Jio Platforms began trading on the NSE and BSE on 28 October 2026 at Rs 1,358 a share, compared with its Rs 1,119 IPO price. That made the opening premium 21.3% to 21.36%, depending on rounding, and valued the company at about Rs 12.5 lakh crore. The debut followed a Rs 30,213 crore fresh issue that drew demand worth more than Rs 7.4 lakh crore and nearly 1.39 crore applications, according to reports from The Indian Express, The Daily Pioneer, Free Press Journal and Forbes. Jio’s stock moved above its opening price during the first session, but the cited reports do not establish a final closing price.

A debut premium is measured against the IPO price, not against the day’s eventual close. Because Jio shares traded above the opening level during the first session, the opening gain and any closing-day performance should be treated as separate measures.

How much demand did the Jio IPO attract?
The issue was heavily oversubscribed across investor categories. The Daily Pioneer reported bids equal to 22.19 times the shares offered, more than Rs 7.4 lakh crore in total demand and almost 1.39 crore applications. Forbes described demand as about Rs 7.5 trillion from roughly 13 million Indian nationals.

Institutional and non-institutional subscription
The Indian Express reported about 71 times subscription in the qualified institutional buyer (QIB) category and about 14 times in the non-institutional category. Free Press Journal gave a slightly different QIB figure of 70.55 times and also reported approximately 14 times for non-institutional investors. Those differences reflect reporting and rounding rather than a different issue.
How quickly was it subscribed?
Reports put the time to full subscription at between 95 and 100 minutes. Free Press Journal said 95 minutes, while The Daily Pioneer said 100 minutes. The offer also raised Rs 8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors, according to The Daily Pioneer.
Why is this listing important for Reliance and India’s telecom market?
Jio Platforms is the 12th Reliance Industries group company to list, according to an NSE statement reported by The Daily Pioneer. At the debut valuation, it briefly became India’s second-most valuable listed company, behind Reliance Industries and ahead of Bharti Airtel by market capitalisation.
The event is therefore more than a large telecom flotation. It is a major Reliance-group milestone and a public-market test of whether investors value Jio as a broader digital platform rather than only as a mobile operator. The IPO was a fresh issue: proceeds go to Jio Platforms, with The Indian Express reporting that Rs 27.5 crore was intended for debt repayment at subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm and the balance for general corporate purposes.

What did Akash Ambani say at the Jio listing?
At the NSE ceremony, Jio Platforms managing director Akash Ambani said: “My heart overflows with gratitude. Gratitude to every individual, every institutional investor in India and abroad, who made our IPO a blockbuster success.”
He framed the next decade as an expansion beyond connectivity: “In our first 10 years, we democratised data, bringing hundreds of millions into digital life. In our next 10 (years), we want to democratise every technology that can transform Indian lives: AI, cloud, connected devices, connectivity even from space, and digital services not yet imagined.”
The Daily Pioneer said Ambani also pointed to artificial intelligence, cloud computing and 6G, supported by Jio’s own 5G core and cloud-native radio network. These are strategic ambitions, not guaranteed financial outcomes or committed spending totals.

Forbes also reported FY2026 revenue of 1.5 trillion rupees and net profit of 300 billion rupees. Those are source-reported figures for the financial year and should not be read as a forecast for later periods. Forbes said Jio plans major data-centre and AI investment, while The Daily Pioneer highlighted the company’s network and cloud capabilities.
Where is the remaining connectivity opportunity?
The Daily Pioneer reported that about 26 crore Indians still use 2G services. It also said fixed broadband reaches roughly 21% of Indian households. Moving customers to faster mobile services and adding home-broadband connections could expand data usage and digital-service adoption, but conversion requires network investment, affordable devices and continued customer spending.

Could India’s remaining 2G users become a growth driver for Jio?
They represent a large potential upgrade pool, but conversion is not automatic. Jio would need affordable smartphones, suitable plans, network capacity and sustained demand from users who may be highly price-sensitive.
