Nufront was a Beijing-based fabless chip company that built ARM processors for tablets and other devices. In 2012, it was trying to become more than an application-processor supplier: its “new frontier” included cellular baseband, wireless technology, and an Android HDMI stick. Those products and plans are historical; the available account does not establish what happened to the company or its technologies afterward.
What was Nufront?
EE Times described Nufront Co. as a Beijing-based fabless semiconductor company founded in 2004. It was familiar to China’s Android community but little known in the United States, and competed with local application-processor makers such as RockChip and AllWinner. “Fabless” means Nufront designed chips but relied on a foundry to manufacture them.
The company’s first PC chip used a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU running at up to 2 GHz. It was aimed at ultra-thin laptops, all-in-one desktops, netbooks, and tablets. Nufront drew attention at CES 2011 with an ARM-based all-in-one PC. EE Times’ November 6, 2012 slideshow provides the contemporaneous account of these products and ambitions.
What was the NS115 processor?
The NS115 was Nufront’s third-generation application processor, which the company was mass-producing in 2012. It combined a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU running at up to 1.5 GHz with a Mali400 multi-core 2D/3D graphics processor. The chip supported 1080p video decoding and 720p video encoding, and was manufactured by TSMC using a 40 nm process.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
Nufront claimed power consumption of about 400 mW at 1.5 GHz. That figure was the company’s claim as reported by EE Times, not an independent measurement. The chip was positioned against low-cost single-core Cortex-A8 processors from makers including Amlogic, RockChip, ViMicro, and AllWinner, which the article put at roughly $10–$11 per unit in the 2011–2012 market context.
The article framed the opportunity against a tablet market of roughly 14 million units in 2011 and estimated at least 40 million units globally in 2012. Those are historical figures cited in 2012, not current market statistics. The NS115’s dual-core design and media features were part of Nufront’s pitch in a market where less expensive single-core chips were common.

What did Nufront mean by a “new frontier”?
Nufront sought to reduce its dependence on application processors for tablets and smartphones by pursuing cellular baseband, wireless networking, IoT modules, and consumer streaming hardware. This was a broad expansion strategy, not evidence that every planned product reached the market.
Cellular baseband and WCDMA intellectual property
The company’s roadmap included the TeLink 7619 GSM/WCDMA 3G baseband and ambitions in LTE. Nufront also said it had acquired essential WCDMA intellectual property from InterDigital in the second quarter of 2012 for $9.0 million. InterDigital confirmed agreements that included the transfer of some patents and other elements, but did not specify exactly which patents or assets were transferred. The reported payment and the limited public description do not establish the precise scope or later use of the IP.

EUHT, UHT, and NUHT wireless plans
Nufront was involved in EUHT, described in the 2012 account as a Chinese national wireless-technology effort backed by government funding. Commercialization had not yet occurred at the time of that report, though Nufront targeted vertical-market deployment in China in 2013. Rock Yang, the company’s vice president of marketing, claimed EUHT throughput of “1.2Gbit per second.” That was a company statement, not an independently established benchmark or proof of later deployment.
Nufront also described proprietary UHT and NUHT technologies as supporting reliable, real-time short-distance communication. The source does not provide independent performance measurements, so those capabilities should be understood as Nufront’s claims rather than verified results.

Scale behind the expansion
Nufront reported about 700 employees in 2012, including 400 engineers: 200 in software, 150 in hardware systems, and 50 in chipset engineering. These are company-reported historical staffing figures, not a current headcount.

Yes. Nufront pursued an Android HDMI stick designed to bring online video to an ordinary television, and the device used the NS115 processor. Rock Yang described the proposition this way: “At less than $50, you can turn your TV into a smart TV.” This was a 2012 price claim, not a current price or indication that the stick remains available.

What happened to Nufront?
The November 6, 2012 EE Times article documents Nufront’s products, reported staffing, agreements, and roadmap at that time. It does not establish the company’s 2026 corporate status, ownership, current products, or whether NS115, TeLink 7619, EUHT, NUHT, or the ACHO C905 remained available or progressed beyond the plans described. Without a more recent, reliable source, those outcomes are unresolved.
