The best Nintendo Switch setup for a precision platformer such as We Are Eva is a calibrated controller, digital run-direction input, vibration disabled when it disrupts timing, and (when docked) a Pro Controller connected by USB with Pro Controller Wired Communication enabled. Switch itself has no system-wide analog deadzone or sensitivity slider, so calibration recenters a stick but cannot create a software deadzone. Use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for the most stable layout, or a calibrated Joy-Con pair when portability matters. The Switch edition of We Are Eva is scheduled for 4 November 2026 at $4.99; its own deadzone, rumble and gyro options had not been published as of 29 October 2026.

Does Nintendo Switch have deadzone or stick-sensitivity settings?
No. Nintendo Switch does not expose a system-level analog deadzone, sensitivity or response-curve slider. The menu can recalibrate the stick’s center point, but it cannot tell games to ignore the first percentage of travel. Only individual games that implement their own controls can provide such a slider, and no such option had been documented for the Switch version of We Are Eva before launch.
An inner deadzone ignores movement near the stick’s center; increasing it can hide drift, while decreasing it makes tiny movements register. An outer deadzone defines when the game treats the stick as fully deflected. A response curve changes how quickly input scales after the deadzone. Those controls are common on some other platforms, but they are not available globally on Switch.

That limitation changes the order of operations: correct the hardware’s center, choose a digital control for cardinal movement where possible, then use the game’s own options if a future update adds them. Do not apply a supposed “5% Switch deadzone” recipe; the console has nowhere to enter it.

Which controller is best for a precision platformer?
The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is the strongest general recommendation for docked We Are Eva sessions. It offers a full-size conventional layout, larger analog modules, USB-C play, motion controls, HD rumble and built-in amiibo functionality. A calibrated pair of Joy-Con remains practical in handheld mode, but its smaller sticks and shorter battery life leave less margin for error.
| Characteristic | Switch Pro Controller | Joy-Con pair |
|---|---|---|
| Analog hardware | Larger modules and a more ergonomic full-size shell; still subject to wear | Smaller modules and a higher practical risk of drift in heavily used units |
| Directional precision | Dedicated digital directional pad plus left analog stick | Digital directional buttons on the left unit plus a left analog stick |
| Triggers | Analog ZL/ZR triggers | Digital shoulder buttons |
| Battery | About 40 hours, according to hardwaretest.org’s published figure | About 20 hours, according to hardwaretest.org’s published figure |
| Wired play | USB-C cable with a Switch setting for wired communication | No equivalent wired-communication mode for the pair |
| Rumble | HD rumble | Rumble supported |
A single Joy-Con held sideways is a poor precision configuration: it has fewer buttons, a rotated layout and only one small analog module. Use both Joy-Con in the grip, use them attached in handheld mode, or move to a Pro Controller.
How do I calibrate Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controller sticks?
Calibrate every stick before changing your layout. Nintendo’s calibration changes the interpreted center point; it does not repair a worn potentiometer or add a deadzone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Install the latest available Switch system update.
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Scroll to Controllers and Sensors, then choose Calibrate Control Sticks.
- Select the stick you want to check. Fully tilt it in one direction for several seconds and follow the on-screen prompts around the edge.
- Repeat for the other stick. Calibrate the left and right Joy-Con separately; calibrate both sticks on a Pro Controller.
- When finished, release the stick and observe the center indicator. If the new calibration does not appear immediately, put the console to sleep and wake it, or press the controller’s SYNC button once and then another button to reconnect it.
Nintendo Support’s procedure requires the full-tilt hold so the console can learn the stick’s range. Do not rest your thumb on the stick during the center check.
How can I tell whether a stick is drifting?
Calibration is followed by a rest test. In Nintendo’s calibration screen, click the suspect stick, rotate it through a complete circle and then leave it untouched. A moving crosshair at rest, failure to reach the edge, or an incomplete 360-degree movement indicates a hardware problem rather than a game setting.
Gamepad Tester UK reports healthy analog sticks resting within approximately ±0.020; consistent values above ±0.050 indicate drift. A tester configured to a 0% deadzone can make the same fault visible as a dot that walks while the controller is untouched. These are diagnostic reference values, not a Switch adjustment you can enter.

