Separately, the companies announced a collaboration to develop multiple generations of custom CPUs and platform products for data centers and PCs, with NVIDIA NVLink included in the architecture. Intel reported that the share sale closed on December 26, 2025.
What did NVIDIA’s $5 billion investment buy?
Under the purchase agreement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, NVIDIA agreed to buy 214,776,632 Intel shares for $23.28 apiece, an aggregate cash purchase price of $5.0 billion. Intel later reported that the issuance and sale were completed on December 26, 2025.
The shares are the direct result of the investment. The separate product collaboration gives the companies a framework to work on custom chips and platforms; the announcement does not describe the share purchase as buying a product, a license, or ownership of Intel’s chip business.
What are Intel and NVIDIA developing?
The companies announced work on multiple generations of custom data-center and PC products. Intel is responsible for designing and manufacturing custom CPUs for both client PCs and data-center platforms. NVIDIA NVLink is the named interconnect technology in the announced platform architecture.

Did NVIDIA buy Intel?
No. NVIDIA bought a specified block of Intel shares, and Intel’s filing confirms the transaction was completed. The cited announcement and filings do not say that NVIDIA acquired Intel or obtained control of the company. They also do not state what percentage of Intel the shares represent, so a precise ownership stake cannot be inferred from the share count alone.
When will the co-developed chips be available?
The September 18, 2025 collaboration announcement covers multiple product generations, but it does not give launch dates. The cited company releases also do not provide retail SKU names, final specifications, benchmarks, prices, or manufacturing-node details. There is no announced commitment that Intel will manufacture NVIDIA’s existing GPU product lines.
