The biggest difference is where the hunt happens. Monster Hunter Outlanders is announced as an exploration-led mobile adventure set in a broader game world; Monster Hunter Now turns your real-world surroundings into the hunting ground. Outlanders was still upcoming on October 3, 2026, with Capcom listing an October 29 release date, so its final gameplay and launch experience had not yet been verified.

How the games build a hunt differently
Outlanders: a separate world to explore
Capcom describes Outlanders as a mobile adventure that combines field exploration and monster hunts with companions from different regions. Its September 2025 trailer also promotes a “vast and immersive world” and describes the game as an exploration action RPG. Those phrases communicate the intended direction; they do not establish the final map, mission structure or shipped features.
The announcement names TiMi Studio Group, a Tencent Games subsidiary, as developer and says the controls are optimized for mobile. It does not establish whether players will need to move physically through real locations to play, or what the final session structure will be.
Now: the player’s surroundings are part of the game
Monster Hunter Now connects play to real-world locations. Its official overview describes outdoor exploration, quests, material gathering at real-world points, equipment crafting and upgrades, and nearby multiplayer. Paintballs let players mark monsters to hunt later, giving them a way to defer an encounter rather than fight it immediately. Official overview

#1 Best Overall
- Colossal roster - Take on the series' largest roster of monsters to date including all-new monsters, Deviant variants, and the mysterious new Elder Dragon Valstrax.
- Co-op multiplayer - join up and hunt online with up to three other hunters, or meet-up and play together via local play.
- Play anywhere! - with Nintendo Switch, for the first time gamers have the flexibility to either play online with friends on a TV in tabletop mode or play on-the-go in handheld mode.
- New level of challenge - “g” rank is introduced to test experienced hunters' battle tactics. Formidable versions of familiar foes enter the fields with different moves and abilities never before.
- Highly customizable gameplay - Expanding on the four Styles and supermoves called Hunter Arts introduced in Generations, two Styles are introduced for even further refined personalization options
At launch, the Now team emphasized one-handed play and hunts lasting 75 seconds, alongside group hunts, an AR camera mode, loadouts and Paintballs. The 75-second figure describes the launch design, not a guarantee that every activity in the evolving game takes that long. Launch announcement
Session style and social play
Now has the clearer fit if you want hunting tied to walks, commutes or short outdoor breaks: its launch materials explicitly describe using a walking route or commute as a hunting ground, and its current overview continues to center real-world exploration. Group hunts with nearby players are also documented.

- Includes pre-coloured Azure Rathalos and Black Diablos miniatures that visually match their legendary variants, enhancing immersion and table presence.
- Designed to pair seamlessly with existing Monster Hunter World quests and cards, allowing hunters to experience encounters with accurate monster representation.
- Features large, highly detailed PVC figures that command attention during hunts, painting projects, or display collections.
- Ideal for collectors, hobbyists, and experienced players seeking elevated aesthetics without replacing existing gameplay components.
- Enhances cinematic impact and thematic authenticity during battles against two of the most iconic Monster Hunter adversaries.
Outlanders is the more natural match if the appeal is exploring a broader game world and traveling with companions. However, companions should not be read as proof of co-op multiplayer: Capcom’s pre-launch announcement does not spell out the final social rules. Nor is there verified information yet about how long an Outlanders session takes or whether its exploration is paced like Now’s short hunts.
Monster Hunter Now has changed since launch
Now is a live game, so its launch description is not a complete picture of everything added later. In a September 2025 Season 7 announcement, the team discussed weapon-style customization, cooperative local exploration bases, choosing groups of monsters, seasonal monsters and changes to weapon-material requirements. These are dated examples of how the game evolved; they should not be treated as a guarantee that every detail remains unchanged in October 2026. Season 7 announcement

Availability, pricing and what can be compared fairly
Capcom announced Outlanders for iOS and Android on October 29, 2026, and described it as free-to-play with in-app purchases. A mainland China version is scheduled from 2027 onward. Because the game had not launched as of October 3, 2026, these are announced plans rather than confirmation of availability or the final live product. Capcom announcement
Now is already released globally, but the cited official overview does not provide a current, directly comparable monetization breakdown. The available evidence therefore does not support a detailed price or spending comparison between the two games.