How do I fix Joy-Con drift before playing?
Use the least invasive remedy first and retest after each change.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall- Recalibrate. Follow the Control Sticks path above. This is Nintendo’s first-line action for an incorrect center.
- Clear loose debris. With the controller powered off, use short bursts of canned compressed air around the stick skirt. Keep the can upright and avoid flooding the mechanism.
- Consider contact cleaner only with caution. Nintendo Life’s Pro Controller guide describes access to the internals but warns that opening the shell is a disassembly procedure. Use electronics contact cleaner only if you accept that risk and can reassemble the controller correctly.
- Request repair. hardwaretest.org reports that Nintendo has offered free Joy-Con repairs in most regions, including many out-of-warranty cases. Pro Controller service can be chargeable; check the support terms for your region.
Do not treat a deadzone as a repair. gpadtesterpro.com notes that increasing one masks unwanted input while leaving the worn part unchanged, and Switch generally gives you no system-level mask to apply anyway. Nintendo Life also notes that Pro Controller analog sticks are soldered, so a stick transplant is not a simple reader-level replacement.
Should I use the D-pad or analog stick for a 2D platformer?
Start with the Pro Controller’s D-pad, or the left Joy-Con’s digital directional buttons, for run direction. Digital input gives a clean left, right or neutral state and cannot drift at rest. Keep the analog stick available if you prefer its feel or if a particular section benefits from gradual input.
Gear Geeks Gaming describes a stick as a rate control: deflection tells the game how quickly to move, rather than selecting an absolute position. A tiny nonzero rest value is therefore a movement command. Because Switch cannot shrink the inner deadzone globally, a drifting analog stick is especially disruptive in a game built around short ledges and exact takeoffs.
The PC control descriptions for We Are Eva use digital keyboard actions for movement, jump and wall-grab, which supports a digital-first approach on Switch. Purple dimensions invert left and right, so verify your directional habit after entering that world.
How do I enable Pro Controller Wired Communication?
When the Switch is docked, connect the Pro Controller by USB-C and enable its wired mode:

- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Choose Controllers and Sensors.
- Turn on Pro Controller Wired Communication.
- Connect the controller to the dock with a USB cable, then launch the game.
xboxplay.games identifies this as the Switch-side latency setting for a wired Pro Controller. Gear Geeks Gaming measured the original Pro Controller at 66 Hz over Bluetooth and 74 Hz over cable on a PC; those figures explain why cable is the sensible precision path, but they are not Nintendo Switch polling specifications.
Wireless remains perfectly usable when you need to play away from the dock. The wired setting matters most when a late jump or mid-air dimension switch is consistently landing on the wrong side of your timing window.
How should I remap buttons for We Are Eva?
Save a dedicated platformer layout so jump and dimension-switch stay reachable while your thumb holds a direction. Nintendo’s system mapping supports Joy-Con (L), Joy-Con (R), the Pro Controller and the built-in controls on Switch Lite.
- Open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Change Button Mapping.
- Select the controller and choose Change beside the button or stick you want to edit.
- Keep left/right on the D-pad or left stick, according to your preference.
- Put jump on the bottom face button (Nintendo’s B position) if your thumb can hit it reliably without releasing direction. Otherwise assign jump to a shoulder button you can hold while steering.
- Put dimension-switch on a shoulder or on the face button not used for jump. FinalBoss describes switching dimensions in mid-air while also jumping and grabbing ledges, so those actions should not require a thumb relocation.
- Avoid assigning a frequently mashed action to a stick click if you tend to over-click; repeated clicks add wear and can aggravate a marginal stick.
- Save the arrangement as a platformer preset. Switch provides slots 1 through 5 for each supported controller type.
POWER, volume, HOME and SYNC cannot be remapped. A Joy-Con pair’s A/B/X/Y mapping applies when the pair is held as a dual-controller grip. Presets are stored on the console, not in the controller, so the layout will not follow the pad to another Switch.
System remapping is global. If another game suddenly has an unexpected jump or menu input, return to Change Button Mapping and check whether the platformer preset is still active before changing that game’s settings.
Should vibration be on or off?
Turn vibration off while learning difficult jumps if the pulses distract your thumb or mask a short timing cue. Turn it back on for exploratory or story-focused sessions. The Pro Controller’s HD rumble is optional flavour unless the Switch port eventually uses it as a gameplay signal; that behaviour was not documented before release.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors and use the controller-vibration setting. This is separate from stick calibration and button mapping, so changing it does not alter input timing.
Do I need to calibrate motion controls?
Motion calibration is general Switch maintenance, not a documented We Are Eva mechanic. The PC versions and reviews describe stick, keyboard and designated-button actions, not gyro aiming.
- Open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Calibrate Motion Controls.
- Hold − or + on the controller you want to calibrate.
- Remove straps and place the controller stick-up on a flat, stable surface.
- Wait at least five seconds. Nintendo says there is no notification when calibration starts or finishes.
Detach a Joy-Con from the console before calibrating its motion sensors. If the Switch port later adds a gyro option, repeat this process with the controller resting on a stable surface.

