The Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, and Nintendo Switch Lite share many accessories, but they are not interchangeable in every situation. The OLED model is slightly larger, Switch Lite cannot output video to a television or use a Nintendo dock, and some wired accessories require a licensed stand or adapter. Match every purchase to the exact console model and connection method you plan to use.
This guide explains which cases, screen protectors, docks, chargers, controllers, stands, and network adapters work with each system, including the restrictions that matter before you buy.
At-a-glance compatibility
Use this table as a first filter. “Compatible” can still mean wireless-only on Switch Lite or dependent on a particular dock, stand, cable, or licensed accessory.

Which Switch model do you have?
Compatibility starts with identifying the hardware, not with the word “Switch” in an accessory listing. The original Nintendo Switch has a 6.2-inch screen and is 9.4 inches long. The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model has a 7.0-inch screen and is 9.5 inches long. Switch Lite is a separate handheld design with its own fit and connection limitations.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Original Nintendo Switch
The original model supports handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. It can use a Nintendo dock, detachable Joy-Con, a Pro Controller, the Switch AC adapter, carrying cases designed for that body, and compatible USB accessories connected through its dock.
Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
The OLED model also supports all three play modes, but its larger screen and slightly greater system length affect physical accessories. Nintendo cautions that some game experiences can differ and that the console may not fit cleanly inside every Nintendo Labo Toy-Con designed around the original dimensions.
Nintendo Switch Lite
Lite is handheld-focused. It supports handheld play and can be used in tabletop play when placed in a separate stand, but it does not support TV mode and is not compatible with a Nintendo Switch dock. Its integrated controls also mean Joy-Con cannot slide onto the sides of the console.

Why a generic “Switch” case can be risky
Carrying cases are model-sensitive because the console dimensions, screen opening, control layout, and internal molded compartments must line up. The OLED model is 9.5 inches long compared with 9.4 inches for the original Switch, and its display is 7.0 inches rather than 6.2 inches. That small difference can prevent a tight original-model shell or fitted insert from closing properly.

For a case, look for an explicit label such as “Nintendo Switch OLED,” “original Nintendo Switch,” or “Nintendo Switch Lite.” A listing that only says “Switch” does not establish that the internal fit is correct. Check whether the case is designed for the console alone or also includes room for Joy-Con, game cards, a power adapter, or a dock; those compartments vary even when the outer shell looks similar.
Screen-protector fit
Nintendo specifically warns that screen protectors made for the original Switch or Switch Lite may not fit the OLED model correctly. The OLED display is larger, so a protector can leave gaps, overlap the bezel, or fail to align with the glass. Buy protection labeled for the exact model rather than trimming a smaller protector or relying on a universal “Switch” description.
Checking a case before use
- Confirm the console name in the product title and specifications.
- Compare the listed screen and body compatibility with your model.
- Place the console in the empty case before adding accessories; the zipper or clasp should close without pressure.
- Check that analog sticks, shoulder buttons, vents, and charging access are not compressed or blocked.
- If the case includes a screen flap, verify that it does not press directly against the display when closed.
Docks and TV play
Original Switch and OLED
Both the original Switch and OLED model can enter TV mode through a Nintendo dock. Insert the console into a compatible dock, connect the dock to a television and power source according to Nintendo’s setup instructions, and select the television’s corresponding input. The dock is the part that routes video to the TV; a carrying case or tabletop stand cannot provide that function.

Switch Lite does not support TV mode and cannot be used with any Nintendo Switch dock. A dock-shaped accessory may physically hold the console, but it cannot add video output that the Lite hardware does not provide. If television play is a requirement, choose an original Switch or OLED model rather than trying to solve the limitation with another dock.

Tabletop play without a dock
The original Switch and OLED model have built-in support for tabletop play. Lite can also be used on a table, but it needs a separate stand because the console itself is not designed to stand independently in the same way. Nintendo names HORI’s Dual USB PlayStand as a licensed option for Lite tabletop use and wired accessory connections.
Wired networking and LAN adapters
OLED dock with built-in LAN
The OLED dock with LAN is model HEG-007. Its integrated LAN port provides a wired internet connection, so a separate USB LAN adapter is unnecessary when the console is connected through that dock.
Docks without a LAN port
A Nintendo dock that lacks a built-in LAN port requires a USB LAN adapter for wired internet. The adapter connects to the dock’s USB port, while the Ethernet cable runs from the adapter to the network equipment. Confirm that the adapter is intended for Nintendo Switch before buying; a generic USB network device is not automatically supported.
Networking on Lite
Lite can use a USB LAN adapter only through a licensed accessory that exposes the required connection. The console itself has no dock connection that turns it into a TV-mode system, so a network adapter does not change its display or docking limitations.

