranteed minimums or India-specific test results. With YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance, a 14 Mbps stream needs about 17.5 Mbps of available upload capacity for that stream alone; a 17 Mbps stream needs about 21.25 Mbps. These are arithmetic planning estimates, not service guarantees. Leave more margin if household devices share the connection or upload speed varies.

OBS’s troubleshooting guidance suggests starting around 75% of total upload speed when diagnosing dropped frames. Treat this as a troubleshooting starting point, not a promise of stable streaming or a substitute for YouTube’s bitrate guidance. YouTube’s streaming tips and YouTube’s encoder settings cover upload headroom and recommended ingest settings.
Measure the connection you will actually use
- Test upload speed from the place where the streaming computer will sit, at times when you expect to broadcast.
- Repeat tests and run a realistic private or unlisted stream long enough to expose interruptions; a short speed test does not measure overnight reliability.
- Account for concurrent household use. Cloud backups, video calls, uploads, and other users can consume the spare capacity you planned to leave.
- Prefer Ethernet over Wi-Fi when practical. A wired link removes one common source of instability but cannot fix an overloaded router, ISP congestion, or an unreliable upstream route.
Set up a local 24/7 stream with OBS
- Enable YouTube live streaming in advance. Confirm that your channel is eligible and activate live streaming before the planned start. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check the current steps in YouTube’s live-streaming activation guidance.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube or the custom ingest option as appropriate, and enter the server URL and key. Keep the key private; reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Configure output for YouTube. Use H.264 video, a constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Select a resolution and frame rate your encoder and upload connection can sustain; use YouTube’s recommendation for that combination as the starting target. For example, its H.264 guidance lists 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Avoid selecting a higher setting merely because OBS offers it.
- Build the loop or playlist. Add your prerecorded media as OBS sources or scenes and arrange the transitions and repeat behavior you need. Confirm that the final scene does not leave a blank screen, stop playback, or require manual input when a clip ends. Check audio levels and playback with representative material.
- Test before relying on it. Start a private or unlisted test, check YouTube’s stream-health indicators, and observe the stream with realistic video and audio. Make sure the computer can encode without overload and that dropped frames do not accumulate.
- Keep the system running. Disable sleep or hibernation for the streaming computer, keep OBS open, and prevent planned restarts or updates from interrupting the broadcast. Use a wired connection where possible and monitor the PC and network during the test.
- Make a separate archive if you need one. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Record a local copy or another independent archive if preserving the full program matters.
Use YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming tips for the current ingest recommendations, and OBS’s dropped-frame troubleshooting guide when diagnosing connection problems.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.YouTube rules still apply to both methods
- Live eligibility: Cloud hosting does not activate live streaming for your channel. Complete YouTube’s activation requirements and allow up to 24 hours for a first activation.
- Copyright and permission: A video being prerecorded, owned by someone else, or publicly available does not by itself give you the right to rebroadcast it. Obtain the necessary rights for the video and audio, including music, and review YouTube’s policies before you stream. Use the copyright safety checklist as a preparation aid; it does not grant rights or replace YouTube policy.
- Reused-content and channel policies: Permission to use media is separate from whether a channel meets YouTube’s monetization and other content policies. Repetitive or reused programming can raise separate policy questions; assess your channel and content against current YouTube rules rather than assuming a 24/7 format is automatically eligible.
- Stream key security: Treat the key like a password. Do not post it in screenshots, public documents, or chats. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder or service using it.
- Archive limits: YouTube’s capture limitation applies regardless of whether OBS or a cloud provider sends the stream. A cloud loop is not a guarantee that YouTube will preserve a full 24/7 archive.
Troubleshoot interruptions and poor stream health
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames in OBS | The connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. | Lower the bitrate, test upload again, use Ethernet, and check whether household traffic is consuming capacity. |
| Intermittent drops despite adequate speed tests | Wi-Fi interference, router or modem issues, a faulty cable, VPN/security software, ISP congestion, or a poor route to the ingest server. | Test wired, inspect network hardware and cables, try without a VPN if safe and appropriate, and contact the ISP if the issue persists. A speed test measures a moment, not continuity. |
| OBS encoder overload or stutter | The computer cannot encode the selected resolution, frame rate, or scene complexity in real time. | Reduce output resolution or frame rate, simplify scenes, or choose a more suitable encoder; then test again under the intended workload. |
| YouTube shows poor or no incoming signal | Wrong stream URL or key, a closed OBS stream, or a connection issue. | Verify the stream key and server URL in YouTube Live Control Room and OBS. Reset an exposed key, update OBS, then start a fresh test. |
| A 24/7 stream is missing from channel archives | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s capture limit. | Keep a separate local or independent recording when the full archive matters; YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. |
OBS identifies dropped frames as a connection problem rather than proof that the video encoder is too slow; encoder overload and network drops need different fixes. Follow its troubleshooting steps and monitor YouTube stream health during the test.
Quick Recap
Which option should you choose?
- Choose OBS if you need local scene control, can leave a suitable computer running, and have tested stable upload capacity with enough headroom at your chosen settings.
- Choose cloud hosting if the content is prerecorded and the main problem is reliance on a home PC or broadband uplink. Check how a service handles media formats, looping, reconnection, stream-key security, monitoring, storage, pricing, and support before committing.
- Keep an independent recording if a complete archive is important, whichever sending method you use.
