For a 720p, 30 fps YouTube Live stream, set OBS to 1280×720 at 30 fps, use H.264 with CBR, start at 8,000 kbps if your tested JioFiber upload can sustain it, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube lists 3,000 kbps as the minimum for this format. A JioFiber plan’s advertised upload speed is not a guarantee of stable performance at broadcast time, so test your actual connection and stream before going live.
Recommended OBS settings for 720p at 30 fps
| Setting | Starting value |
|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1280×720 |
| Frame rate | 30 fps |
| Video encoder format | H.264 |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Video bitrate | 8,000 kbps to start if your tested upload can sustain it; test lower values down to 3,000 kbps if needed |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds |
| Streaming protocol | RTMPS where available |
| Audio | AAC; YouTube lists 128 kbps for stereo |
| Color for SDR | Rec. 709, 8-bit |
These are YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for this format, not a promise of a particular picture quality or a stable connection. YouTube’s encoder guidance also lists H.265 and AV1; H.264 is the conservative cross-device choice reflected in its table. The best encoder option on your computer depends on its hardware and configuration, so there is no single hardware encoder or software preset that can be prescribed for every PC. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance explains the supported ingest settings.
Choose a bitrate JioFiber can sustain
Start by measuring your upload
Run an upload speed test under conditions close to your planned broadcast. Leave capacity for audio, streaming protocol overhead, household traffic and fluctuations; do not treat a speed-test result as a guarantee of continuous performance. Start at 8,000 kbps only if the connection has enough headroom to sustain it. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing the stream before the event, including audio and motion similar to the real broadcast.
Lower the bitrate if the stream is unstable
If your upload test or stream-health indicators show instability, test a lower video bitrate, staying within YouTube’s listed H.264 range where possible: 3,000 kbps is the stated minimum and 8,000 kbps the recommendation for 720p30. Lower bitrate reduces network demand but can reduce visual detail; higher bitrate can preserve more detail, especially during motion, but needs more sustained upload capacity. Compare results in a test broadcast instead of assuming one setting will suit every connection.

Jio describes JioFiber speeds as symmetric. Its plan comparison includes examples of 30 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 150 Mbps upload speeds matching their download speeds. Those are plan descriptions, not measurements of your own connection at the time you stream. Check Jio’s plan comparison for the plan details applicable to you.
Set up OBS and YouTube Live
- Confirm YouTube Live access. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and locate its stream settings. Follow YouTube’s current live-stream setup flow; the labels can change. Copy the stream key without sharing it. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect your account or choose the option to use a stream key. If entering the key, paste the key from YouTube Studio and keep it private. Choose RTMPS if it is available in the service or server options.
- Set video dimensions and frame rate. Open Settings → Video. Set the output resolution to 1280×720 and the frame rate to 30. Check that the stream output—not only the canvas—is 720p.
- Set the encoder and bitrate. Open Settings → Output and use the streaming output settings. Select H.264, set rate control to CBR, and set the video bitrate to 8,000 kbps if your measured upload has adequate headroom. If not, test a lower setting down to 3,000 kbps. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
- Configure audio and SDR color. Use AAC audio and 128 kbps for stereo. For SDR, YouTube’s advanced settings specify Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth. Confirm that the selected OBS audio source is the one you intend viewers to hear.
- Run a realistic test. Start a test stream or private/unlisted rehearsal using representative audio and motion. Check OBS for rendering or encoding overload and check YouTube Studio’s stream-health indicators. Adjust bitrate if the connection or health indicators are unstable, then test again before the public broadcast.
- Go live and monitor. Start streaming in OBS and confirm that YouTube receives the feed before making the broadcast public or beginning the event. Keep an eye on OBS and YouTube stream health during the broadcast.

Understand what viewers receive
OBS sends one configured ingest stream to YouTube. YouTube transcodes that incoming stream into multiple viewer formats, so a viewer may receive a different playback rendition depending on YouTube’s processing and the viewer’s device or network. Your OBS output resolution and bitrate describe the feed you send, not a guarantee that every viewer will see playback at 720p. OBS describes transcoding as converting a source feed into multiple output feeds and advises staying within the platform’s recommended keyframe interval. See the OBS streaming guidelines.
Troubleshoot common stream problems
YouTube reports a weak or unstable stream
- Likely cause: The sustained upload available to OBS is insufficient or fluctuating, even if the plan advertises a high speed.
- What to do: Test upload under realistic conditions, reduce video bitrate in steps toward YouTube’s 3,000 kbps listed minimum for H.264 720p30, and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators again. Reduce competing household traffic if possible.
The stream disconnects or buffers despite a speed-test result
- Likely cause: A speed test is a snapshot, not proof of stable upload throughout the event; other traffic, overhead or connection variation can affect the live feed.
- What to do: Repeat the preflight with representative audio and motion, monitor OBS and YouTube health, and choose a bitrate your connection sustains rather than relying only on the advertised plan speed.
YouTube flags keyframe or encoding settings
- Likely cause: The keyframe interval or rate-control setting does not match the recommended ingest configuration.
- What to do: Confirm CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval in OBS; YouTube says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds.
The stream appears at a different quality for viewers
- Likely cause: YouTube creates multiple viewer renditions from the incoming feed, and playback varies with processing, device and network.
- What to do: Verify the OBS ingest settings and YouTube stream health, then check playback on the intended viewing devices. Viewer-side quality options are not the same as OBS output settings.
Check copyright and live-stream eligibility
Use content you have the rights to stream and review YouTube’s live-stream rules, including copyright requirements and policies relevant to reused content. A technically healthy OBS feed does not establish that the content is permitted or eligible for monetization. Check YouTube’s current policies and account notices before scheduling a broadcast.
