Which Infineon chip did Nokia select?
It was Infineon’s E-GOLDvoice system-on-chip, selected for use in selected future entry-level GSM handsets. Infineon’s February 7, 2007 announcement described it as a supplier addition for Nokia’s voice-centric phones, not as a complete handset or a claim that every entry-level Nokia phone would use Infineon silicon.
Contemporaneous EE Times reporting likewise described the selection as applying to some of Nokia’s entry-level GSM phones. Infineon did not specify which additional components Nokia would use in the products.
What did E-GOLDvoice integrate?
The package measured 8 mm × 8 mm and brought several core phone functions together:

Infineon positioned the solution for voice-focused GSM devices that could also offer a color display, text messaging, MP3-quality ringtones, integrated hands-free and a Speaking Clock feature. The integration describes the chip’s functions; it does not mean it replaced every component needed to build a handset.
Which Nokia phone models used the chip?
The announcement and contemporary coverage do not name specific Nokia models. They establish a selection for some future entry-level GSM phones, but do not show which models shipped with E-GOLDvoice or whether a particular retail handset incorporated it. Naming a model would therefore go beyond the available reporting.

How did Infineon fit Nokia’s chipset strategy?
Nokia’s 2007 Form 20-F described a multisourcing arrangement in which supplier roles varied by product tier: Texas Instruments had broad coverage, Infineon served the entry level, Broadcom the mid-range, and STMicroelectronics the high-end. Nokia’s 2007 Form 20-F, filed March 20, 2008, also estimated that devices priced below €50 represented more than 35% of 2007 industry volumes and that Nokia held more than 50% of that segment. Those market shares are Nokia’s estimates in its filing.
Nokia later said it discontinued its own chipset development in 2007 and expanded its use of commercially available chipsets. Its 2008 Form 20-F, published in 2009, listed Infineon alongside Qualcomm, Broadcom, ST-Ericsson and Texas Instruments. The filing history places E-GOLDvoice within a broader, changing vendor strategy—not an exclusive Nokia-Infineon relationship.

What do the low-cost handset figures mean?
EE Times reported that Strategy Analytics forecast ultra-low-cost handset unit volumes would rise from 19 million in 2006 to 48 million in 2007. Those figures were a forecast reported at the time, not verified totals for actual 2007 shipments, and they refer to the market category rather than confirmed sales of E-GOLDvoice-equipped Nokia phones.

Infineon announced the XMM 6181 Android smartphone platform in 2010. That was a separate product announcement, not the chip Nokia selected for entry-level GSM phones in 2007; the two should not be treated as the same platform.
