YouTube lists these as recommended encoder settings, not as a guarantee that an Indian home connection can sustain the stream. Test the upload connection where OBS will run, leave at least 20% bandwidth headroom, and step down to 720p30 at 8 Mbps if the higher profile is not stable.
Recommended OBS settings for a bhajan stream
YouTube’s guidance is based on codec, resolution, and frame rate—not the streamer’s country. The figures below are YouTube recommendations checked in 2026; the official tables do not state a publication date. Configure the settings in OBS to match the profile you have tested at your broadcast location.

If 1080p30 at 14 Mbps is not stable, try 1280 × 720 at 30 fps and 8 Mbps using the same general CBR, keyframe, audio, and RTMPS pattern. YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30 is 8 Mbps, also checked in 2026. A mostly static devotional visual may not need the higher resolution, but test both options with your actual artwork and motion rather than assuming one will look better for your setup.
Measure upload speed before choosing a bitrate
The bitrate setting is only useful if the connection can sustain it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the stream bitrate. That means the recommended 14 Mbps video setting needs at least 17.5 Mbps of sustained upload capacity before accounting for other network use; 8 Mbps needs at least 10 Mbps. These are arithmetic headroom thresholds based on YouTube’s recommendation, not claims about typical Indian internet speeds.

- Run a sustained upload test on the same connection and in the same location where the stream will operate.
- Repeat at representative times if household or office usage varies; other devices and shared-network traffic can reduce available capacity.
- Use the lower profile if the connection cannot maintain the higher bitrate with the recommended headroom.
- Test with audio and motion similar to the real broadcast, then check YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test.
A brief speed-test result is not proof of 24/7 stability. YouTube warns that connectivity disruptions can break a live stream, so avoid treating a bitrate as a substitute for monitoring the actual broadcast.
Set up the channel and connect OBS to YouTube
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days to go live. Use the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room; labels and workflow can change, so follow the current Studio interface for your account.

- Confirm the channel is eligible for live streaming before building the playlist.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or configure the broadcast.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if available, and connect or enter the server and stream key supplied by the Live Control Room. Select RTMPS when the service offers it.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not show it in screenshots, overlays, public documents, or a screen recording; regenerate it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Start with a private or unlisted test broadcast if appropriate, inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and confirm that viewers can see and hear the intended output before leaving it running.
Loop authorized bhajan files in OBS
OBS’s Media Source can play local video and audio files, and its Loop property restarts playback when the file ends. The official OBS Media Sources guide is dated 2022-01-11; check the labels in the OBS version you currently use.
- Prepare the local video or audio file you are authorized to stream, and make sure it plays correctly on the computer.
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the local file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties so playback repeats at the end.
- Preview the scene through a complete playback cycle. Check that audio restarts cleanly, the visual does not go blank unexpectedly, and volume is consistent.
- If you are combining multiple tracks into a longer file or playlist, test the transitions and the end-to-start loop before streaming unattended.
OBS can keep the local media playing, but a single-computer setup cannot promise continuity through a computer failure, power loss, or network outage. If uninterrupted operation matters, plan how you will detect a failure and restore the broadcast; a backup encoder is an operational option, not a guarantee.

Plan for YouTube archives and sessions longer than 12 hours
YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The help page’s exact warning is: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube also says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.
A continuous 24-hour broadcast therefore does not guarantee a complete YouTube replay. If a full recording matters, schedule shorter sessions and record locally as a backup. During the broadcast, monitor that the local recording file is growing and that audio and video are still being captured.

Check music rights before going live
Devotional subject matter does not itself establish permission to stream a recording. Lyrics, compositions, arrangements, performances, and sound recordings can have different rights owners. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if it identifies material that remains in the broadcast, it may replace the picture, interrupt the stream, or terminate it.
Even when you have a licence, YouTube says a third-party work can still be interrupted unless the rights holder adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s terms require providers to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws. Whether a particular recording is cleared depends on the recording, rights holders, licences, and territories involved; the platform guidance alone does not determine Indian licensing requirements. Use recordings you created or have permission to stream, and resolve any required Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder before relying on a long-running broadcast.

Troubleshoot common stream problems
