No OBS configuration guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 run: network, encoder, computer, and YouTube’s long-stream archive limits all matter.
Recommended OBS settings for a static-image meditation stream
Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then test and adjust its recommendations on the computer and connection you intend to use. A static background does not need a video source: OBS recommends an Image Source for a still asset, and simpler scenes can reduce resource use.

These are configuration choices, not a promise of reliable 24-hour operation. OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guidance and YouTube’s encoder settings guidance are useful references when tuning your own setup.
Choose a bitrate that your connection can sustain
YouTube’s H.264 guidance lists minimum and recommended bitrates for specific output combinations. These are platform recommendations, not universal OBS presets or proof that an internet connection can sustain them. The connection needs to remain stable at the configured bitrate, and YouTube’s ingest limits also apply.

OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when troubleshooting dropped frames. Treat that as a diagnostic starting point, not a guarantee: available upload can fluctuate, and other devices or applications may consume capacity. Test the connection and stream health at the intended output settings before committing to a long run.
Set up the static image and audio in OBS
- Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard. In OBS, open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow the prompts for streaming. Its recommendations account for your machine and network, but you still need to test the real scene and duration.
- Create a scene. In the Scenes panel, select +, give the scene a name such as “Meditation,” and keep the composition simple.
- Add the background. In Sources, select + → Image, name the source, and choose the image file. Resize or crop it to fill the canvas, checking that important visual elements are not cut off.
- Add the audio. Add the intended audio source in Sources, or use the relevant audio input already available to OBS. Check the Audio Mixer during playback: the meter should respond, but not remain in the red. Listen to the stream output to confirm the audio is present and at a comfortable level.
- Configure the destination. Open Settings → Stream, select YouTube or the relevant service option, and configure the server and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it, or include it in screenshots.
- Configure output. Open Settings → Output and set the encoder, CBR, bitrate, and keyframe interval. Use YouTube’s platform guidance and your stable upload capacity to select resolution, frame rate, and bitrate.
- Test before going live. Run the exact scene, audio, encoder, resolution, and bitrate you plan to use. Monitor OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube’s stream health. A brief successful test does not establish that the computer and network will run unattended for a full day.
Make a long run more reliable
- Prefer wired networking. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable. Ethernet cannot rule out an ISP issue or a problem along the route to YouTube.
- Watch for dropped frames and disconnections. Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and confirm the connection can sustain the chosen bitrate. If available, try a different ingest server and reduce bitrate if needed.
- Use automatic reconnect as a fallback. OBS has an automatic reconnect control. Its network troubleshooting guidance also describes dynamic bitrate adjustment as a beta option; it may lower quality and does not fix an unstable underlying connection.
- Keep a local recording if the program matters. OBS recommends MKV for recordings because an ungraceful stop does not corrupt the entire file. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup.
- Verify the complete chain. Test the image, audio, encoder performance, connection, stream key, and platform stream health together. No single setting can compensate for a failure elsewhere.
Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not count on YouTube producing a complete replay from one continuous 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Its guidance also says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams.

If a complete replay matters, consider dividing the program into shorter sessions and verify how YouTube handles the resulting archives. Keep a local recording if you need a backup, and confirm that the recording is complete before relying on it. These archive and DVR cautions concern YouTube; check the applicable rules separately for another destination.
Check rights and YouTube policies before streaming
OBS settings do not grant permission to broadcast meditation music, recordings, artwork, or other material. Confirm that you have the rights or licenses needed for every audio and visual element, including material described as royalty-free, and review the terms that apply to your particular use. YouTube’s live encoder guidance covers technical streaming setup, not licensing for your audio. Also review YouTube’s current policies for live content and monetization if those apply to your channel; do not assume a long, static-image stream qualifies simply because it is technically live.

Troubleshooting common OBS problems
