The Modern Warfare 4 launch patch is the October 21, 2026 baseline for the worldwide release on October 23. It combines a broad weapon, movement, spawn, interface and audio pass with hundreds of bug fixes across Multiplayer, DMZ and Campaign. The notes also document specific DMZ progression failures, crashes, AI behavior, objectives and Nintendo Switch 2 issues.

Activision’s notes page is a living document. The October 25 update contains additional fixes and balance changes, so it is separated below rather than being presented as part of the original launch list.

What shipped with Modern Warfare 4 at launch?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on October 23, 2026. The launch package includes a new Campaign, 20 Multiplayer maps and the Hajin-based DMZ extraction mode.

Launch map and mode inventory

  • Core 6v6: Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm and Transit 213.
  • Ground War 32v32: Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium and Forest.
  • Gunfight 2v2: Cafe, Library, NYC and Smuggler.
  • Kill Block: a dynamic map supporting 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight at launch. Six-versus-six support and additional configurations were planned for post-launch.
  • Returning modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Free-for-All, Frontline, Search & Destroy, Gunfight and Gun Game.
  • New modes: Inflation, Hijack, Collateral and Combat Outpost. Infected and Possession were announced for the following week.

How did the launch patch change weapons and progression?

Infinity Ward’s stated goal was to make weapon selection a choice rather than a requirement. The launch build makes submachine guns more effective at close-to-mid range, while flinch and damage tuning temper powerful one-hit-kill weapons. Every weapon received a broader balance pass rather than a single isolated buff or nerf.

Weapon systems

  • Advanced Weapon Stats were added so players can inspect more detailed performance information.
  • Attachments were tuned for flexibility and balance.
  • Shared attachments remain useful: after an attachment is unlocked, it is available on every compatible weapon.
  • Weapon Prestige returns. Prestiging a weapon locks its attachments and returns it to a classic level-unlock path, while shared attachments stay available on other compatible weapons.

Perks and movement

  • Perks were reorganized into three categories.
  • Battle Hardened more effectively counters Flash, Concussion and Screamer Mine effects.
  • Resupply recharges sooner.
  • Blood Rush makes Tactical Sprint trigger by default when the sprint key is pressed. Tactical Sprint is no longer a universal default ability; it is tied to Blood Rush.
  • First-person and third-person movement mismatches were corrected, and movement transitions were adjusted.

What changed to spawns, Killstreaks, equipment and the interface?

Spawn logic was revised around player separation, squad spawning and more predictable Hardpoint behavior. The launch build also introduces a Smart Streak Meter that rewards objective actions, so Killstreak progress is not limited to eliminations.

  • UAV health increased from 100 to 150.
  • Wheelson pathing and target-selection logic were reworked.
  • Flash and Concussion range and duration were slightly reduced.
  • Optic Rail Placement changes the sight picture cosmetically, while thermal optics receive custom reticle effects.
  • Pre-game countdowns were reduced or removed, and map pre-loading begins earlier.
  • Splash blur was reduced.
  • Gunny tutorials were repositioned and made less intrusive.
  • Gunsmith Weapon Builds now save manually when leaving Gunsmith, but edits made during a match save automatically.

What audio changes are in the launch build?

The launch notes include a large audio cleanup rather than only weapon sound adjustments.

  • Destruction audio was added.
  • Mounted-turret audio was restored.
  • Underwater Heartbeat Sensor muting was prevented.
  • Text-message cues were added.
  • Assault Drone and Bomb Glider audio dropouts were fixed.
  • Chopper Gunner and Gunship mixes were adjusted.
  • Nuke audio was improved and dropout problems were fixed.

Which Multiplayer bugs did the launch patch fix?

The Multiplayer fixes cover stability, map presentation, Killstreak state and match-recording problems.

Did the launch patch fix DMZ progression and stability problems?

Yes, the October 20 and October 21 entries address a substantial set of DMZ progression, objective, AI, crash and interface failures. They do not eliminate every post-launch issue: the separate tracker still lists DMZ Operator Prestige failures.

  • Fixed first-match After-Action Reports showing 0 XP.

  • Fixed rock-stuck areas in Hajin.
  • Fixed Active Duty Operator Showcase equipping failures.
  • Fixed a 3D Printer Untrack Recipe kick when no recipes were tracked.
  • Fixed soft locks caused by selling starting equipment or dismissing an Active Duty Operator with starting equipment before first deployment.