We Are Eva is a 2D precision platformer from Ukrainian studio Totally Normal Creature, originally released in 2023. Alchemy Games announced the Switch version for 4 November 2026 at $4.99 on the Nintendo eShop. Official Switch feature copy lists more than 100 dynamic levels and nine worlds; a 2023 PC review by FinalBoss counted 116 levels, including five tutorials, and estimated two to six hours depending on playstyle.
Eva’s core actions are move, jump and double-jump, wall-grab, and a dedicated dimension-switch button. The worlds alter the feel and rules:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Green: the basic double-jump and wall-grab setting.
- Purple: left and right are inverted.
- Yellow: surfaces are slippery.
- Blue: movement is floaty or underwater-like.
- Red: visibility is limited.
- Light green: the environment is toxic and time-limited.
Levels rearrange after death, so a missed input can change the next attempt rather than simply repeating a fixed sequence. GameGrin called the mechanics a charming precision platformer, while FinalBoss compared the required double-jumps, ledge grabs and mid-air dimension changes with the tight demands associated with Celeste and Super Meat Boy.

The exact Switch face-button map, in-game deadzone menu, rumble behaviour and gyro support were still unpublished six days before the announced launch. Open the pause menu after installation and keep the system-level setup above as your baseline rather than assuming the PC keyboard map (C for jump, Z for wall-grab) carries over unchanged.
What if the Switch port adds a deadzone slider?
Use the smallest inner-deadzone value that produces no movement while the particular stick is untouched. Two controllers of the same model can have different rest noise, so tune the actual unit rather than copying a number from another player.
General analog guidance from gpadtesterpro.com and other controller references puts a clean competitive starting point around 5–8 percent, with 3–5 percent possible on a very clean stick. Defaults around 15–20 percent discard a large part of the travel. Those figures are platform-independent guidance, not a value published by the developers of We Are Eva.

What is the fastest troubleshooting checklist?
- Update the Switch system and controller firmware from System Settings > Controllers and Sensors.
- Calibrate each stick and confirm the center indicator stays still.
- Use the D-pad or digital directional buttons for run direction while diagnosing analog input.
- For docked play, enable Pro Controller Wired Communication and connect USB-C.
- Turn vibration off if rumble is masking jump timing.
- Check that the intended platformer remapping preset is active.
- Use compressed air for loose debris; do not assume recalibration repaired worn hardware.
- Seek Nintendo service if rest movement persists, especially when a stick fails the full-range test.
- After the game launches, inspect its pause-menu controls for any port-specific deadzone, sensitivity, rumble or gyro options.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my button-mapping preset travel with my Pro Controller to another Switch?
No. Nintendo stores mapping presets on the console rather than on the controller. Recreate or select the layout on the second Switch before playing.
Can calibration permanently fix a drifting Joy-Con?
It can correct a misidentified center, but it cannot restore a worn potentiometer. If the stick still moves at rest after calibration, cleaning or repair is the durable route.
Is a third-party controller suitable for this kind of platformer?
A compatible third-party pad can work for ordinary button input, but motion-calibration problems are generally referred back to that controller’s manufacturer. Verify its Switch compatibility and directional layout before relying on it for precision play.
