A Google Play Developer Console listing reported in June 2019 put a device called “mdarcy” on the radar with Android Pie, but it did not confirm a revised Tegra X1. NVIDIA later announced two SHIELD TV models with a Tegra X1+ processor in October 2019; the available sources do not establish that either retail model used the mdarcy code name.
What the mdarcy listing showed
On June 15, 2019, Android TV Guide posted that “mdarcy” appeared in the Google Play Developer Console with Android TV 9, or Android Pie. 9to5Google reported the listing the next day. Its report is contemporaneous coverage of a catalog entry, not an NVIDIA announcement, and the original entry is not available in the sources cited here. 9to5Google’s June 16 report
The post quoted in that report said: “Code name is ‘mdarcy’, can’t really tell if they tweaked the Tegra X1.” That wording captures the key distinction: the listing was a clue that a SHIELD-related device might be in development, while the chip speculation remained unresolved.
Did the leak confirm a Tegra X1 refresh?
No. The June report raised the possibility of a tweaked Tegra X1, but treated the chipset details and possible performance implications as rumors. It did not establish the processor model or specifications for a device named mdarcy.

NVIDIA’s later launch announcement provides a separate, official fact: the SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV Pro announced on October 28, 2019, used Tegra X1+. NVIDIA said the processor delivered “up to 25 percent more performance than its predecessor.” That is NVIDIA’s claim, not an independent benchmark in the cited material. Neither the announcement nor the other cited NVIDIA pages explicitly connects the mdarcy code name to either retail model. Android Pie was not proof of new hardware
Android Pie was the operating-system version associated with the Play Console listing, but that detail alone could not show that a new device had shipped. NVIDIA’s software archive says SHIELD TV received Android P through Experience Upgrade 8.0, with a redesigned Settings menu and streamlined setup. Android P therefore was not exclusive evidence of a newly rumored model.