Chargers and power accessories
One Switch AC adapter family
Nintendo lists the Switch AC adapter as compatible with the OLED model, original Switch, and Lite. When replacing one, verify that the listing is intended for Nintendo Switch and provides the correct USB-C output. A plug that merely fits a USB-C socket is not enough evidence of safe or complete Switch compatibility; power specifications and console use case matter.
Charging Joy-Con
Joy-Con charge through a compatible Nintendo Switch console or a Joy-Con Charging Grip. Because Lite has no side rails for attaching Joy-Con, Lite owners must charge detached Joy-Con with a compatible console or charging grip. A case, tabletop stand, or ordinary USB cable does not replace the required charging hardware.
Charging Pro Controller
A Pro Controller can be charged through compatible USB ports on a dock or directly with the Switch AC adapter, following Nintendo’s setup guidance. On Lite, wireless play is usually the least complicated arrangement: charge the controller separately, pair it with the console, and use a stand if you want tabletop play.

Power-purchase checklist
- Look for a Switch-specific AC adapter listing and USB-C output information.
- Do not assume every USB-C phone charger provides the configuration Nintendo expects.
- For Joy-Con, plan a charging console or Joy-Con Charging Grip.
- For Pro Controller, confirm whether your setup will use a dock USB port or the AC adapter directly.
Controllers on each model
Joy-Con
Joy-Con works with all three systems, but the physical connection differs. On the original Switch and OLED model, Joy-Con can attach to the console’s side rails or operate wirelessly. On Lite, Joy-Con work wirelessly or through a licensed wired accessory; they cannot attach directly to the handheld.

Pro Controller
Pro Controller is compatible with the original Switch, OLED model, and Lite. It is suitable for docked or tabletop play on the larger systems and for wireless handheld play on Lite. A wired Lite arrangement requires a licensed accessory that provides the necessary USB connection.
Legacy controllers
Nintendo’s compatibility information also lists several legacy controllers—including NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis, and GameCube controllers—as usable with Lite under the connection conditions in Nintendo’s compatibility table. Check the required adapter, wireless pairing method, or licensed accessory for the specific controller before ordering; compatibility is not identical across every legacy device.
How to choose accessories by use case
You own an OLED model
- Choose an OLED-labeled case and screen protector.
- Use a Nintendo dock for TV mode; select the HEG-007 dock when you want built-in wired LAN.
- Use the Switch AC adapter, Joy-Con, and Pro Controller listed for Switch systems.
- Check accessory clearance around the larger screen and the 9.5-inch body.
You own the original Switch
- Select a case and protector labeled for the original Switch rather than OLED or Lite.
- Use a Nintendo dock for TV mode and add a USB LAN adapter if that dock has no LAN port.
- Joy-Con can attach to the console or work wirelessly; Pro Controller works wirelessly or by a supported wired connection.
- Use the Switch AC adapter specified for the system.
You own Switch Lite
- Skip Nintendo docks and TV-output accessories; Lite cannot use them.
- Choose a Lite-specific case and screen protector.
- Buy a separate stand for tabletop play, such as a licensed Dual USB PlayStand option.
- Plan on wireless Joy-Con or Pro Controller use unless a licensed wired accessory is part of the setup.
- For wired internet, use a licensed accessory that can host a USB LAN adapter.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
- Buying an original-Switch protector for OLED: replace it with an OLED-labeled protector so the larger screen is covered correctly.
- Expecting a dock to add TV output to Lite: return the dock and use Lite as a handheld or tabletop system with a stand.
- Assuming a Lite can charge attached Joy-Con: use a Joy-Con Charging Grip or another compatible console for charging.
- Ordering a wired controller setup without a stand: choose a licensed stand that exposes the required USB connection for tabletop use.
- Adding a LAN adapter to an OLED LAN dock: connect Ethernet directly to the dock’s built-in LAN port instead.
- Trusting a listing that only says “Switch compatible”: verify the exact model, mode, connector, and whether the accessory is wireless, wired, or licensed.
Pre-purchase checklist
Before paying, record your console model and answer these questions:
- Is the item labeled for OLED, original Switch, or Lite?
- Does the accessory require TV mode, a dock, side rails, or a USB port?
- Will you use it handheld, tabletop, docked, wireless, or wired?
- If it is a charger, does the listing identify Switch-specific USB-C output?
- If it is a case or protector, does it account for the OLED model’s 7.0-inch screen and 9.5-inch length?
- If it is networking equipment, does your dock already have LAN, or do you need a USB LAN adapter?
- If it is for Lite, is a licensed stand or wired accessory required?
Matching the accessory to the console model and the intended connection method prevents most compatibility failures. The OLED model’s size affects fitted protection, the original Switch and OLED model are the systems intended for docked TV play, and Lite requires wireless or licensed solutions for accessories that would otherwise attach or connect directly.
