No. As of reports published October 2, 2026, Brooklyn Nets rookie guard Mikel Brown Jr. had resumed limited on-court movement after an ankle injury, but had not been cleared for contact. The team had not announced a return date, and his preseason availability remained uncertain.
What Brown is cleared to do—and what he is not
Brown had returned to light court work focused on movement and rebuilding strength. That does not mean he had resumed full practice, contact drills or game activity. NetsDaily reported that he rolled his left ankle while working out before training camp; the available reports do not give a more specific clinical diagnosis.
Brown described his progress this way: “I mean, I am back on the court moving. That’s all I’m really worried about right now. Is Mikel Brown cleared for contact?
No. On October 2, CBS Sports reported, citing New York Post reporter Brian Lewis, that Brown had not been cleared to practice with contact. NBA.com’s same-day update also described limited court activity rather than full participation. When will Brown return, and will he play in the preseason?
No exact return date or confirmed preseason decision had been reported as of October 2. Brown said the performance staff would determine whether he could play in the preseason: “I mean, that’s up to the performance staff. I’m just doing what I can to get back on the court as of right now.” That leaves preseason availability unresolved; it does not establish that he will miss those games.
The reported information does not include a medical prognosis or a timetable. A new Nets update is needed for a current answer because injury and availability reports can change.

Why Brown’s status matters to Nets fans
Brooklyn selected Brown sixth overall in the 2026 NBA Draft after his lone season at Louisville. The Nets’ draft announcement lists him as averaging 18.2 points, 4.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 29.2 minutes per game across 21 games (19 starts) in the 2025–26 season. It also credits him with 45 points against NC State on February 9, 2026, a performance the Nets said broke the ACC freshman single-game scoring record and tied Louisville’s program record for points and three-pointers made in a game.