DMZ fixes addressed October 21

  • Fixed an error opening the Dog Tag Case.
  • Fixed Toxic Intercept incorrectly failing after Defend the Bomb.
  • Fixed PC performance problems while holding a Heartbeat Sensor with a weapon equipped.
  • Fixed AI running over players during NK Wilderness infiltration.
  • Fixed Dynamic Operations text-sizing errors at larger menu-text settings.
  • Fixed low-resolution Orders rewards in the End Game Report.
  • Fixed unintended Breaking New Ground voice lines.

What Campaign and weapon bugs were fixed?

  • The Firing Range no longer incorrectly displays a 0.00 TTK for the Rezi 12 Shotgun.
  • Melee and Launcher weapons now receive weapon-level icons.
  • The Hotel sequence in the Campaign mission Counter Attack no longer blocks progression.

Infinity Ward summarized the launch cleanup as “Several hundred bugs. Killed dead,” but the detailed entries above are the specific fixes identified in the launch notes.

What changed from the beta?

The launch notes do not provide a complete beta-to-release changelog, so they cannot support a definitive list of every difference. They do document the release tuning that players will feel immediately: the revised SMG and one-hit-kill balance, reorganized perks, Tactical Sprint’s Blood Rush requirement, corrected perspective movement, new Advanced Weapon Stats, revised spawns and the Smart Streak Meter.

That distinction matters because a feature appearing in the launch notes is not automatically a beta change; some systems may have been introduced after the beta or changed during development without a public beta comparison entry.

What did the October 25 post-launch update add?

The October 25 entry is a follow-up update on the living notes page, not part of the October 21 launch baseline.

General and interface fixes

  • Fixed weapon-stat displays for locked attachments.
  • Fixed Prestige loadout clearing.
  • Fixed Optic Rail Placement visuals.
  • Fixed fast-scrolling Resource Management descriptions.
  • Fixed weapon-class labels.
  • Fixed DMZ Lieutenant Intel display.

Multiplayer changes

  • Rolled back a bomb-stretching fix after it caused a pickup regression.
  • Raised Search & Destroy and Collateral XP for one kill from 100 to 300.
  • Fixed Collateral bomb disappearance.
  • Fixed first-match freezing while editing a loadout.
  • Fixed missing Frontline and Hijack introductions.

The update fixed the Hospital Elevator objective, Colossus Drill Charge, Sedan behavior, Crashed Drone AI, minimap issues, Blueprint pricing, Overflow Stash problems and additional Breaking New Ground issues. It also closed several DMZ exploits.

What known issues remained after launch?

Activision’s October 23 tracker still listed four significant issues:

  • Multiplayer loadout saves could fail for some players.
  • Combat Record and Leaderboard statistics were being tracked but not displayed.
  • Some Xbox players using PC could encounter a Call of Duty Home launch-button problem.
  • DMZ Operator Prestige could fail. Activision reported that some players succeeded by equipping Rare weapons with only three attachment slots, but this was described as a workaround observed for some players, not a universal fix.

Is Modern Warfare 4 included with Game Pass?

No. Modern Warfare 4 is a standalone release that must be purchased separately and was not included with Game Pass at launch. Check the platform, edition and physical-versus-digital format before buying, because availability and included content can differ by storefront.

How should you read these patch notes?

  1. Use the October 21 entries as the launch-patch baseline for the October 23 worldwide release.
  2. Check the October 25 section separately when diagnosing a newer build, especially for DMZ objectives, loadout editing or mode introductions.
  3. If a listed issue persists, compare it with the remaining-issues tracker before assuming the patch failed to install.
  4. For progression problems, record the mission, operator, platform and point at which the failure occurred; the notes distinguish between mission credit, XP, objectives, Prestige and interface failures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the October 25 changes part of the launch patch?

No. They are later entries on the same living notes page. Treat October 21 as the launch baseline and use the October 25 items to interpret behavior after that follow-up update.

Did the patch fix all DMZ progression problems?

It fixed many mission-credit, objective, XP, crash and soft-lock failures, but DMZ Operator Prestige was still listed as an active issue in Activision’s October 23 tracker. Mission completion and Operator Prestige therefore should not be treated as the same bug category.

Why can a statistic be missing even after the match records correctly?

The launch tracker separates data collection from display: Combat Record and Leaderboard values were reportedly being tracked even when the interface did not show them. That means a missing statistic was not necessarily evidence that the match result was lost.

Can I use the launch notes to prove a beta feature was removed?

Not by themselves. The published notes describe the release build and its fixes, but they do not provide a complete beta comparison. A claim that something was removed requires a separate, version-specific beta statement.
