For a Punjabi music playlist stream built from local files, use OBS’s VLC Video source to make a multi-track playlist, enable looping, and stream over RTMPS. Start with YouTube’s recommended encoder settings for your chosen resolution and frame rate, then test the actual playlist and connection before relying on it. OBS can loop the playlist, but no local setup guarantees uninterrupted, indefinite streaming.
Before you go live: confirm the music rights
A Punjabi-language track is not automatically cleared for a YouTube livestream because it is available as a file or can be played on your device. Confirm that you have permission for each track to be broadcast live, in the territories where the stream may be viewed, and for any archive or monetization you intend to use. Clearance for a playlist cannot be determined without the track list and permissions from the relevant rights holders.
Build a looping playlist in OBS
Use VLC Video for multiple local tracks
- Install VLC before opening OBS. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC; otherwise the VLC Video source may not appear.
- In OBS, create or select the scene you will use for the stream. In the Sources panel, click + and choose VLC Video.
- Add the local audio or video files you have permission to stream to the playlist. Enable Loop Playlist; OBS documents this option as on by default.
- Keep the VLC playlist source visible in the live scene. OBS’s documented behavior is to stop playback when a source is not visible and restart it when visible, so switching scenes can interrupt or restart the playlist.
- Play the scene and verify that audio meters move and that the intended tracks are audible. Check your visual layout too, even if it is only a static image.

Use Media Source for one file
If your audio is already combined into a single file, OBS’s built-in Media Source supports local audio and video files. Its individual-file Loop option is separate from VLC Video’s playlist loop setting. Use VLC Video when you need OBS to play a list of separate tracks.

Choose YouTube-compatible encoder settings
Use the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point: it considers hardware resources and network conditions. Then set the output to a level your upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. Do not set the keyframe interval above four seconds. YouTube’s guidance permits frame rates up to 60 fps, but a static image accompanying music usually does not need 60 fps or a high resolution.

These are H.264 encoder figures in YouTube Help’s settings guidance, accessed October 3, 2026—not guarantees of what your computer or network can sustain. YouTube’s bitrate table varies by resolution, frame rate, and ingestion codec, so consult the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for your chosen combination. Run an upload speed test and leave enough capacity for stability rather than treating the recommended bitrate as a safe minimum for every connection.

Configure OBS and connect the YouTube stream
- In OBS, open Settings and use the Stream section to connect your YouTube account or enter the stream key provided in YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- In the output or encoder settings, choose H.264 if you are using the H.264 figures above, set rate control to CBR, and select a bitrate appropriate to your resolution, frame rate, and upload capacity.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Select AAC or MP3 for audio encoding. Confirm the correct audio source is active and that OBS’s meters respond during playback.
- Choose RTMPS as the YouTube ingest protocol where the stream connection options allow it.
- Start with a short test stream using the actual playlist, scene, and encoder settings. Check the live preview and YouTube’s stream health before scheduling or relying on a longer broadcast.
OBS’s Quick Start Guide (August 25, 2021) recommends using the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point. YouTube also recommends testing before an event and monitoring stream health during it.
Keep playback and the connection under observation
- Watch the OBS dropped-frame count and connection indicator. OBS says an increasing dropped-frame count and a yellow or red indicator can signal an unstable connection to the streaming server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Reduce the bitrate or resolution and test again if this occurs.
- Confirm the VLC playlist remains visible in the active scene and continues advancing through tracks. If you switch scenes, check that the source visibility behavior does not stop or restart playback unexpectedly.
- Use a consistent keyframe interval. OBS notes that YouTube transcodes live streams and that consistent keyframes help quality selection transition smoothly.
- Test your complete workflow before leaving a stream unattended. The published encoder guidance does not establish a maximum runtime, guaranteed unattended reconnection, or indefinite uptime.
