OBS and Muvi Live are not direct substitutes. OBS is an encoder you run on a computer; Muvi Live is a managed streaming platform that can receive an OBS feed and provide its own distribution options. If you need YouTube scenes, sources, and encoder control, OBS is the more direct fit. If you need Muvi’s platform features—such as an HLS link, player, or website/app embed—Muvi may be relevant, but its public materials reviewed here do not establish that a Muvi setup guarantees continuous 24/7 streaming to YouTube.
What each product does
OBS: the encoder
An encoder converts audio and video into a format suitable for a live stream. YouTube documents encoder-based streaming for screen sharing, external audio/video hardware, and more advanced productions. OBS supplies the production and encoding side: you configure sources and scenes, connect it to a streaming destination, and start the encoder.
Muvi Live: a managed streaming platform
Muvi Live is a platform rather than just an encoder. Its documented workflow can use OBS as the encoder: create a live stream in Muvi, start its server, copy the server URL and stream key, enter those in OBS using a custom service, and start streaming. Muvi also advertises YouTube integration and social simulcasting, as well as HLS and embed outputs. Those vendor-described capabilities do not by themselves establish end-to-end 24/7 reliability to YouTube.

For a YouTube-only production that needs OBS’s scene and encoder controls, Muvi adds a platform layer whose value depends on whether you also need its distribution capabilities. If you do, confirm with Muvi how its current YouTube workflow handles a continuous stream and recovery after a dropped connection before relying on it unattended.

How to connect OBS to Muvi Live
- Create a live stream in the Muvi dashboard. Start the stream’s server and retrieve the stream URL and stream key shown for that event.
- Configure OBS as a custom encoder destination. In OBS, open the stream settings, choose a custom service, and enter Muvi’s server URL and stream key. Use the values from the Muvi event rather than a YouTube stream key.
- Set the output for the available connection. YouTube recommends choosing a stream quality that the connection can sustain and recommends RTMPS. Confirm the destination’s required protocol and settings in its current instructions; do not assume a YouTube-specific endpoint or key can be substituted for Muvi’s.
- Start the encoder and verify the destination. Start streaming from OBS and check the Muvi event output. If your intended destination is YouTube, verify that the stream appears correctly in YouTube’s live workflow as well; the published Muvi material reviewed here does not specify every step for an always-on YouTube configuration.
Settings, equipment, and operational limits
Choose settings for stability, not just maximum quality
YouTube’s encoder guidance says that in Live Control Room, the encoder needs the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. Its guidance also recommends RTMPS and a quality level reliable for the available connection. The reviewed material does not establish one universal bitrate, resolution, or frame rate for every source and connection, so use YouTube’s current recommendations for your stream’s chosen format and test that your connection can sustain it before leaving a broadcast unattended.
Account for the source hardware
OBS requires a computer with sufficient processing capacity for the streaming software and a high-speed, stable internet connection. Audio and video inputs depend on what you are producing. A capture card is only relevant if you need to bring video from a DSLR or camcorder into the computer; it is not a general requirement for every OBS stream.

Do not treat compatibility as a continuity guarantee
YouTube encoder support and Muvi’s advertised YouTube integration establish that these tools can be part of a streaming workflow; they do not prove uninterrupted operation. The reviewed product materials do not state an end-to-end uptime figure or recovery behavior for this 24/7 YouTube configuration. Before committing a channel to it, ask Muvi about continuous-stream limits and what happens if the encoder, server, or YouTube connection drops. Plan monitoring and a recovery procedure rather than assuming the broadcast will resume automatically.

Muvi’s pricing page listed these figures when accessed on October 3, 2026. They are vendor-published prices, are subject to change, and should be checked again before purchase. The page’s displayed promotion expired September 10, 2026.

Muvi also lists included bandwidth and streaming-hour allocations by plan. Work out expected server-active hours and bandwidth against the current plan terms rather than comparing only monthly subscription prices. The listed concurrent-user capacities—up to 10,000 for Standard and up to 50,000 for Professional—are Muvi’s product-page claims, not independent measurements.
