Netflix has discontinued its Basic plan, which was its cheapest ad-free option. If you still have Basic, the plan choices and timing available to you depend on your country and how you pay. In the US, Netflix currently lists Standard with ads for $8.99 a month, Standard for $19.99, and Premium for $26.99. Check the plans shown in your own Netflix account before deciding; those prices are US listings, not global rates.
What happened to Netflix Basic?
Netflix’s Help Center says, “The Basic plan has been discontinued.” Basic is no longer listed among the plans available to new subscribers in the current Help Center. Netflix began phasing out existing Basic access market by market, rather than switching every subscriber worldwide at once.

In July 2024, reports described existing subscribers in the UK and Canada being moved toward a choice between an ad-supported plan and a more expensive ad-free plan. Those reports document earlier stages of the change; they do not establish a universal deadline or tell you exactly what offer is available to your account now. Netflix’s Help Center plan information and your account are the relevant places to check current options.
What are Netflix’s current plans?
Netflix’s US Help Center listing, checked October 4, 2026, shows the following monthly prices and features. They apply to the US listing only; prices and package eligibility can differ by country and billing partner.

How to choose if Basic is no longer an option
Choose Standard with ads if keeping the bill lower matters most
In the US listing, Standard with ads costs $11 less per month than Standard. It keeps 1080p resolution, two simultaneous devices, and downloads on two devices, but includes advertising. Netflix says some films and shows are unavailable on this plan because of licensing restrictions; affected titles show a lock icon. Ads-supported does not mean every title in the catalogue is playable.

Choose Standard if you want ad-free viewing at 1080p
Standard is the ad-free 1080p option in the US listing. It allows two devices to watch at once and downloads on two devices. Whether the higher monthly price is worthwhile depends on how much you value uninterrupted viewing compared with the ad-supported plan.
Choose Premium for 4K/HDR or more simultaneous devices
Premium is the only plan in this US comparison listed with 4K UHD plus HDR. It supports four devices watching at once and downloads on six devices. Those added capabilities may not matter if your screens do not support 4K/HDR or you do not need the extra device capacity.

Check the offer for your country and billing method
Netflix plan names, prices, features, and eligibility can vary by region. The displayed offer may also depend on whether you subscribe directly or receive Netflix through a mobile, internet, or other billing partner. The price in a news report from another country—or an older report about the phaseout—is not a reliable guide to your own renewal.
- Sign in to Netflix and open your account’s membership or plan settings to see the options offered to you. Netflix may show different choices from its general plan page if your billing arrangement is through a partner.
- Confirm whether your subscription is billed directly by Netflix or by a third party. If a partner bills you, check that provider’s package terms and instructions as well.
- Compare the local monthly price, ads, resolution, simultaneous streams, downloads, and title availability before changing plans.
- Check device compatibility if you are considering an ads plan. Netflix’s UK plan page notes that some older devices may not support Standard with adverts; compatibility depends on the device and market.
Netflix’s UK page describes Standard with adverts as Full HD with two devices watching at once, and notes a few short ads per hour. Its displayed price can change, so use the country selector and your account for current local terms: Netflix UK plans.

Where Netflix’s ad-supported plan is available
Netflix Investor Relations lists ads plans in 12 markets as of 2026: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, the UK, and the US. Netflix says it plans to launch in 15 more markets in 2027: Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand. Netflix launched Basic with Ads in the US in November 2022 at $6.99 a month. At launch, Netflix said the plan would average four to five minutes of ads per hour, exclude a limited number of titles because of licensing, and not support downloads. Those were launch-era terms, not a description of today’s plans. Netflix’s announcement is available at Netflix’s 2022 Basic with Ads announcement.

For the same reason, 2024 coverage of Basic phaseouts and the prices then offered should be treated as historical. Use Netflix’s current country-specific plan information and the offer in your account to decide what to do now.
