Bethesda’s Creations is the more direct option if you want to browse and install from inside Fallout 4, and it is the relevant route for console players. The right choice depends first on your platform, then on how you prefer to find and manage mods.
How Nexus Mods and Bethesda Creations differ
Nexus Mods is a third-party catalog with a dedicated Fallout 4 page for browsing mods and collections. Bethesda Creations is Bethesda’s service, accessible through Fallout 4’s in-game interface and Bethesda.net. Bethesda’s guide to finding and downloading a Fallout 4 mod describes both ways to discover Creations.

They are not interchangeable catalogs. The available sources do not establish that the same individual mods appear in both places, so search each service for the specific mod you want rather than assuming it will be available on both.

PC: Nexus for discovery and a managed setup
Nexus’s dedicated Fallout 4 catalog provides a focused place to search listings and collections. If you want a separate tool to organize what you install, Nexus’s Vortex feature page describes integration with the site, mod profiles, load-order sorting, and conflict-management tools. These features can make a larger setup easier to manage, but they do not guarantee that mods are compatible with one another or with your game version.

Nexus promotes one-click automated collections as a Premium feature. That is an optional service claim from Nexus, not a requirement for browsing or using the platform.
Console: Bethesda Creations
Bethesda’s purchase guidance lists Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition for Xbox and PlayStation consoles as well as PC, while its support instructions describe using Creations in Fallout 4. For a console player, that in-game route is the practical choice supported by these platform materials; do not assume a Nexus listing can be installed on a console.

How to find and install a mod with each service
Using Nexus Mods on PC
- Open the Nexus Fallout 4 catalog and browse or search for the mod you want.
- Read the mod’s description for its supported game version, dependencies, installation instructions, and load-order guidance.
- If you use Vortex, connect it with Nexus Mods and use its profiles or management tools as appropriate. Nexus describes the available features on its Vortex page.
- After installation, check for conflicts and follow the mod author’s compatibility and load-order instructions. A manager can help organize a setup; it cannot establish compatibility that the mod author has not documented.
Using Bethesda Creations
- Browse Creations from Fallout 4’s in-game interface or add a Creation to your library through Bethesda.net, as outlined in Bethesda’s discovery guide.
- Download the Creation through the game. Bethesda’s installation instructions advise reading its description for load-order requirements.
- When the Creation requires a particular order, arrange it in Fallout 4’s Creations menu according to its instructions.
- If you are on Xbox and need to link accounts, follow Bethesda’s Xbox account-linking guide.
Check compatibility before installing
A mod’s presence in a catalog does not prove that it works with your edition, current game version, other mods, or platform. Before installing, check the individual listing or Creation description for:

- Installation instructions and any required load order.
- Known conflicts or update notes.
Compatibility deserves extra attention because Fallout 4 has continued to receive changes. Bethesda’s patch notes include updates dated May 27 and August 18, 2026, covering Creations and platform-specific behavior. Those notes record changes including console Creation storage and the BA2 archive limit; they are not a single universal storage or compatibility rule for every platform and version. Check the notes and the mod’s own guidance for the game version you are using.

- Choose Nexus Mods if you play on PC and want a broad dedicated catalog plus optional third-party organization through Vortex.
- Choose Bethesda Creations if you want to discover and download through Fallout 4 itself, or need the console-supported route described by Bethesda.
- Check both catalogs if you are looking for one particular mod; their complete overlap has not been established.
Whichever route you choose, confirm the mod’s platform, game version, dependencies, and load-order requirements before installing. Bethesda also notes that user experience may vary and downloads are at the user’s risk.
